Since you asked...

If you have seen Pavlich this season the first thing you will notice is how much bulk he has lost. The conditioning staff down at Freo have done this with midfield time in mind, he was getting mid time last season but with his weight with that much running had an impact on his knee causing him to miss a game (never happens). So while I feel he will definantly get more midfield time your guess is as good as mine as to how much that is.

Regardless the guy is a freak and will score 90+ average in any position.

Congrats on the promotion 54Dogs,

So are you concerned that Pav's numbers will drop or do you just agree that he wont play much in the midfield?

Any freo supporters have any input? Dont Bowl There?

Not saying he'll score more or less, just that I don't think a role in the middle similar to Richo is sustainable because they simply have no other options up forward. he has certainly trimmed down though so the plan is in place, but who kicks the goals.

So if Pav plays solely is the forwards or if he is rotated in the mids he will score well regardless.

But that raises another issue....

Alot of teams will have Deledio and he many believe he is a must have but for his price, Richo could make be worth considering instead of Deledio....

Reasons...

If a Pav or Richo play forward they have proven to beat their opposition player and have high stats for marks and kicks, but if they are not finding the ball in the forwards, they have a licence to go to the mids but will not be easily tagged. Does that make sence?

Richo and Pav may be better than a Harvey or Deledio.

Thoughts?

Ok this is probably just the lions support in me but im seriously starting to consider

Bradd Dalziell?

Can you justify spending 400k on a guy who has only played 6-7 games? If you can, then good luck to you (you might end up needing it :)).

Anyone else thoroughly unimpressed by Daniel Rich? I'm not seeing a whole lot of DT potential from him at all. I am thinking it might be best to leave him out entirely. The only problem is I then need to find another rookie I have confidence will play every game, which is a lot harder than it sounds.

I'm having the same thoughts towards him also. Whilst i never thought that he'd come out and produce scores to the ilk of Palmer ala last season, i thought he'd score somewhere around 60, which i am looking for my 6th midfielder to score consistently.

Like yourself, i'm looking to start Rich on the field so his recent performances haven't instilled a lot of confidence in me. I might swap him directly for Hill, although will he play most games? Freo fans, any help?

Rich has shown very little DT potential so far which will disappoint a huge amount of coaches..

I guess the other way to look at it is he has only scored under 82 once in his 9 games to date. 2/2 DT tons this year (with shortened games, and more players rotating through) and the kid just is class even with his disposal. Do i have to stones to pick him myself? No, but I'm glad that some will because if you want to take a 'risk' this looks like a kid that you could do it on.

Someone said the same thing to me this morning, and i initially pondered the same thing. But then i put a bit of thought into it, the games are 10 mins shorter, and there are 26 players instead of 22 so less time. Then i though, oh i might compare Rich to Palmer cause i didn't by Palmer from the start last year either.

Nab Cup Scores
Rich 09: 42,39,
Palmer 08: 46,42,DNP,21

Pretty similar start.

Look at last years stats, and then translate to this season.

Top 5 goalkickers in 08:
Pav 67
Farmer 23
Tarrant 23
McPharlin 21
Bradley 12

So if you put Pav in the middle, Farmer has retired, Tarrant is apparently moving to CHB, McPharlin too valuable down back... we're left with Kepler Bradley. Pav will have to spend some time kicking goals... we don't have any other choice.

Dalziell would be a very unique selection..........and Rich hasn't set the DT world on fire that's for sure.

Scott Lucas...

I locked him in my team before the season began, however I am not sure that I should persist with him in my dream team. Lloyd and Lucas are guaranteed a game every week if not injured, but with Gumbleton and Neagle obtaining experience, I don't think he is the greatest of options. It is an extremely tough one. Lucas was more of a premium when he was playing at CHF, but now Lloyd and Gumbleton have taken this role which leaves him in the ff position along with Neagle. If Fevola kicked 99 goals and only averaged around 85, I can't see Lucas doing to well dt wise in the full forward position. But then again, he may produce enough money to upgrade him to a premium.

Then there is Skipworth. Is he a better option than Lucas? He is around 25K cheaper so that is a slight positive. With Welsh and Prismall out for a while, it may leave a spot for him in the midfield. He had two brilliant nab cup games thus far where he scored a whopping 99 and 92. For someone at 196K, he must be a lock. The only downside is that he must continue to play well or a kid will jump ahead of him. He has massive scoring potential and is listed as a forward but plays mainly through the midfield. He tackles, takes marks, goes in and under and kicks goals. The only major problem is that he may be dropped. But with Welsh and Prismall out, does this give enough time for Skippy to rise enough in price in order to be upgraded to a premium?

im getting dalziell. sure he has only played 6-7 games but he has easily out scored any other midfielder in the nab cup at his price range thus far.

He's in my team atm, i think he's a great unique pick. Although comes with alot of risk

For scott lucas i tend to agree i think he's not going to be scoring anything decent anytime soon. So i did opt for Skipworth, its hard to leave him alone after posting 2 90+ scores. I'd guess a ton of people would be screwed if he was dropped lol.

i also dont see him as value to start but thinking about it, you can have him and ablett or jackson and t tuck for example and him and ablett are gonna be better for the same price

it would be good if you could compare game time between rich and palmer however because palmer may have only played a half for those games as they eased him into the start of the season whereas - i might be mistaken - rich has played more game time than he most likely will in the regular season so it pretty much evens out the 10min shorter quarters.

does anyone know if they are going to be playing him for 18+games this season? has this even been said by voss? if it has then i think it is better to have him in because

  1. he is cheap and allows you to get a gun captain for example
  2. he is going to play every game until you get rid of him
  3. he will be a solid cash cow
  4. you expect 30-50 so he can surprise with some good scores
  5. nab cup form is possibly irrelevant with palmer scoring the same (pending tog)

Marc Murphy only got 46 in his first NAB game in 06. Surely the Lions with the worst kicking efficiency last year will be looking to get someone like Rich who has very good disposal into the team.

I haven't been too impressed with Rich either, but he will stay in my team because he is one of only a wee handful that should get a lot of early games.

Yes Dalziel has had a very impressive start to his DT career, but at his price no thanks, the bubble has to burst at sometime, and I don't want to be anywhere near it when it splatters.

Why does it have to?

McPhee played a shut down role on Mitch Clarke but managed to rebound well too. He may be back to his old position.

Yeah he looked good. If your talls can stay on the park (Gumby, Lloyd, Lucas and Neagle) he has no need to play up forward. Much better DT player when coming off the backline.

Nathan Krakouer? Tearing it up DT wise in the port geelong game. Should score well with better inside service this season, not sure he will hold his place.
It's either him or lucas for me. Krakouer will probably score more, but lucas will probably play more, but is injury prone and will probably move to low-scoring FF mode.
Your thoughts??
