Now that the BF Phantom Draft is over (and I managed to get him with the last pick :p) I want to get people's thoughts on Sam Gilmore as a ruckman? 201cm 93kg from Northern Knights. I believe he was an over ager so he's 19. IMO he's a good prospect as a tap ruckman, likes to tackle and get his hands dirty. Broad shoulders so looks like he'll fill out nicely. Won the Hitouts every game at Champs.

We won't take Stringer. O'Rourke will go to the dogs. You don't think we're interested in Vlastuin? I'm pretty he's our first preference.
I think we will take Vlastuin only if the other 3 are not available. Macrae would be the first option as we have missed a forward flank/midfield type player for years.. It was also stated that Stringer was told at draft combine he won't last passed pick 9 if still available. And there's always a slider so O'Rourke is it in my eyes

Arguably our greatest need is inside mid depth, and Vlas is nearly the best pure inside mid of the draft, he's a perfect fit. Don't be surprised if we pass on all 3 of those in favour of Vlas.

Yea could be.. but Conca has field that role. Proved that with amount clearances he was amassing a game last year. We'll have to wait and see!! Hopefully it's not a dud like a JON, Fiora or tambling

Grundy will not last to pick 9. whoever is available out of Macarae, O'rourke or Stringer will be our first pick.
Rookie draft a ruckman. gotta be a few bean poles around the state leagues there are of interest. Giles was this years smokey, there's some proof
Stringer is not worth a round 1 pick .

Lonergan would be my first choice and Sam Landsberger has said clubs feel he may be the slider in the draft and last till mid 20's at least. Not much of a stretch to see him fall further.

Then I'd take Pongracic. Just a huge body over the ball which is effectively what we need IMO. He's not a great kick either but he is solid/good enough and at least has consistency with his kicking. His attack on the ball would make him worthy of selection alone. That and I think he is a better forward than Graham so you can add versatility to his list of positives.

I should add I don't think Graham is a bad selection. I really like his defensive side too. And if he can add some consistency to his kicking he could be an inspired choice. Guess it depends how the recruiters rate kicking. Which I am not sure.

Just a question with Lonergan, at 182 cm and 91 kilos, he's significantly heavier than most teenagers, does he benefit from being much bigger than most of his fellow teenagers? And how fast is he? He's been listed as quick, if you're a 182 cm 91 kilo teenager who is quick, that's pretty damn impressive, surprising too.

The only question is, would you have time to blink before calling out his number.

I think he's an out-and-out gun.
If he slips to 15 or 20, clubs will end up kicking themselves.

Don't really see it TBH

I was joking:p ........I'm no expert but surely yes

Can't see us taking Grundy at 9, just don't see where he fits into the line up. Won't play ahead of Maric or Vickery and won't play as a KPD. Little point taking him and leaving him at Coburg either.

I disagree I see him playing as resting forward relieve ruckman for Ivan and Tyrone as full time CHF. Plus you don't draft for 2013 you draft for the next 10-15 yrs.

There's a fair chance that whoever we pick at 9 won't play a lot of footy in 2013. On the other hand, if injury hits, we may have no choice. If Vickery or Maric were to go down, Grundy may be very handy, given his already developed body.

.... and senior experience with Sturt.
He might even have played against Ivan in 2011

Played the one game against him with Maric getting in the best

One of the smartest posts I have seen for a good while:thumbsu:.

Too many for mine are posting with 2013 in mind. 2013 has got nothing to do with it IMO. Richmond have to show supporters they are serious about building a premiership team otherwise they will lose membership.

Aside from that, Grundy would be ahead of Tyrone and in 2-3 years he could be number one. If we have to trade a secondary gun possibly so be it.Needless to say all could play , early days yet , Vickery hasn't made it yet and Maric is a value proposition a very good one but not an outright weapon. We have 4-5 years to pick up mids if not longer that come on far quicker than the bigs as a rule.

In 4-5 years, Tyson, Scully, Orouke , Jaksch, Harper, Stevens, Garner, Bastinac might all want to come back to Tigerland the club they supported in their youth, on top of future draft hopefuls and other trades etc... Plenty of opportunities to get runners into the future

this is why you tend to draft the best available particularly in the 1st rd. you can end up chasing tail by trying to fill a need rather than picking talent which could hurt both ways as you passed on an obvious talent and that pick you did take didnt come on.

The other thing is when you get better players in the composition of list and goals change as do the hopes and prospects not to mention the belief. With the player movement now available, free agency, only a fool would avoid best available. All of a sudden you are looking at players that previously could not fit in or create an edge due to a new superior outfit with more options, or couldn't previously make the required/desired impact because the extra support was not there before your new gun arrives.

The number one goal is to fit the best team on paper to the list regardless of position IMO, it is only when we start making preliminary finals when you start nit picking.

As Malthouse said , when you get Ruckman make sure it is a good one, so we shouldn't pass up on Grundy in my mind.

You give Garner and others 3 interviews because later when other circumstances eventuate, free agency arrives, we want you son, come back home!!!:thumbsu: That is creating a winning, progressive, supportive, embracing, all encompassing culture

buy a sidcrome socket set if you want a guarentee!! i still would think if available at 9 we would pick him.
Agree, just pointing out that other clubs not taking him isn't necessarily a pointer to them thinking he's not worthy of that pick :)
