I'm quite against us taking 4 midfielders, I think it would be selfish in a way. We also need to look after our future, hence I believe we need another CHF and another ruckman, also another small forward, although we did recently pick up Simon, one we can rely on. Kennedy-Harris next year looks the goods.

Haha I'm in Vic now. Still go back home a bit though so have an advantage to see both states sometimes. Just never changed my location on here.

Agree Sumner is very inconsistent, but can't see us getting Garlett/Simpson and I think this kid has their dash although hasn't put his game together yet. Our development as a whole has come along way and Choco has a good track record with the indigenous boys. Still has a long way to go but if he was close to the finished product then we wouldn't be getting him. To me is a boom or bust type player. We are due some luck after Troy Taylor. 34 seems about right as I could see him going earlier.

Tbh didn't rate Garner all that highly till I got my hands on the VC vs WA game. Absolutely love his aerial game but also his defensive side. Loves to tackle hard from what I've seen of him. Provided we take him, I hope your right and he can become a midfielder at the top level because he just adds more flexibility in the way we set up. With all our mids that can play medium forward we wouldn't need to waste a spot on a specialist and gives us an extra midfield rotation over other sides without losing the goal scoring power.

My only concern on Pongracic is whether he is just bullying kids that are half his size. Having said that, you would think his attack on the ball will hold him in good stead no matter what level.

For me right now I'd be happy with a result of:
9. Garner
32. Atkins
34. Sumner
43. Pongracic

Sumner/Pongracic probably need to be selected in this order as at a guess Sumner will be more highly sort after.

Agree with all of that. Garner we are just scratching the surface. I guess I see a lot in him, more than most, he has done a few things that when you see it you double take. Quick feet and ability to move in confined spaces. Would be delighted to get him at Pick 9. Hearing he is a kid we interviews extensively is good news. He is on our radar.

Rucci reporting that Crows may delist Mitch Grigg, with a commitment to redraft if he is still there at 83.

If, and it's a big if, that happened, I would be keen at 43. Absolutely keen

You are right in that we do still need someone to play CHF and Ruck as well as small forward but this isn't a deep draft for players in those positions and thats why we should go best available which will most likely mean we get four midfielders. The way I see it there's only one good ruck and small forward in the draft, they are Grundy and Kennedy with Grundy unlikely to be available at our first pick and Kennedy being a reach at our first pick but not going to be available at our second. Though at CHF I wouldn't be against going for Jaksch but I don't think we need him as his similar to Elton and won't be ready for a few more years but will be a very good player.

Where you get that game tigs2010? Is it on the AFL website or do you a hard copy of it.
Managed to get someone to put it on DVD for me.

They aren't all necessarily midfielders. Some will play as HFF's and other create depth beneath them. I think this draft could cap off our best 22 and start off some depth in the midfield and forward line. Then next year start to bring in our next wave of talls etc. (ie 4 picks 2 KPP or 1KPP/1 ruck, 1 small forward, 1 mid)

This year we could nab a small forward in the rookie draft. Warrell is a personal fave but he flunked the beep test pretty bad so could last till the rookie draft. Coleman-Broome another I think has some potential plus as you mentioned we have Gideon this year.

Ruck wise I'd look at Hannath/Currie in the rookie draft. (A couple of posts ago I said I'm getting out of the Grundy fantasy land from this arvo. :D) Of the juniors I don't really rate Pierce, Prowse or Fort. Fort's probably the best but even then he's a country mile off.

As far as CHF goes I wouldn't mind rookie listing Justin Hardy who is ready to go if we need him whilst giving kids like Elton/Griff/Astbury a chance to hold down a spot.

IMO next year's draft has better talls (Boyd/Conlon) and some potentially good small forwards (Kennedy-Harris and Rioli)

Do not want. He's gone backwards this year. Bullet dodged IMO.

Or, we could approach him and take him as a delisted FA!!!!!
Decision needed by Wednesday
I was nauseating in my desire for Grigg last year. The candle still burns...

Pretty sure they will delist Tambling with he same promise. And then hope like hell someone picks him up.

But if they delisted Grigg, well I'd hope Blair/ FJ would be on the next plane

Dreaming. I know.

Im not 100% sure but I think that Grigg was playing reserves this year and the Adelaide fans don't seem to be to excited by him.

Would rather pass even though i really liked him last year.

Fair enough. I've only followed stats.

The pace knock found him out? Endurance was good though. Ran a good 3km.
Still, I did fall in love with that kick
He ended up playing 3rds. Not someone I'd chase hard.

If we were to go a CHF like M_R suggests my pick would be Spencer White at 43. Probably have Pongracic replacing Sumner in my scenario on the previous page. A lot of potential to be a very good level player. At 43 would rather take the punt on someone being a very good player rather than just try get a solid citizen CHF.

This should be a good year to grab a speculative key defender. Seems to be a lot of mids and some decent backs, though hardly any good forwards. Next year that trend is meant to be reversed so it might be better to hold off on the forwards for another season.

Four picks should be enough for us in the ND, since we've turned over the list so fast. Any more and we'll struggle to give them adequate opportunities to develop, before the next crop come in. Once the ND is done we can make a call on Post if there is anything good left in the pool that we want.

Is he a ruckman? :D

Would be amazing.

Tippett will go in the PSD I assume, put $1million on his head and still get to Sydney. Shame that he will still prosper from this while the fans of a club will suffer for years from this as Adelaide's punishment from this will be massive.

Cant see him getting past GWS or GCS if he goes PSD, they have the cap space to accomodate his demands

I'm not, I don't think it would be selfish at all, many clubs have taken all midfielders with their first four picks.

Remember that the likelyhood is that Richmond will draft not 4 Hrovats, but 4 players who in general play between the arcs. That is, they play in the middle of the field, or midfield.

If we are to do a depth chart of Richmond's top 30 or so, it reads like this:

small/medium defenders: Morris, Newman, Batchelor, Ellis, Dea, Houli
KPD: Chaplin, Rance, Grimes
KPF: Riewoldt, Vickery
medium/small forwards: Nahas, Knights, Edwards, Edwards, King
midfielders: Cotchin, Deledio, Grigg, Martin, Foley, Tuck, Conca, Jackson
not set KPP: Astbury, Griffiths, Elton
Ruck: Maric

It's actually 28

Now it might seem obvious that Richmond needs another KPF and ruckman (which is probably true) it's also the case that I think we're better covered for Newman's retirement than Tuck's. Furthermore, I desperately want to push out Jackson from the midfield group. While King may struggle to get games due to free agents, who is replacing Tuck and Jackson?

Wouldn't be surprised to see Ellis get quite a bit of midfield time next year. But I agree, midfield depth will be a priority - but at the same time, important to take one KPP a year, in case Griffiths, Vickery, Astbury and Elton don't pan out as we hope.

A player I was interested in earlier in the year but seems to have fallen from discussion is Sam Lowrie. Anyone know much about him and if he's the type we'd be looking at with 32/34/43?

Tigs and I are both very much on the Lowrie bandwagon. Check the Official mock trial run for a write up.

I think he's certainly someone we'd be in the market for.

If we take a KPP then Harley Walshe is an interesting prospect as a defender and Spencer White as a forward. Thoughts on them? Like/Dislike?

Broke his collarbone. He's certainly another in that range. Only got a state screening invite so not sure how highly regarded he is by recruiters.

From what has transpired re. the draft and delistings and about to delist...tipping we go into the draft and pick up mids with first 2 picks, a KPP with the next and another project ruckman with our last pick...which IMO is a good balance moving forward..we should always pick up a speculative ruck project with our latter picks...we have to get one right one day..

Bound for Glory FM interviewed Spencer a week ago. Have a listen! :)

(Interview starts at 48:43)

There's also a couple of quick interviews with O'Rourke (15:35) and Vlastuin (31:49).
