IMO and only a guess, If it were to happen then Jolly/Clark would play Ruck and rest forward, better than Jamar and Dawes/Hogan to play forward.

Wouldn't be against this...hard job fitting in all the talls.

Blease won't make it, he's been given too many chances. Howlett a goal kicking mid

Maybe not pick 23. But Howlett goes ok in the midfield when they eventually give him a go

I like Blease. We are dreadfully slow around the ground and he is that burst of speed that we sorely lack. Like most of our young players, has gone backwards under Neeld. No surprise really. A better tank and more defensive pressure could see him cement a spot permanently in our 22.

Howlett...is pedestrian. He's decent granted but nothing special. I would have him behind Viney and on par with Trenners/McKenzie.

What do you like about Blease?

The fact that he

Doesn't chase
Doesn't try
Has one speedy run every now & then that people cream themselves over
Is soft
Is extremely outside
Only runs one way
Doesn't depend or tackle

Time to start trade people into the club that try IMO.

There are much better options at 23, it was only an example for fun. However Blease wouldn't even do Trengove or Mckenzies shoelaces up

  • Good goal sense
  • Good skills
  • Takes the game on
The bolded are things that can be attributed to his poor fitness. I don't know why he hasn't rectified it in past preseasons, but he has upside that I can confidently say 1/4 of our list don't have.

Actually I think he has poor skills too.

I think Blease is one of the guys Roos talks about when he says there are potential half forward / back flank talent that we already have that can be developed into midfield. His turn of pace can cut through defensive structures and make things happen, but his fitness and therefore two way running (as Roos puts it) is non existent. He is contracted for next year so wouldn't mind seeing if Roos can get the penny to drop.

I think Roos will keep Blease, if only because of his pace.

It's another thing that we have a huge need, leg speed & for that reason I see him being given a chance to succeed under Roos.

He can do anything, is contracted, but he doesn't seem to have the "want".

You'd think there would be a possibility of you guys picking up Nathan Jones' brother if he's available at your third rounder.
been speculated a few times, nathan apparently wants it (instagram)

Jonesy has been such a warrior I'd give up a 3rd rounder for his brother no worries
If he has half the work ethic of chunk he will be good

That is like pick 37 for us , fair chance he could still be there

Zak Jones is your classic 30-50 type pick I reckon, the fact that he's playing as a defender goes against him despite really good performance.

That's good that he's got the experience of defence first which will fit in perfectly with our new mantra I would think

Agree. Not sure about Zak as I haven't seen him play but Paul Roos made an interesting and great point the other day as to where the game is going and I think it's a great idea, basically said that your pockets & flanks must be filled with midfielders. Of course there's going to be an extra tall here and there but makes sense. So instead of drafting a small forward in say Stephen Milne, the forward pockets would be rotated with for eg Swan & Pendlebury.

I think there will be the odd small forward picked up here an there but they are going to be in the class of Milne not Jamie benell

We have to many players who aren't great in the 50's but don't get much of the ball

Midfielders have the ability to go forward and crumb packs & be just as good as Milne & have the flexibility of running through the middle.

Milne was a once in a lifetime small forward, if you actually look at the stats of small forwards over the years you'll find that it's a bit overrated, most don't make it.

Midfielders resting forward is a much safer option.

Correct. You can't coach speed - it is a valuable attribute that players either have or dont.
