1st Place: Graham Johncock
Johncock had a career year in 2009 where he was equally renowned for his dash out of defence, and his dogged determination and hardness against his direct opponent. As a player whose career was at the cross roads for a period in 2008 Stiffy has been able to sensationally rebound and was adjudged by many to be unlucky to miss out on All Australian selection. Should continue to be a wonderful Crows player for a number of years.
2nd Place: Michael Doughty
No longer the Youngster, but perhaps now Benjamin Button. The longer Doughty's career goes the better he seems to get. In a year where he was promoted to the leadership group Doughty was without his long time partner Robert Shirley for a number of weeks but was able to continually strongly and hardly perform as a tagger and small defender. Crows fans will remember with fondness Doughty gaining more possessions going head to head with renowned eye gouger Chris Judd.
=3rd Place: Brad Symes
In 2009 Crows fans realised why Port had allowed Symes to leave. He didn't fit in. Symes became a synonym for hardness at the ball and at the man and he won many admirers for his at times kamikaze attacks on the football while it was in dispute. While not having the natural talent or polish of many other of the young midfielders, few would ever suggest dropping a player this hard.
=3rd Place: Ivan Maric
Ivan has a fairly won reputation amongst BF posters of wearing his heart on his sleeve and bleeding red, navy and yellow. Despite missing much of the early portion of the season Ivan was able to return strongly and for much of the second half of the season doing a Lion Share's of the work equal to that of his lion heart. While like Symes Ivan has some natural limitations as to the extent he can take his game his effort and heart seem to have won most posters over.
