That draw seems pretty "meh". I would much rather have this.

MCG was not the cats home venue for round 1 2008.

Has the Sydney Essendon game at Stadium Australia on Sunday before the opening weekend gained any legs at all?

Why does the opening game have to be Carlton Vs Richmond. Last years bottom 4 team playing a team who just traded there superstar full forward. Hardly watering at the mouth for that one.

Why are supporters of small clubs always jealous that the big clubs get big crowds no matter where they finish or who they trade.

Wow, looks like cracking Sunday :thumbsu:

I just hope that now with the better deals with the stadia (stadiums) that if any venue changes are required, Etihad won't be so cheesed off and they'll allow the AFL to do what they want for a change!

Definitely scheduling the Geelong v St Kilda Grand Final rematch at the MCG in the original fixture is the right thing to do. (it really shouldn't be called a "replay" coz that's more for a match after a drawn Grand Final).

I should point out that the Grand Final rematch in Round 1 tradition only started in 2007 after the epic 2006 Grand Final. After the other epic 2005 Grand Final, in Round 1 West Coast played St Kilda and Sydney played Essendon. From then on it has been this:

Grand Final 2006: Sydney def. by West Coast
Round 1 2007: Sydney v West Coast @ Telstra Stadium (now ANZ) (West Coast Won)

Grand Final 2007: Geelong def. Port Adelaide
Round 1 2008: Port Adelaide v Geelong @ AAMI Stadium

Grand Final 2008: Geelong def. by Hawthorn
Round 1 2009: Hawthorn v Geelong @ MCG

Sydney loses the '06 GF and plays a home match in Round 1 '07. Geelong wins the '07 GF, then loses the '08 GF, but plays an away match in Round 1 the following season both times! The AFL's been a bit stiff on the Cats. Hopefully come 2010 the Cats will have a Round 1 home match against the Saints at the MCG! *Will be praying from now until the release date*

...Who cares? It's not a disadvantage at all.

Does it really matter if you play an 'away' game V's St Kilda in round 1 at the MCG?

It's not as if you'll be playing them at Skilled anyway.

Was speaking to the Brisbane Lions membership department yesterday who told me that they will be getting the draw on October 14th.

Good news for Pies fans is we play Mel, Freo, Rich & Syd twice.

And on the back of that you get to make the finals and *wobble* yet again.

Pfft! You want the big one then play and beat the teams that have a hope of making the finals or get found out yet again next September.

Smacking around prep kids doesn't make you Mike Tyson.

There's no disadvantage to the Cats in the actual playing of the match. It's a disadvantage from a financial perspective. The big rematch would rake in huge bucks for the home team, while the away team gets nowhere near as much.

The AFL should make Brisbane vs Carlton first game of the 2010 season - from the GABBA - live in to Melbourne.

Ratings wise I reckon that would almost top the return game of Cousins.

The Carl/Bris game in Melbourne is going to be much more anticipated than the one at up the GABBA.
