42 isn't though, and I doubt it ever will be, the Millane family seem set on keeping it as a retired number, and that's their call, so fair enough.

I'm sure other numbers will become unlocked soon too.

Who gets number 1?

Fasolo, Clarke or Witts would be the 3 main options.

Fasolo should keep the 35. You destroy the history of a number by rotating it every year. Sure a lot of good players will get to wear it each season but they will never be known for wearing that number. It kills the number, the possibility of a player to create history with it.

I'd be disgusted if the club unretired the 42. It would be hugely disrespectful.

Agree with you Quicky. I love the fact that #35 is such an iconic number, after two completely opposite players, Presti and Daics, wore it with such distinction. I don't like the fact that we will no longer be able to add new legends to it, as it will only rest with a player for one year, before being passed on to a new player again.

#42 should remain retired until the Millane family say so.

When I saw #9 was unused this year, I immediately thought that it would go to Fasolo in 2012, after #35 goes to this year's first draft pick.

Witts would be a good recipient of #1 I reckon.

Maybe Jolly could go to #3 and Marty Clarke can reclaim #18?

I would expect a relatively low placed number, say #15, to remain open next year, for whoever is first picked in this year's draft to wear it in 2013, after he in turn relinquishes #35.

Give Witts a high number (38), don't put too much pressure on him by giving him number 1 straight up (maybe he can earn number 1 in 2013/14).
Millane family mentioned earlier this year they may consider bringing 42 out of retirement if the right arrangements/respect for the number can be achieved. Eddy said it is 100% up to the family (not CFC decision).

Agree with the 35 comments, 50/50 on the 42. But if the family want it retired then so be it.

Or just cut the 4 off and give him 3.

I want Witts to get 15, he wore 18 in the VFL, and we know he can't get that, but Leigh Brown was his mentor, so 15 should be his number.

Fasolo for 1 or 9, he is our most promising youngster, he deserves a top 10 number.

I can be fairly obsessive about a lot of things Collingwood; but, I am with Kirby...numbers do not mean much to me.....I have a little soft spot for #36.....(RK was my fav player as a kid, and I am pretty mad keen on DS), but really the numbers just help me realise what player I am watching.....
