Personally i would love to see Mclean take over but i think Bruce will be a care taker for one more year.

I think Green should be captain. He sets more of an example than Bruce, and is a better speaker. He also has courage in his game, which is quite inspirational in itself.

Winning the B&F can't hurt Bruce, but I don't think his actual leadership capabilities are as high as those of other squad members.

Green, controversially left out of the club's leadership group in a player vote at the start of the season, clearly doesn't need to win over the coaching group.

They presented him with the club's leadership award.

After that, there appears to only be 2 options to me. The guy who is stalling contract talks because he wants the club to follow the model they have previously which has seriously burned them or the guy who poors his heart into the club, plays injured and dips into his own pocket to help get the club back on track.

I remember after the Eagles game, when i was going into the rooms after the game, i got in the lift with Brock, and as soon as he got off the lift, he wouldn't have been out of place at the Olympics against Usain Bolt. Thats how quickly he wanted to be down with the boys and stuff. You could see that he didn't want to miss a moment. Crutches and all.

Green's no shot now, I never wanted him to get it myself but he had played himself into contention. As it stands, he's pissed that 22 rounds of work away in the space of three days to the point where I think most of us wouldn't be disappointed to see him leave.

Anyone else have this sinking feeling that if Green stays they'll have promised him the captaincy? It's seem like the only other card they have in the deck, hopefully Bails has more sense then that

He's just about the last person i want as captain now, but i can see this happening

give it too jimmy mcdonald ffs, he is the heart and soul of the melbourne footy club, i know he is low profile but he seems like one of the most loyal blokes going around. Even if he has it for only a year, this would let brock focus on plaing consistent footy for a year and hopefully not getting injured.
If greeny gets it after this trade talk and him wanting to leave the club that has given him a home for 9 years i may rip up my membership ticket before the year even begins.

Mcdonald for mine just isn't vocal enough/ not really an on field leader.
Het get's his own ball sure, and he's a tough nut, but you never really see him get involved in a piece of play which is courageous or 'game defining'.
Green doesn't deserve it now, however he does fill those needs which Mcdonald does not.
Wouldn't be happy with Green or Bruce, Mcdonald would be alright, however I'm thinking I'll go with Robertson/Miller as Smokies, they have been in the leadership Group, both have the ability to be 'game defining', both are on field leaders and you'd think that they'd both be vocal.

yer, the only reason i would give it to mcdonald would be to reward him and let him finish his career off at the MFC on a high and this would give brock time to be ready for the job, your right though about the onfield leadership, but from an emotion point of you and to get the boys up for a big game i think there is no one better at the mfc than junior. I know i would love to play under someone with the courage, determanation and loyalty of junior mcdonald.

Looks like Green has crossed his name of the list. McDonald is too old now. Maybe the McDonald of 2006-07, but McDonald in 2009 will probably be in his last season. I don't think Bruce is a great leader.

Which leaves us with just one candidate, but he is the best man for the job and I would absolutely love to see it.

You can't have Jones in there, not after the year he's just had. Started well, form dipped, got dropped, finished 18th in the B&F. He's only 20 years old, and needs to just concentrate on his footy.
