I was disappointed with this as well. We could have taken mccarthy. Why do Geelong need another small forward. They are quite well stocked already. Stokes, motlop, menzel, chapman..

Hope we pick up one or two in the rookie draft Wright, Pets is ok i guess but think we to add to this area

not going to judge any players until they've played for us. different players adapt to afl footy obviously. for all i know, patton might turn out to be a spud. cant tell on draft day.

They have all come from the inaugural list (Hart, Rehn), zone selections (Ricciuto, Modra), the PSD (Goodwin, Edwards), the RD (Bock, Rutten) or from trades (McLeod, Jarman, Thompson).

At this stage I'm not sure how anyone could be critical on our draft selections

At pick 27 Matty R would have been toying between Kerridge and Grigg and to end up with both who are strong bodied clean inside mids, well we have been kissed on the d$&k by a fairy

A future midfield consisting of Sloane, Danger, Crouch, Grigg and Kerridge is very promising

Ellis-Yolman, well B Phillips has gone on record and said that this lad is Goodes like and that he (Phillips) would take Cameron as a first round selection, with this in mind pick 64 in this draft it's a no brainer

Finally re Joyce not much known about this lad other than the club must rate him if they have gone to the trouble to tuck him away at the club during the 2nd half of the year

Overall 4 strong bodied contested ball winners including 2 lefties - I like it

Stiffy is probably the best one we've got from the ND and he was a really late pick.

I think you've confused about the McCarthy's.

Lincoln McCarthy is from Glenelg and was selected today by Geelong at Pick 66.

John McCarthy was recently delisted by Collingwood and originally played for Dandenong. He will likely be picked up in the Pre Season Draft like you said.

Slightly off topic, **** the Giants midfield is awesome. Shiel, Treloar, Scully, Ward, Tyson, Coniglio, Adams, Greene, Sumner, Smith, Hoskin-Elliot. Add in Buntine and Haynes who can also play midfield and you have one premiership team in 2016.

Even if they lose half those kids in trades, what they get back will really good quality.

Of all nights I had to be unavailable it was draft night Still I'm relatively pleased with the results. Kerridge at 27 was mooted and he seems a likely type. While we have needs all over the ground, I've always felt that once you have a couple of key forwards, midfield is the next area to get nailed down.

Grigg seems to have some question marks over his pace but at 41 in a weak draft you've got to select players who have standout features and "best kick in five years" is fairly high praise. Nice to finally have another left-footer in the squad too

I know nothing about Joyce. Hahaha, on the AFL draft wiki page he's the only one who doesn't have a club of origin listed More than happy for us to take a punt on someone who's been "hidden away" due to injury.

Much the same thoughts about Ellis-Yolman. I don't take much out of the comparisons to Adam Goodes, but at pick 64 you'd be more than happy to take a punt on someone who has the size and the skills but hasn't had a chance to push his name above the other players. Obviously we were keen on him or else we would have passed for the PSD.


Some of the fancied names on here like Frost and Waldhunter, and of course Pfeiffer, are still around. Could be an interesting rookie draft!

Still no small crumbing forward

Marley , Williams did not get picked up whom is a small foward, neither did Sam Frost whom is a running Centre Half Back and neither did Waldhuter who is a ruthless Half Back Flanker type. All were picked to go within the top 50 and not knowing anything about them apart from the little we see on the internet Williams and Frost look like they could be players, but we shouldnt get fooled by Highlight packages otherwise Jarhan Jacky would be a gun.

Sando obviously gave Rendell clear instructions that he wanted big mids and plenty of them. A couple of left leggers in there as well.

Did we do well? None of us know for sure do we, which makes Drummond's negativity absolutely manic. These lads haven't even had their first training session FFS.

Given the fact that we only entered the draft at #27, we will have probably done very well if only 2 of these lads prove to be AFL footballers Time will tell.

Having taken 4 mids in the draft, I would think that the rookie draft will be mainly about talls, plus maybe a mature age player or 2. For KPD's I would think that the boy from Booleroo, Justin Clarke, will be on our wish list, as would Sam Frost and Andrew Bosely.

A rookie ruckman would also be a must IMO - maybe two if it's possible to find them.

I'm 90% sure we're getting James Craig back in as a rookie.

Sure, some don't like him due to how undersized he is (in height)
But his leap makes up for it in the middle, and his muscle mass makes up for it around the field.

If he can just get strength back into his leg that had the problems, then he could be knocking own the door to be Jacobs' backup.

Absolutely! Very much looking forward to the Rookie. We have Pick 5, so we sure get a pretty big slider from the ND. I'd pick Manson, but Port might pick him with pick 3.

2012 rookie draft is a normal one hence pick 5 is correct.

Sorry yes you are right - i forgot that the AFL calls rookie drafts using the next year. ie 2011 national draft & 2012 rookie draft.

Confusing - must be the same type of logic they used when rearranging the interim father/son rules

Well we certainly came out with a specific type. Hard ass players. They all have a mixture of other attributes, Kerridge with his speed, Grigg with his shoe, Joyce with his tackling and Ellis-Yolmen with his versatility, but they all are hard bodied inside mids.

A few tall boys hanging around for the RD. Few state league boys too.

"We'll have a couple of players' names there and if they are gone by the time we get to 64, we will probably go to the pre-season draft."

Rendell, who previously worked with Port Adelaide, stressed the importance of Adelaide leaving its options open on selecting a ready-made recruit.

"There was a great example at Port Adelaide when I was there with the great Alan Stewart," he said.

"We were going to use pick 50 for the pre-season draft but we got to pick 50 and Dom Cassisi was still there. Alan had Dom rated pick 12 in the draft so we had to take him.

"We have pick 64 and we might have someone I really liked at 27 still there. So you can't say what you are going to do, you've just got to let it play out on the day."

The clubs must rate him highly otherwise they would have passed.
