Perth Glory could be moving to a samba beat in the new season as the club prepares to swoop on a Brazilian attacker. The West Australian understands Glory are poised to sign former Brazil youth international Andrezinho for the new A-League season, which kicks off for the WA side against Adelaide United at nib Stadium on October 9.

Glory will fly to South Africa on Sunday for a pre-season tour and have already confirmed New Zealand defender Steven Old will travel with the squad on a trial basis. If all goes to plan, Andrezinho, whose full name is Andre Luiz Rodrigues Lopes, will join the team on the tour, where Glory are scheduled to take on AmaZulu, Platinum Stars and Maritzburg United.

Interesting. Hopefully he will play for peanuts because I doubt we have much cap space left.

Rangers has revealed it hopes to sign Australia midfielder Matt McKay this week.
Manager Ally McCoist is eager to recruit the the 28-year-old Brisbane Roar captain and could do the deal this week with McKay in Britain for Australia's friendly against Wales.

A report on the club's website, www.rangers.co.uk, said the club "can reveal the 28-year-old midfield star is firmly in McCoist's sights and a deal could be done this week.

"McKay is in the UK as Australia have a friendly international with Wales on Wednesday night and Rangers would love to do a deal before the Europa League play-off deadline on Thursday."

The club added: "There are work permit issues but Rangers hope to overcome them and get McKay on board."

In a media release on Monday morning Brisbane Roar said it 'can confirm it has received an offer for club captain Matt McKay'.

Would be a massive blow for the Roar- but a nice boost for Matt McKay's career. Everyone loves hating on the SPL but this would give McKay a chance at Champions League football (the European kind ;))

This is where Pim really ****ed us over when refusing to pick A-league players for the socceroos.

It forced fringe players overseas and reduced the talent pool and thus the quality of the A-League. And the guys that went overseas weren't making the right moves for their careers.

The best shop window for the A-League guys that want to go somewhere decent overseas is international football.

McKay got the opportunity under Holger, took the step up, and it looks like has earned himself a good little deal pending the work permit.

To develop as a football nation we need the A-League to feed the national team.

Hopefully a guy like Vidosic who has done the rounds in europe can propel himself forward similarly now he is back in Aus and will be playing regularly. You can bet he would be in Romania or the second division in Turkey if Pim was still around.

Rangers are already out of the running to make the group stages of the Champions League brah. Europa Cup is still a step up for Matt.

Cheers brah. As an Evertonian my giveafukometer about European football is at it's lowest eb in a long time so I'm not up to date with the happenings :thumbsu:

Apparently fee is 500k Australian... That's a bargain for Rangers IMO. Should be double that.. especially since he's still contracted for a few years, however his release clause was only set at 500k?

Yeah a release clause of $550k supposedly.

Quite possible the best post ive ever read on bigfooty!!!

A big loss for us Brisbane fans, but this is what the A League should be all about imo. Giving young local players a chance, improving their quality with full time training and then when the reach a high level of performance giving them the opprtunity to take their game to the next level with a move to a good quality league and club in Europe. Good luck to Matty hopefully he continues to improve and grabs a regular spot in the Australian side :thumbsu:

I think that's what we need to achieve. We really need players going to leagues such as the Dutch league or higher and not Romania or the even the lower leagues of England and Scotland. If we can keep semi-decent to decent players here in the A-League rather than to some skilless hack league then we're doing ok with the A-League and it'll be worth watching..I guess.

Sydney FC will reportedly announce its marquee signing this week, with either Brett Emerton or David Carney the player most likely to be unveiled.

Australia veteran Emerton has been the subject of speculation of a move to Sydney, with sources close to the club revealing to The World Game that both parties have been in talks.

But off-contract Carney has also emerged as a potential signing after his move to English Championship side Nottingham Forest fell through last week.

With Nick Carle occupying one of Sydney FC’s three marquee spots and the other going to a youth player, the club potentially only has room for one of the two Socceroos stars

Hopefully for their sake it's Emerton- might actually rile the interest of the fickle Sydney football public. Carney will hardly gets bums on seats. Can't see them getting Emerton though he's still under contract at Blackburn and still in their best 11...

Carney as a marquee? Sydney deserve to have no fans when you think about it. Only reason they'd get bums on seats for him is people to yell abuse for his classic piece of defending in the Asian Cup final.

Really? Great for the league! :D Melbourne Victory could have publicised it more though. Have hardly heard anything about it.

Haha yeah I know!

It will be Carney, Emerton is a required and contracted player at a Premiership club, there is no chance Blackburn would let him go. Sydney would have to fork out a transfer fee and that'd be 5m minimum, no chance.

Why the hell would you make Carney marquee? At least that should stop him from playing for the socceroos though.:thumbsu:

Would be great if they got Burns!

You mean the link posted two posts above yours :p

Carney would be a disasterous marquee- Richardinho style. Bojangles is right the only extra fans they'd get would be hecklers.

It just seems to me that Sydney are desperately looking for a socceroo, any socceroo to sign up as a marquee as a knee jerk reaction to the Kewell signing. It's kind of pathetic when you think about it. Sydney started off the A-League as the 'glamour' club with the press surgically attaching their tongues to their arse, backing from Lowy, Yorke signing and the dodgy grand final victory to make sure they were the number 1 side. Now they've just regressed like many NSL clubs that came from Sydney and the powerbase is seemingly in Melbourne again. Not good for the league as we need Sydney to do well but I get a bit of a hard-on from knowing that Cockerill, Harper, Slater and whoever is in the Sydney press are hurting big time.

Haha yes, I mean that one! Farque, I am in my own world today, Richmond playing a Sunday twilight game doesn't help me on a Monday!

Apart form Yorke, Fowler and Kewell I don't think any of the other marquees have brought anyone through the gate. It's just an extension of the salary cap really. Carney would be a good signing for Sydney.
