Moloney has officially left the Dees.

People say he has no defensive game, but he average a little over 4 tackles a game in 2011. Certainly seems alright for me?

I hope we at least look at him. Big bodied mid who can take some pressure off the others. Though we aren't really a stoppage team, so that could test him.

Moloney strength is his in and under clearance work , which we are lacking at so i can see us looking at him , only 28 agree with Sunny we have to at least look at him.

I still think we would be much better looking at 24-25yo players on the fringe of the top 8 clubs. Guys who have the seasoned bodies and with another 5 years of footy left in them.

Players like Byrnes, Maloney, etc are decent players but 1-2 years at best left in them, and are not filling an immediate void in our structure. Horsely with a full pre-season could be that in and under style player. Similar with Hall in the fwd line.

The only way I would recruit a 28+ year old player now would be a key forward (should the Tippett deal fall through). It would fill the immediate void in our structure until Lynch, Day, Dixon & co mature.

I agree, we dont want to bring mature players in unless they fill a hole, Maloney does not do this.

We need to keep our core group together with up to 12 guys rotating through that midfield game to game. Tippett would be nice but not sure about anyone else from other clubs.

The last two posts are spot on I reckon. Even a key forward who isn't a star but will simply take the best defender will be sufficient to our needs! Tippett is someone I'd welcome but I really don't want to sell the farm for him

^ Bad call Gary. Knee-jerk reaction call. Keep in mind that our clearance numbers have been exceptional over the last two years. Add to that another pre-season under their belts with a bit more bulk and endurance and the natural progression and I reckon our modfield's sweet.

Bower's really, really soft. Otherwise he's alright. I'd love us to look at a fringe guy like Tyson Goldsack. Tough, and is a real footballer. Looks like he's found a spot up forward though unfortunately.

im not saying for a midfield..
more so our backline than anything
we have a good midfield atm
unless caddy goes there is another spot opened.. i guess omeara fills it

Moloney is a midfielder mate...

Getting more experienced mids is a waste of list space. It uses a spot in the 22 that could be given to a young bloke which is unnecessary when our forward line is our biggest deficiency.

I do also believe Horsley will help fill any void for inside mids next season without tossing
more money at a free agent such as Moloney

I'm tipping a huge season from Horsley next year. Remember, he only had half a pre-season this year. He missed pretty much all of the fitness work, but arrived in time for the drill work.

If he can have a big pre-season, he'll have a big 2013.

I wouldn't be keen on Moloney at all, happy with the way our midfield stands up at the moment. I reckon Mitch Brown from West Coast would be an amazing get, the only problem is Glass is close to retiring so they expect Mitch to come in as that second tall defender, but if we could some how get him from West Coast it would be huge.

Gonna throw up a few key position names that are being discussed by other clubs as trade bait, possible delistings.

Should the Tippett deal not eventuate, we surely must look at recruiting an experienced mature KPF to fill our void for the next cpl years. We put it off last year hoping recruiting Warnock would allow Bock to move fwd... and we know how that turned out. Can't risk it again, especially with both Warnock/Bock not getting any younger.

Luke McGuane, 96 games, 25yo, KPD/KPF, very versatile big man, and best of all can play forward effectively, just no room there at the Tigers with Riewoldt. Originally a local lad from Broadbeach. Only 9 games this season. Cheap.

Quentin Lynch, 217 games, 29yo, KPF. Hulk of a man and a proven goal kicker looking like being delisted by the Eagles. 2 years maximum left in him, but would do the job needed. Cheap.

Mitchell Brown (WC), 57 games, 24yo. Versatile KPD/KPF, out of favour and talk of tradable but not sure why Eagles would let him go. Only 8 games this season.

Ben McKinley, 55 games, 25yo, not the true size of a KPF but leads well from the square and would take the best defender. Looking for a trade after not getting any chances in 2012 with Petrie taking over the fwd line. Iffy but cheap.

Then back to the old theory of another KPD to allow Bock fwd... sigh

Paul Bower, 84 games, 24yo, 84 games, KPD, can't break it back into the Blues lineup.

Thomas Murphy, 104 games, 26yo, KPD, can't break into strong Hawks team, again would allow Bock to go fwd.

Cale Hooker, 79 games, 24yo KPD / Tayte Pears, 63 games, 22yo, KPD, both could come up in a Caddy trade.

All these guys could give us 5+ years service, apart from Lynch. Anyone think of any others available that could do the job? Maybe pastey Trav Cloke wants to work on his tan? ;)

Only one i like from the list is probably q lynch. Provides that protectiin and probably only need a mediocre key forward for 2 years then our young ones will be in their 5th year and should start to be able to hold their own.

Alternatively get Tippett. The rest are list cloggers in my opinion

Had no idea Lynch was so out of favour at WCE. If so, he is the perfect build and age for the sort of KPF we need if we cannot get Tippett.

Will definitely protect the young KPFs for at least a year and will not command a huge salary or spot for more than 2 years.

Have to agree with Sunny on Mcguane, he is crap.

Great work on the list mate. Appreciate the time you took. Here are some of my thoughts:
Luke McGuane - absolute out and out spud. Disgustingly awful. Wouldn't want him in my local reserves.

Quentin Lynch - only looks good because he gets the third best defender at the eagles. Wouldn't rate him taking the best defender at the suns - I reckon he'd struggle big time.

Mitchell Brown - would love him. I hope we're going after him, but you'd assume that he's in the eagles long term plans. He's without a doubt a defender in my eyes though.

Ben McKinley - like you said, iffy. Not up to afl standard in my eyes.

Then back to the old theory of another KPD to allow Bock fwd... sigh

Paul Bower - soft as butter and just couldn't take a monster forward. Don't think we need him. I'd prefer Russell or Lucas coming off a flank for us from Carlton.

Thomas Murphy - yeah not a horrible call. Wouldn't be worth anything more than a rookie spot.

Cale Hooker / Tayte Pears - Pears I do not rate at all. But Hooker has moments of greatness. If we are genuine about picking up a key back, I hope he's one of our key targets.

All these guys could give us 5+ years service, apart from Lynch. Anyone think of any others available that could do the job? Maybe pastey Trav Cloke wants to work on his tan? ;)
Also, and I may be biased somewhat here, but having watched carefully for literally every game of his career, he would be a godsend to our forward line. Gazz and Harley putting it down his throat. But more than that, you'd get that get out of gaol kick to the best contested lark in the game. Only worry I could see is that I reckon Trav has the propensity to put on weight. He'd want to be careful not to end up like Lance Whitnall by the end of his career. Similarly, Tippett is a poor mans Cloke.

I read somewhere that Geelong is interested in caddy, which I believe given we failed to lure boak.

If it were to happen, would our Ablett comp pick be about fair?

Given the suns list restrictions, I would think a comp pick that you can bank for a future draft would be gold to you guys.

Correct. We have already traded 2 of those compo picks back which will be handy in list management going forward.

Tom Murphy ain't a KPP, despite Clarkson trying to do it for about 2 years straight and him therefore being about their worst player over 2009-10. He's solid when he's asked to stop a small/mid-sized player, but that's about it.

McGuane's been decent enough since they threw him forward. Would play for almost nothing, IMHO.

McKinley isn't an anything.

He's fine at locking the ball up, while it's still in the immediate vicinity (far from soft) - but once the quicker guys (which is almost everybody) take it out of there, he's lost. Bit like a Jobe Watson. Doesn't cover ground well.

Would be good value for a lot of sides - GC don't have anyone else who's really slow in there, so it shouldn't be a massive issue (whereas I don't think we could really run him & Watson effectively in the same set-up).

Q Tip was linked with us previously and I think he would be great
Works hard and seems to be well liked
Much much better for us than Kurt in a number of ways IMo

Does anyone know when the official cuts are announced
Was it done on the day of the B+F last year??
