May well be a strategy to keep them positioned to maintain top picks over many years, as they develop and start to win their picks will slide, trading out key position players, of which they have plenty, may keep them at the top end of the draft.

I like the story of Sydney seriously considering McCarthy at 15 and GWS wanting to give another middle finger to the swans. Can only wish it is true though, but mind you, most would agree it was a strange draft selection.

That's my opinion, but obviously just an opinion from the outside looking in.

McCarthy is a strange selection...I think Patton will go so might be a back up plan for that if he aint signing a new contract. But, I wonder if they will try turning him into a tall mid/hf? I heard he can run all day

getting both Taylor and Aish is just gold....A month or 2 ago the talk was that Taylor could be coming to us at #7 with Aish still a lock in #2. Too get both I doubt no one would of seen that coming or even possible

What the hell were they doing picking Taylor. They must think he is going to play AFL straight away otherwise they have completely ruined the plan of having the tallest reserves side in the history of creation. All the other second rounders fit the plan very nicely.

Out of curiosity, Quigs, are you disappointed that we've picked him up? I remember you were very dubious about him in your phantom.

The thing I love about Aish and Taylor is they are both exceptional in taking on the opposition. Aish has a real Simon black/ablett evasive skills in close and finds space where others cant. Taylor will be a real play on specialist and hopefully help put a stop to that stagnant kick-mark-bomb blindlessly long gamestyle we get easily stuck in at times

I probably would have preferred to see us take someone else as I do see myself getting very frustrated with him. With that said there is a lot of talent there and I like everyone else will be hoping that we can get the most out of the talent and address his weaknesses. He could be a very good player for us but I still worry about the Sherman-like tendencies with the ball in hand.

So disappointed? Probably not as much I thought I might be given he was our 4th pick.

Quigs I take your opinions on board - I think his decision making is pretty good, but I understand what you are saying. The background story gives me confidence that he will make it. He's got to where he is largely by himself. In the right environment - he will blossom - I am quite sure.

Is Taylor the type of player who would benefit from having a strong midfield around him ?

I think it would help. Just as it might with any other player. But I can't see our midfield affecting him or anything. He is quite a capable player.

Won't get much attention in his first year with Hanley and Rich getting the tags.

Aish is one guy I am going to be interested to see how he goes without a tag. He was getting tagged in the SANFL and did okay without setting the world on fire. With a bit more freedom we could see exactly what we have.

It'd be hard enough for an 18 year to be playing in the SANFL Seniors without getting tagged. He still averaged 17 disposals and kicked 7 goals from 13 games. Spent some time down back as well from what I had been told. The previous injury he had would have affected him in some way too. Like you said, he went alright this year. Didn't have the year many were expecting him to have though. But a good talent nonetheless.

The parallels between Rich and Aish are quite remarkable.

Midfield prodigies.
Both seen as top 2 picks a year out from their draft.
Both coming off back to back state league premierships.
Both slide to Brisbane at pick 7.
Fans from their home state convinced they will come home after their first contract ;)

The knock on Aish being he doesnt win a lot of his own ball, but wouldnt that be kind of difficult as a 16/17 year old in the SANFL?

From day 1 next year it might be an interesting choice on who to tag, Rich or Aish. Also considering Hanley was starting to get some close attention this year as well. With the likes of Rocky and Maloney still running around, Taylor should go fairly un noticed.

Especially a skinny whippet such as Aish. Nothing a bit of Thymosin beta-4 protein powder and steak can't fix.

So Jarrod Harbrow -> Suns = Compo pick to the Dogs
Dogs trade compo pick to us for Justin Sherman
We use compo pick for Yeo
We trade Yeo to Eagles for pick 28
Pick 28 = Lewy Taylor.

Think I've got that right.

Yep, that and vigorous calisthenics on the hard ground.

Sounds like we have to get Blacky surfing with Aish post-haste.

Where did the Brennan trade get to this draft?

Was going to work on that one next, but I might have to call NASA to help out with the figures...
