Yes it's back!

You know it - you love it!

Time for the Traditions to begin for another season - and MUBTG is celebrating a mini milestone in Five years of events prior to Geelong Games in Melbourne. Thats twice as long as any Hollywood marriage! Its also five times as long as any period without another rule change from the evil empire! In fact get along to MUBTG before the AFL bans it or tries to hijack it and charge admission.

Next week Geleong v Saints at the MCG, so Young and Jacksons is the venue of choice. No Transport Forrsy for your overpriced foreign beer sold by foreign backpackers - we want Calrton Draught served by students!

Anyway reply post if you can make it - familiar faces and new members are all welcome!

The Artist.......:)

Of course I will be wearing Geelong colours and not the monks habit.

they're probably the same price but more eye candy at transport.

you wont find me at either, will find some dingy dark bar where we can just relax.

You may want Carlton Draught, I'd rather drink stagnant water from a murky pond. Plenty of superior choices around thankfully. :D

Never attempted murky water from a stagnant pond. What sort of piquant does it have? And what's the after taste like? Is the water from some murky ponds preferable to others? :p:D

dont belive everything u read im actually a geelong supporter and did finally fork out for a membership this year, me and my mate head to most games together and always go the hilton for a few before the game, would be good one game to meet up with a few of you guys and talk rubbish before the game. Hilton for me though straight across from thr g cant go wrong....

I currently work at Biero in Lt Lonsdale Street, just across the road from Etihad. We dont have any Carlton but have what may possibly be the best selection of Aussie BEER (of which Carlton is not) anywhere in the country.

I can hook up a special if people want to come down before Etihad games. Free pizzas, snacks and some drink specials, etc.

Looks like we've found the new Nixon. :D:thumbsu:

I bought a corporate package to the grand prix and I am stuck with free carlton :( I'll have to find a way to consume. Maybe eat minties at the same time?

I said to them. If I go up to the top package do the beverages change? Nup. Idiots.

Also a mate of mine started the #realperoni movement.

Get on board !

this has been going on since the dawn of time hasnt it...im kinda lucky as my local wog grocer stocks all euro/asian beers that are imported for much less than what coles/woolworths charge for "brewed here copies" (currently imported stella and carlsberg slabs sit around $39.99 everyday prices).

Yeah but it is getting far worse now.

Like the article says. Buy an imported beer off a restaurant list and see if it is actually imported.

I have to travel for real beer.
The local dans only has Bud and Urquel.
There is a new batch of imported sierra nevada that is meant to be coming. I'll have to jump on that.

i cant remember ever getting imported beers at bars or restaurants, it hasnt gotten worse for me, it has never changed.

if you're ever around thornbury or bundoora then go to psarakos and buy up big.

“Beer is best the day after it leaves the brewery,” says McLoughlin
- What a load of crap! Similar to saying wine is better when it ages. Sometimes true, often not.

I am not fussed when it comes to the "premium" imports anyway as they are mostly trash, "fast-food" beer full of chemicals, preservatives and the cheapest of the cheap ingredients. You are not paying for a premium well made product, just superior marketing. I often laugh at people who say the like beer and then rattle off Corona, Heineken and Peroni as their favourites. It is like saying "I really love food, my favourites are KFC, McDonalds and 2 minute noodles".

But anyway, enough Beer talk. The offer still stands on some specials at the bar. If the organisers are interested and want to get in touch I will see what I can do. We have between 100-300 different beers at any one time, including 10 on tap, so if you cant find something you like, you dont like beer.

Cheers
Scott.

Well Scotty, we disagree.

Wines are different. I've run a winery.
But one of my best mates won the Worlds Best Boutique Brewer of the year award about 3 years ago.
He stills says beer is best the day it is packaged. I'll stick with him.

What people dont understand about beer, is there are a LOT of different types/styles. In fact there are more styles than wine and more flavours found within those styles.

I am not a wine expert from what I understand some wine can be laid and aged whilst others cant. It is a myth that all wine gets better with age. (I do remember reading that there are now more wines than ever that cant be aged as we live in a "drink now" society and the wineries find it cheaper and better for styles to make these types).

Try reading this 101 Lesson on beer storage, the information you really want is the first paragraph:

"Wine is not the only drink that can be aged for maturation. Many beers benefit from extended aging. We're not talking about your average beer with a mere shelf life of 3-6 months, tops -- before quality begins to degrade. We're talking about beers that beg for maturation and strict storage like vintage beers, barleywines, imperial stouts, Belgian strong ales, lambics, old ales and so on. Ideally, any type of beer that can be laid-down for a year or two, or even more, in order to build a slew of complexities and thus further its character in a positive way."

Also check out things like bottle conditioning, barrel ageing and check out some of the ingredients found in various types of beer - concepts I am sure you are aware of with your wine background - and you will get an even better understanding of why ageing works well.

similarly, that comparison is a load of crap.

as the article and vc point out, most people are not drinking legit import beer but beer brewed and bottled here. i dont normally drink the legit imports but a lot of them are brewed with no chemicals and preservatives.

the people that list corona (cough*shell*cough), heineken, peroni, etc as their favourites are invariably "scenies".
