Who would be interested in picking up Holt?

If he wants out of the Rams when his contract expires, they may as well cut him now anyway. But what teams would be interested in a 32 year old WR on $6+ million?

His production has been falling away, would he be able to keep it up enough to justify that price tag?

I'd certainly be interested in Holt and if he were to become a Patriot, would that make the Pats receiving corps the best in the league? I'm very much intrigued and would be happy if we did pick him up this off season

I honestly don't think it would make the offense any better. Sort of like bringing Roy Williams into Dallas... Another option doesn't = better, despite how good the player may be.

Moss is a huge threat, and that in turn frees up Welker (With a decent QB). It may make you slightly better, in terms of a better player on the other side, but it won't make it the best in the league (Fitz/Boldin/Breaston/Urban)

Is two receivers enough to make the offence good. Welker and Moss are good as a pair, but last season the next best was Jabar Gaffney and he dropped enough balls to lose us a few games. I think a veteran receiver with sure hands which is what Holt is would make the offence look more like the 07 offence (and the re-emergence of Brady would be useful too). Moss and Welker are the 1 and 2 receivers, Holt is a better 3 than anything we currently have so I think it would definitely make the Pats offence better.

The 07 O had 100% to do with Moss, and people were on him from week 2. Holt wouldn't cahnge a thing. Brady knows Moss' bread and butter... He is nothing phenomenal, he is just agood pair with Moss. Its why Brady had only thrown 27 TDs a year max before Moss came. Holt won't change a thing.

It would be interesting is all I said :p Considering the list of FAs and players we want to play and hang around (Manning, Jacobs, Ward, Butler, possibly Toomer if he doesn't retire) I dunno if we will have enough. We had 12 mil at the start of this past season...

Cardinals off-season needs

Outside Linebacker: Assuming that the Cardinal defense will switch to a 3-4, Chike Okeafor is the closest thing to a true OLB on the current roster. He would presumably be one starter but the next closest option would be Travis LaBoy, who rarely took his hand off the ground this season. Whether or not he can handle that transition is a complete unknown. Even if LaBoy can handle the transition, he's shown very little ability to stay healthy this past season and there is zero depth behind these two.
Cornerback: We've already broken down this position so we know that DRC and Rod Hood are the only two corners under contract for 2009. While they may be solid starters, that still leaves at least three spots to fill. Ralph Brown will likely return and Michael Adams will get a chance to compete but it's very likely that they'll add at least two corners to the roster between now and camp.
Safety Depth: After our break down of the safety position it was apparent that the secondary would be greatly improved if the depth at this position was improved. Adrian Wilson and Antrel Rolle seem to be solid starters but on passing downs, Wilson is often used like a linebacker. He's either blitzing or covering tights ends or underneath routes. That opens up the need for a third safety to help Rolle patrol down the field. Aaron Francisco is a decent player in some aspects but he can be exploited in coverage.

Offensive Line: I list the offensive line as a whole because I don't think there is a consensus on who the weak link is or even who is the best player. Some say Deuce Lutui is the worst, some point to Lyle Sendlein. Some want Levi Brown to move inside and a better tackle to take his place. Some say the same thing for Mike Gandy. In an effort to keep things simple, I offer up the idea of simply drafting or signing the best talent, regardless of position. They could accumulate talent, let them fight for starting spots in training camp and something tells me that the five best would prevail.

Running Back: Obviously when you've got the worst running game in the league, an upgrade at the position wouldn't be a terrible idea. The Cardinals currently have two running backs under contract, although Edgerrin James is expected to be cut, so they certainly have the opportunity to make some moves. It is possible that they could resign J.J. Arrington and bring back the exact same group of backs that they had in 2008, but it's apparent that an upgrade is needed.

Defensive End: Assuming the defense switches to a 3-4, the defensive ends under contract for 2009 would be Darnell Dockett, Calais Campbell, Kenny Iwebema and Bryan Robinson. Antonio Smith is an unrestricted free agent but some think that he'll get much better offers on the free agent market than the Cardinals are willing to offer.
Defensive Tackle: Again assuming the defense switches to a 3-4, the only nose tackle under contract right now is Alan Branch. Gabe Watson is a restricted free agent, so he'll be back for sure. With a full off season of training (please stay away from treadmills), Watson should return to full form. Bryan Robinson could also play in a pinch, but the depth is shallow unless Branch suddenly becomes an NFL player.
Inside Linebacker: This only becomes a need if Karlos Dansby signs elsewhere. If the Cardinals can lock him up, then they're probably set at linebacker but if he leaves Hayes is the only true middle backer with any experience. If they chose not to address the position, either Victor Hobson or Ali Highsmith would be a starter.

Pretty well agree, but would have RB at the top of the list.

The agent for Kurt Warner said he could start negotiations on a new contract with the Cardinals as early as this week.

"I want to talk to Kurt today or tomorrow," agent Mark Bartelstein told the Arizona Republic. "I think he wants to take a chance to take a deep breath. He really hasn't had a chance to do that."

Warner has not committed to returning and acknowledged retirement is a possibility. But he also said he hopes to play peacemaker in the teammate Anquan Boldin's contract dispute with the team.

If he returns, Warner should get a salary increase from the average of $5 million he's made in four seasons with the Cardinals.

But Bartelstein said don't expect Warner to offer the team a discount just because he's said he prefers to play in Arizona. (The buzz has been that a two-year deal worth $18-20 million could satisfy the quarterback.)

"I don't look at discounts," Bartelstein told the Republic. "Every deal has its own unique circumstances. I don't go into it with a preconceived notion. You find what the issues are with your client and for the team and try to agree on something that makes sense."

I think Kurts coming back, it may cost us a few $$$ but oh well.

Seems the Haynesworth to Tampa rumours are growing some legs....

Also.. Antonio Bryant will most likely stay.

Some also think that Anquan Boldin may land in Tampa. He is a FSU alum after all and we have plenty of cap room available. Just need to find someone to throw them the ball!

If these rumours came true that could make Tampa real good fast. Provided they can find someone to throw the ball.

He's going to cost a lot in a trade mate. The Cardinals are happy to have him sit if it somes to it.

What is everyone thinking about McNabb? Will he hang around? Will he be off? There seems a bit of disquiet in Philly about him, despite the turnaround this season.
Well depends on the options. I think McNabb is desperate to win a SB and his best shot might be in Philly even if everyone thinks he is a toss. I think he will stay considering how fluid things were rolling in the back half of last year.

Also depends on how good Kolb really is. Career back-up or ready to rumble??

We're in the NFC and we're NFC Champions, come on down Julius.
Its not the "big market" he's looking for so it wont happen, but geez he would be invaluable to the Cardinals. Probably the one thing we have been missing and have never really been able to get is a good pass rusher.

I still think theres someone out there that is worth a shot as much of a moron as he is, that guy is.....................

Not sure about Dallas getting him. i think we are in more in need of a NT. I think most people would prefer to move Ratlif out to DE instead and get a big fella taking up space a NT. Depends i guess on what our Admin see our DL being next year.

Some more Ray Lewis news...

It will be really interesting to see what eventuates out of this and where he goes next year.

http://wnst.net/wordpress/drewforres...zone-with-ray/

The Ravens aren’t looking to fight with Ray Lewis.
In fact, they’re looking to avoid a confrontation by doing the one thing that keeps the relationship copacetic: signing Ray to a new contract.

That’s the good news. Despite what’s transpired over the last three weeks, with Ray traipsing around the country trying to peddle his wares to a variety of possible-takers, the Ravens are still Pro-52. They want him back.
The bad news? Back in August, the Ravens offered Ray a deal that included a $12 million signing bonus. Ray turned them down. Fast forward to February, 2009. I’m hearing that the Ravens are still only willing to provide Ray with a $12 million signing bonus. Ozzie Newsome might have to bump the total deal up a few bucks after Ray’s monster-08-campaign, but the nuts and bolts of the contract remains the signing bonus and the Ravens aren’t likely to move off of their $12 million August figure.
For Ray, that’s bad news.

And, it could be bad news for Ravens fans who want to see Lewis finish in Baltimore.
When Baltimore offered $12 million (plus) last August, Lewis and his agent scoffed at the figure and tossed around a $20 million signing bonus as part of their wish list. Ray then played his rear-end off in ‘08 and proved he’s still one of the league’s best performers. Advantage 52? Maybe. Maybe not.
After all, you’re only worth what you can get.

An NFL executive told me last night, “if Baltimore sticks with that $12 million number and their total deal is somewhere in the $20-24 million range for four years, they could definitely lose him.”
What’s Ray’s value? Well, there’s no doubt he has more value to the Ravens FRANCHISE than he does with any other franchise in the league. But, there might be an argument that Ray’s value to a TEAM, just from an on-field standpoint, could be higher somewhere other than Baltimore.

And, even if 30 other teams agree with Newsome and believe that Ray Lewis is a player worthy of ONLY a $12 million signing bonus and no more, it only takes that one other team who believes Ray is worth $18 million up front to throw the Ravens into a difficult position.

When I asked the NFL exec what he thought Ray’s value is, right now, given the upcoming “cap free year” and everything else in question regarding the upcoming CBA negotiations, his quick response was: “no more than $6 million per-year…assuming the deal is for 4 years.” He then reminded me that his figure of “4 at 6″ might be the number Ray has to settle for in the event that no in the league goes any higher than that for a 34-year old linebacker. “I’m not sure we’d be willing to give him that, but there’s no doubt some team will look at him for leadership and put a value on that which could give him an extra lump of money.”

There’s one other element of the negotiations that could work out in Ray’s favor.
Pressure from players on other teams.
“When players start chatting with the coach, the GM and the owner and throw a free agent’s name around, that can be tough to ignore,” says the NFL executive. “If players in Dallas or San Francisco or Miami start campaigning for Ray and tell the team, ‘go get this guy and we’ll win’, the team is sometimes locked into a no-win situation. If they don’t go get him, the players wonder if the team really wants to win. If they do get him and he doesn’t work out, they’re strapped for a year or two and they can’t point to the players and say, ‘they told me to sign him’.”

The exec pointed to the Ravens signing of Deion Sanders back in 2004. “Even though he didn’t really cost them much money, Deion was a signing that came straight from the players. They convinced Ozzie he was a guy with leadership that could get them over the top. In the end, he was a bad signing.”
February 27 is d-day for the Ravens. Or, should we say, “Ray-Day”. If Lewis isn’t signed by then, he’s free to wander the country and search for a new employer.

Re: Some more Ray Lewis news...

The Jets have released TE Chris Baker to allow more cap room for a possible move. Don't know it'll be interesting, surely someone will offer more than what the Ravens will
