One question - why? Why do you think that?

What has he shown over any Joe Bloggs 2nd round draftee, who's also had a good year in 17s and then followed it up with a good year in 18s, and hasn't had the benefit of 2 AFL pre-seasons like Toy has??

That is what other clubs would have to ask themselves.

I suspect their answer will be "not much at all".

Saints got Pick 37 for Tom Lynch who was drafted at pick 13 in 2008. CLubs are still willing to trade on potential if they are young.

How are you blokes set for key defensive options?

Got to remember guys we won't be picking late in the draft. Probably done and dusted by the 3rd round outside the qld concession listings. This means there is no point trading for meaningless low picks. Need to upgrade picks, not accumulate.

Anyone care to have a stab at our projected delistees who hold no trade value? Last year we pretty much announced them the day after the final round. Will it happen again? Maybe not with new rules/free agency in place.

I'll have a stab

Lewis Moss
Nathan Krakour
Josh Fraser
Jacob Gilbee
Alik Magin (not due to lack of talent or desire)

Piers Flannigan and Hayden Jolly could find themselves in the same boat, however I do believe there is a lot of potential in both, and hope IF we get rid of them we get something back.

Remember also, still at least 50/50 chances of Dixon and Caddy walking.

Can't see Gumbleton going anywhere, myself. What would Freo's first pick be? May not be good enough if they make finals, considering all the compo picks being activated.

One page before this suggests players that might be going, either through trade or delisting. We won't be getting rid of 10-12 players. More like 8. 4 delistings we need to make + 4 of the compulsory additions we need to make.

Those certainly going to be delisted/retired/moved on from list:
Fraser
Krakouer
Moss

Those likely to be traded for picks:
Jolly
Toy
Nichols
Caddy(?)

Those unlikely to stay on the list and will either be traded or delisted.
Flanagan
Magin

I really rate Flanagan and Magin, but just cannot see them showing enough to stay on board. If we didn't have to cull the list, then they would be sticking around for sure. I can see other clubs picking them up.

I put a question mark over Caddy since it seems he's a bit more settled up here now. Not sure what's the go with him.

So with getting rid of 8 players, which we can do without removing Caddy, it leaves us room to get 2 players from the ND, throw in O'Meara and elevate the Horse to the senior list.

Surely Flash has to be on that list too, he it 24-25 and had a good shot at the seniors with limited success, thats the same age as Harbrow

I honestly think Patrick has shown enough to stick around. I thought he was really starting to adjust to AFL level footy, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him as a regular in the 22 next year if he can keep improving at that rate.

At first he looked way off the pace, but every week he seemed to be adjusting more and more.

Pretty sure Gillbee is contracted in 2013? Didn't he get a 1 year extension early in the year?

If Caddy and Toy both decide they want to leave and come back to melb then what would GC want for them?
Ideally compo picks which you could use in future drafts or KP forwards or defenders.

The bombers have no compo picks and no 1st draft pick to offer however we have quite a few young big bodied defenders and forwards. Would GC be interested in a young KP player + draft picks for both players?

I would of thought that if both players decide to leave that Essendon would be there preferred choice. I only say this cause Toy is/was a massive Essendon fan and has links to the club with the Fletcher family. Caddy on the other hand nominated Essendon in last years trade week, even though Melbourne FC tried to get involved he wasn't interested which I don't blame him, they won't win a flag for 10 years.

I would be happy to offer Pears (KPD) or Gummbleton (KPF) + 2nd round draft pick for both Caddy and Toy.

Good luck to both guys, hopefully they both stay with GC and Toy can regain his form that had him touted as a #1 draft pick.

Very well, and we won't trade him. The club has said a few times that we've been very careful with Schade not to rush him in, since he was very scrawny when we got him. He'll be one of our future pillars in defence when he fills out a bit more. Loved the look of him in the 2s, but yeah. Don't want to rush him.

Damn!
There goes that dream.

He'll be a bloody good defender.
Lucky bastards;)

I hope so too. I think we'd all be rapt with that. Unfortunately we can't keep everyone & Toy has already knocked back the contract the Suns offered him, so it looks like he'll be moving on.

This is called the Endowment Effect. We all rate our own players more highly than anyone else does. I reckon Caddy is a gun, but I don't rate Pears or Gumbleton at all. Yet I could imagine if I was a Bombers supporter, I'd think what you were suggesting was quite fair.

Absolutely right CheeseyCrust
I could never ever imagine a list manager in his right mind offering up substantial picks for Gumbo
He may come good..and I actually hope he does because this is his life's work and he's worked hard at it.
Having said that, anything Essendon gets out of him from here on in I think is a bonus
No-one will ever trade for him...he is the sort of player who if he doesn't quite establish himself, the Club loses patience and he ends up in the PSD where another Club will pick him up a as a speculator

Patrick will be in the firing line not through performance but the tight squeeze on our list where 8+ players need to go.

I'd hate to see him miss out, especially seeing the effort and improvement he has shown later this season. We know the consistency and development can come late with some of the indigenous players from rural communities but when it does it's worth the wait! I have seen enough in Patrick for me to believe he has it in him to make it. I'd hate to see him leave the Suns, but i'd hate even more for someone of his potential to not get a game at al!

I'm not saying he's a definite delistee, but is in the mix.

I will post my predictions next week.
