Shapes as a cold yet exciting day at Joondalup on Saturday, with all 3 grades being played at the one oval again.

If you're making the trip to Arena Joondalup on Saturday, remember that the Freeway will be closed between Ocean Reef Road and Hodges Drive, so simply get off at Ocean Reef Road and then on to Joondalup Drive (I think?). Just a heads up from the WAFL web page.

League - Falcons v Swans. This should be a ripper as I think there was only 2 goals max between these teams in all 4 contests this year, including the pre-season match. The Falcons, with plenty of experience, are up against the youthful and exuberant Swans side, without their captain. Once again I reckon the LeCras, Campbell, Longmuir forward line will be the critical factor in the game. I don't think Swans can choke the midfield supply like Subi, so these guys will get a bit of the ball. McKinlay does a great job each week, but we need another tall back there to do a good job. This is why I expect Naita to head down back at the first bounce again. Campbell normally kills Swans every time he plays, so lets hope he can be stifled. Swans will also need to put pressure on Lasscock, Pearce and Chambers in the midfield. Last time Smith did a great lock down job on Chambers so should get the job again (not bad for a kid I didn't want in the team last week:o). Roberts and Pearce will probably go head to head but Roberts will need to be tighter this week.
Swans have wingers with super pace and tenacity, who were amongst Swans best last time these 2 teams played, in Wolfenden and Garlett. I wouldn't be surprised to see Garlett recalled this week. Add to them the Bloodnut dynamo, Banfield, and you've got a fairly tough, aggressive and quick midfield. Geappen will need to come prepared to play, as he will be required to provide big support to the 17 and 18yo spearheads in Yarran and Notte. M Johnson plays his heart out every week but he is not going to kick 5 goals in a half again, so others are going to have to step up.
Will Ames be back this week? Would be very handy but Swans can't afford him to last 10 mins like the last time we were at Joondalup.
Swans were last in a prelim final in about 2005 I think, and it may be a similar tale for West Perth.

Should be an absolute belter! Carn the black ducks!!:thumbsu::thumbsu:

According to PerthNow there is one change per team:

West Perth – In: Burns. Out: Keunen.
Swan Districts – In: Wolfenden. Out: Lange

However, Seaby is supposedly in a little doubt with a shoulder so Keunen may still play, if he's not injured. Their tip is WP by 6 points.

Anyone got any stats on Naita? Hows his game going?

Campbell kicked 5 in a quarter on him.

Looks better in the ruck, but he will be a huge risk whoever picks him up, these last two weeks have raised serious questions for mine.

Just doesnt seem to be able to think his way through the game.

Just got home, still pumped. What a great game.

Was a bit odd having to invade the ground twice though :o

The buzz around the huddle and within the player group was amazing at 3 quarter time. The Swans supporters really got around the boys and pumped them up. My missus on the hill said it was a strange sight seeing the Swans huddle twice the size of West Perth's and hearing the noise from the other side of the oval.

Chrsco, who was in the #4 jumper? Looks like it was a jumper switch from the blood rule. I think a lot of the comeback stemmed from his work in the third.

Naita had an absolute shocker. Was terrible. However, didn't some of Campbell's goals come on Geappen? Im sure it was a peroxide boy

I thought I was excited last week, but hey, this is a new week now!

I've been waiting 18 years for the black ducks to get into another grand final and now that day has arrived. At half time my 8yo had tears flowing down his face, was calling all umpires and West Perth players stupid so and so's and generally not in great demeanour. Had to take him behind the stands and console him and tell him not to worry, there's always next year, just enjoy the game for what it is. Then they work some miraculous come back and cause some anxiety and chest pains.

Commiserations to West Perth, who turned out a superbly manicured playing surface and a good amount of patronage too, and played a hell of a game.

Go you Black Ducks!!!!

Sorry, forgot to add congratulations to Swans Colts and Claremont Reserves for winning their Prelim Finals as well and getting to the GF.

What a game! The umpires tried their hardest to rob us today and I'm sure they invented about three new rules today. Loved the fact that we got under Cambells skin going into half time and I'm not sure he did too much after that.

Twice in the third quarter we kicked a goal only for Joondalup to reply straight away and I remember thinking these guys seem to have our measure today but after that we didn't look like losing. Great to see all the families down there and in our little shelter it felt like a home game.

Tried to call dad after the game as he went through the Swans system and we were both choked up and couldn't speak. Just means so much after all of those dark, dark years as a Black Duck supporter

Please, did you not watch the second half?

I notice you don't refer to the first half, which was bewildering, at best.

I'll give you the Callum Chambers out of bounds deliberately, even we Swans supporters couldn't believe that, but the umpiring was reasonable in the second half.

Why would I need to refer to the first half? I wasn't complaining about the umpiring overall. But what about the 50m penalties that left the commentators bewildered, the Notte no call on the holding the ball when he just dropped it after evading tackles?

I don't think it's the reason we lost, but the umpiring was evened up in your favour in the second half after a poor first half.

I loved a call from someone in the crowd when Nicnat gave away a free kick for push in the marking contest

"his left hands in the air, his right hands in the air... has he got three f#cken arms umpire"

OK, but I bet there were as many bewildering decisions (I say again Naita's mark on Campbell) that went WP's way, certainly in the first half.

Which commentator was confused about the 50m? The only confusion the commentators had, that I saw on TV. was that Spaanders got the kick when the holding the ball decision was, or should have been, awarded to Banfield. The WP player kicked the ball away, no argument that's 50. B LeCras puts his arm around Geappen after a mark and knocks him over (albeit softly) and the ball loose, thats 50 everyday of the week.

Were you somewhere near the Tom James Stand? I heard that from a bloke at the front of the "stand", or shed, as I like to call it.
