I guess the club just now has to toss up between Gilham/ Hine/ Toy, all probably competing for that last spot?

sorry for intruding but what the hell happened to Sammy Iles, looked the goods in 2011 but just couldn't get it together this year?

I really hope he does, deserves it.

Disgusting treatment of Sam Iles. I am removing the Suns as a favourite club grrrrrrrrrrr! *rage*

I really hope he finds his way on to a list.

Didn't watch many games? Iles was in the Suns best most games he played this year. I don't know what he did to Mckenna, but bluey has shown very little love to him since he arrived at the club.

would love to pick him up watched most of his games in 2011 but didn't watch too many this year.

Josh Toy averaged 3.6 disposals per game in 2012, with a whopping highlight of 7 disposals against St Kilda in June 2012... And we delist Iles! Crazy stuff, definitely deserves to be picked up by another club.

He stepped up this year. He was even better than last year. He was extremely dependable down back, had good composure, racked up a lot of the ball, and was rarely beaten one on one. I remember being extremely unhappy when he was dropped. He was having a great season, was one of the best on ground the round before he was omitted, even picked up a brownlow vote that game, then got dropped the next game and didn't get another look in. Would love to see him at the Tigers. Very solid player, will never be a superstar, but every club needs a couple of players like Sam Iles.

It wold be interesting to take the emotion out of the delisting of Illes and figure out why he was let go. On the surface he has impressive statistics.

My thoughts are defensive aspects and or effective use/choices when he had ball.

I would be interested on thoughts of other posters.

You know me, GoTassie, I don't follow a team too religiously, pretty much just go for the Tassie lads. I watched a lot of the Suns games to keep track of the progress of Weller, Russell, Hall, and Iles (haven't seen one of Gilbee's games yet, look forward to watching Schade). So I keep a very close eye on those guys, and Iles in particular. I couldn't fault his game. Defensively, he is very good for a guy that plays the role he was playing of half back. He tackles well, is always competitive, and busts a gut covering ground. His disposal is very reliable, but not elite. His decision making is as good as anyone at the Suns. I was starting to pump him up a lot mid way through the year, he quickly became one of my favourite players. I honestly have no clue why he would be dropped, and even less clue why he would be omitted. It's incredibly disappointing. The only thing I can think of would be off field issues.

I am not being biased either. I haven't really pumped up Weller as much as I would like to, he has been OK, but not particularly impressive. Same goes for Hall, who has shown good glimpses, but I have been no where near as impressed with him as I was with Iles. If you can go back through the game threads, not sure if they still exist, you will see a lot of people praising Iles game. I don't think I am the only person who will be surprised by this delisting. Very frustrating.

If I had to choose between Iles and 85% of the Sun's list, I'd choose Iles.

This is because we have to rapidly cull our expanded squad. It is more brutal than what the other clubs have to do (GWS excluded)

Last year when i heard of the delistings i agreed with them all but it was always going to be tougher this year.

You seem so passionate that its time to dump Carlton an join us properly. :)

I am so incredibly tempted to put up our current list (taking in to account delistings) and make you pick out the 35, 36 odd players that you think are less important to our future than Sam Iles.

Good player but jeez I wont lose sleep over him. These things happen when your developing young players.

so i am confused
which players are still techincally in limbo

i know hutch hasnt re-signed but hasnt been delisted?
confusion!

You have to be kidding me.

Who was better than Iles in the first half of the year? Very few Suns players, that's for sure. That's why Iles was name in the Suns best more than anyone else from all the games he played, besides Ablett, until he was omitted. Bennell was next with 6 out of 10.

He was named best in round 1, (inexplicably dropped for round 2, 3 and 4), best in round 6, Suns BOG round 7, round 8, round 9, round 10, Suns Bog round 11, then inexplicably dropped after two solid games in the subsequent rounds in which he had two 20+ disposal games. So he was best in 7 out of the 10 games this year and was very good 9/10 games, with one average game where he got 12 disposals and a goal against North in round 5 after a four week break. He was twice Suns best player. Not many Suns players whose record comes remotely close to his.

Iles was massively underrated, and unjustly treated. I don't see how anyone can argue otherwise.

Poor old Hickey is in limbo as he is under the thumb and obliged to follow his gf where-ever she wishes to go.

Good write up Tazwegian and I appreciate the time taken to post comments.

Your comments were spot on regarding his positive feedback, which was reflected in his statistics for 2012.

It is hard to believe he had off field issues as he worked so hard to get back into the AFL system. He is also in the right age bracket for a young side.

So it is an amazing and disappointing delisting. It would be interesting to know the reason behind his exit.

Maybe one day we might find out!

Not about that at all mate. We are in the business of developing young stars and obviously he isnt seen as having the tools of becoming a star in the position he plays, he is behind a lot of guys in the way of future potential.

As I said good player, do not have to prove that to me but if you think he is more important to our future than 85% of players on our list then you need to catch a wake up my friend. Ignoring that statement, you could be dead right in saying the list management team made a mistake, time will tell and I would love to know the exact reason they let him go.

Maybe one day we might find out!

Apparently Bluey highlighted "defensive deficiencies" in Iles' game according to afl.com.au. What a joke, may as well delist everyone besides Ablett and Stanley if that's his criteria. Mckenna was my favourite player in his day, quickly becoming my least favourite coach.
