I was under the impression that only games played for South Freo, East Freo etc prior to Fremantle entering the AFL counted. In Brad's case, he wouldn't have played many games (if any) for South Freo before Fremantle entered the AFL.

That may well be true. All I can find is this:

Until October 31, 2015, Fremantle may include any player whose father made 150 WAFL appearances for East Fremantle, South Fremantle, Perth or Swan Districts.

From wikipedia, also found that on the AFL website (but from 2008).

Wonder if Menagola who was delisted by the Hawks would be a viable option for us in the rookie draft? It'd be a shame to forget about him seeing as apparently he was only delisted because he wanted more than a rookie spot. If we took him though I wouldn't think it'd be for any more than a rookie spot either..

Based on this, I decree that he'll be playing WAFL footy next year.

Straight from the AFL rules...

4.2.1 Players Eligible – All Clubs

Subject to Rule 4.2.4, a Club may include a person on its Primary List if the person’s father played 100 or more Senior Matches (being either Home and Away or Finals Series Matches) with the Club.

4.2.2 Western Australian and South Australian Based Clubs

In addition to the rights conveyed under Rule 4.2.1;

(b) The Fremantle Football Club may include a person on its
Primary List if that person’s father played 150 or more Senior

at one of the following clubs prior to, but not including, 1995:

(i) South Fremantle Football Club;
(ii) East Fremantle Football Club;

(iv) Swan Districts Football Club.

(Note: I've cut out all the stuff that isn't relevant to Fremantle)

It's utter crap the ways the rules are made to stiff Freo. Since West Coasts inception any WA Footballer of worth was in the draft and playing for the Eagles and other interstate clubs. Not to mention WA players like the Krakouer brothers, Barry Mitchell etc were courted by interstate clubs.

Not sure that the rules were made to stiff us, but I don't see why the AFL would have cut off the father son WAFL intake in 1995, considering none of those player who first played for us would have kids coming through for years. Would have been nice if they had cut it off 5 or 10 years after we came into the comp. Adelaide were also "Stiffed" if I recall correctly with Bryce Gibbs in similar circumstances, and no doubt there are numerous more.

Apparently Gerald Healy has said that Adam Mcphee, Jack Anthony and Zac Dawson will comprise $1.1 Million of the clubs salary cap next year. That's appalling, should be like half a mill.

Thanks Mr accountant man sir.
Guy's employed on the premise of being best 22 don't play for draft pick salaries. This is nothing unexpected. The only thing unexpected has been the incidental weaknesses that get exposed in their games when they're asked to be stop gaps all over the ground every game.

Based on form it is way over the top. Obviously Healy thinks it is ridiculous also. You realize that all of those players have left their current club beause the club didn't want to offer them this sort of money. $750,000 between the three of them is probably fair, anything over is wasted money. We don't want to be a club that accepts mediocrity.

Wrong. St Kilda simply didn't have the space, and McPhee couldn't stand knights

So he was going no matter what

If you really want to keep someone you make space. Anyway I wasn't really referring to Dawson. Mcphee was only offerred a two year contract at Essendon while we offerred him a three year contract. He still had the option of remaining in his home state of Victoria but no other club wanted to match the contract that we offerred him. Any JA only played two games this year, good return for investment there. I really hope Lyon can get something out of him and give him some game time.

To be fair, Who knows why JA didn't get more time this year though?

Mayne played as the full forward for almost the entire year while Kep, Pav and JA were all fit, so I think its just ignorant to say that he's overpaid because he was only given a couple of games.

Also the games he did play in, the entire team was woeful, so he was dropped unfairly imo.

Um...The Club knows and if you don't think there was a reason for it then who's ignorant? I would of liked him to get a couple more games but I think definition of overpaid in AFL is for someone to be earning a lot of money and not be playing well or at the level that is required of the salary. If you can't even crack best 22 then that is something else entirely.

Yeah right, that's why Palmer played inside mid all year and Michael Johnson played week in week out without being dropped.

I suppose that's why Walters didn't get a single game at AFL level after rd 3even though he'd kicked a goal a game.

I think it says more about the coaching staff at the time that they couldn't get the best out of a proven goal kicker especially when we were so hard hit by injuries.

If you think that we put the best players available on the ground week in and week out this year then you are looking through rose tinted glasses.

Some fair points, but JA didn't exactly star in the WAFL did he? You can't really count Palmer because the club knew that he likely wasn't going to be at the club next year. Technically Michael Johnson was best available although he was terribly out of form. It's hard to argue that the best available players got a game when we had so many injuries which made it hard to structure up.

JA must see the writing on the wall when over the pre-season we have tried to get in a KPF (Clark) and a KPD (Dawson). Surely if the club saw any use or had any faith in him at all they wouldn't be trying so hard to get in players who play in the same position as him.

I always walked with a little more confidence down Yougenup Road when I took the 3 tickets for $5 option instead of just 1 for $2 in the meat raffle.

kicked 27 goals in 13 wafl games which is better than any freo player this year.

Not to mention that Keps went a whole month and a half without a goal in wafl and afl and still got his regular gig back.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying any of our players are the messiah, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more / less of some of our players next year now that they have a fresh set of coaching eyes on them...

That is entirely the point that I am trying to make.

Palmer should have been played in any position that would have given us the best chance to win in every game we played.

Tarrant went home at the end of 2010 but we still played him as a defender.
