AFL Club
Collingwood
Cloke
Dawes
Toovey
Obrien
Reid (has excuses)
Brown (has excuses)
Jolly
Thomas.

To win a flag you can't have 8 of your best 22 being out of form, is Bucks scared to drop any of these blokes?

add marty clarke please
Not sure why you'd add a bloke who has been out of the game for 2 years. Personally I'd have put him way above par given that fact. He maybe below where we'd like him to be but you surely don't expect a Gaelic footballer to walk in after 2 years out and suddenly be a star of the game.

No i don't but i thought he would be a tad better than what he currently is
Just pointing out that it's a bit rich to call him "below par" when most would have thought that his return would require a bit more time. Plenty of people seem happy to ignore the fact that until a few weeks ago he had nearly the highest disposal efficiency at the club. Not bad for a round ball player IMO.

While he has been quite poor lately I was very impressed with his first 7-8 games. He played some rippers, like against Essendon and the Bulldogs.

Also think Jolly is a little unlucky there and a few might be judged on recent form. Reid has been ok this year but certainly for an AA that is below par. Toovey has never really had that much influence, just an old-fashioned stopper. Definitely agree though that Cloke, Dawes, Thomas have been well below par. Brown didn't play at all last year and is just a little rusty atm.

I'm interested in how people assess what 'par' is. Is it how a player was playing last year? Or how well you expect a player to play? Because if only 8 players out of 22 are 'below par', then doesn't make the team 'above' whatever you consider par to be? So are we playing better than expected as a whole?

I'll suggest that other than Cloke and Dawes the rest have been ok but not great.

Shouldn't do this the week after a bad loss. :)

How the hell are we 4th on the ladder then?

Because others have stood up and lets face it, our very best is clearly the best in the comp, we will still win all but a few games playing at 80%, but at 100% we demolish pretty much everyone, clearly that isn't the case this year.

Or perhaps you don't pay a great deal of attention at our games.
Jolly has won most of his ruck contests and beaten teams with two rucks
Daisy up until his injury 2 weeks ago was good
Toovey has been very consistent
Harry has perhaps played 3 bad games but the rest have been good

The only two who I concede that are down on form are Cloke and Dawes

O'Brien was ordinary last year IMO. He should have been dropped months ago. Unfortunately we already have blokes getting a game who are good enough (hopefully) yet.

This year we have only been beaten by 2 sides thus far and that is with 4 knee recos, a long term shoulder and a long term groin keeping players out of the side plus our 2 key forwards being out of form all year. I am not sure we can get back enough form and momentum given the players who won't be a near 100% but we are very likely to play in a Prelim IMO. If we manage to snag a flag this year then it will be a great effort and we will know we have a great list that will be contenders for the best part of a decade.

Have to disagree with you there, Daisy is a mile off 2011 form, Jolly's been workman like but he hasn't been great (personally think he's overrated anyway), Toovs has had a few good games but not as solid as he has been in the past and Harry has been plain woefull at times, he too is a mile off his best 2010 form. just IMO.

IMO Maxy has been our best defender, right up there anyway.

It's the gameplan and structures. If you don't play in the midfield you are struggling. The forward line is systemless and the defence is having to cope with the opposition having too much time and space.
It is funny how some have thrived under the gameplan and the structures but the out of form ones have struggled.

We have beaten Adelaide in Adelaide when they were crushing everyone else, we beat West Coast when they were winning, we beat Essendon when they were undefeated and we beat Geelong twice, who we couldn't beat in 3 attempts last year and are also playing well atm. How could you look at it like that?

Name more than one player who ahs thrived who isn't playing in the midfield.

After the first few rounds we were marvelling at how Marty looked like he hadn't missed a beat. He has tapered off since then though - perhaps that's an indicator that he's behind with his fitness and needs another per-season to build his tank?

Marty used to be very fast and he isn't any more. Something is not right.

I'd add Simon Buckley to the list. I expected more from him. I thought he would respond well to having a change in coach. I thought he'd get a bit more involved. That hasn't happened.

This list doesn't include debutants and junior players who have little or no expectations of.

Sure, some have done OK, but we can't claim that every one not on this "below par" list has been a superstar - Yagmor, Young, Seedsman, Paine, Ugle.

It's a list of players i expect more from, you'll notice Cam Wood isn't on the list either, because i don't expect anything from him.:)
