I agree with everything you have said about mcrae.. But from what I've heard through reports and bigfooty etc he seems like a smart kid who would work on his deficiencies and be able to get better in those areas.. If he does that then I think he can be a fantastic player.I liked Plowman but not as much as others. I had him outside the top ten (13th or 14th I think?) on my ratings but expected him to go top ten. Top three I never would've guessed and I still think it was a dumb selection for GWS.
I think there was a bit of talk about them taking Stringer or Menzel for a little while but it obviously didn't amount to anything. I can't speak for them. Stringer could've gone #1 if he wasn't injured but he was a risk. Who knows where he would've gone if we didn't take him - but I'm glad we did.
For most of the year it was a clear Whitfield, Toumpas and then...far out I don't remember, someone help me out.
Macrae was a late bolter. Stringer could've gone anywhere.
I'm very happy we took him and think we look a better side with him in it, but I still don't think he'll become a top 20 player in the competition like a lot of supporters seem to. He'll be a very solid player but I still disagree that he'll be elite. He has an uncanny ability to find space where there is none and that's why I perceived him as a low risk player, but he isn't especially exceptional in any other area. He's also very one-sided and until I see that change it's unlikely I'll change my mind.
He's an athlete, not a footballer. Has been delisted from two clubs without playing a game, getting upgraded or even getting close to selection. Pass.
The Dogs have told young Werribee ruckman, Ben Brown, of their intentions to draft him this year (words were "if no one else picks you first, you will be a Dog in 2014"). Not sure of the Dogs plans on when they will draft him - as a guy who will be 20-21 (92 or 93 born) when drafted, and is still pretty lanky, I think he will be a late pick with the intention of a couple of development years.
The good - motivated, hardworking, grounded, nice family, tall, athletic, good footy brain, nice skills for a ruckman
The negatives - skinny, top aged, may not improve in a quick enough time frame (Jones, Grant, Campbell, Cordy all have a couple of years on him)
Personally, I would love to get this guy at North in the 70-80's or a rookie pick. The Dogs did not signal their exact intentions of when they would like to get him, but I don't imagine it would be earlier. If it is, best of luck to him, he deserves it as a reward. Doubt many kids have worked harder than him to get to this stage of his career.

I'd be quite happy to pick him up, saw a little bit of him through the Foxtel Cup and the VFL and he looked pretty good, and seemed to do well at the the combine.
Nope. I don't see the need for him at all. Fine if he was a genuine ruckman, but another skinny, beanpole quasi ruck/forward is waaaaaay down my list of priorities.Am I the only one reminded of Ayce, when watching Ben Brown play?
apparently 100 kgs already

This was even true of the notoriously "shallow" draft in 2003 (when Cooney was picked #1).
Fronk what happens if Cordy doesn't make it and Minson loses his strength and falls off a cliff (both pretty clear possibilities)? Campbell will play first ruck, but then Jones is likely first to be his chop out, which isn't ideal at all. Brown would give us something really unique up forward as well as a potent second ruck option. The KPP depth is light and if we pick up Darley as has been rumoured, then use 4 and 22 (if still there; if not 38) on some outside talent we're pretty set. A developing ruck/forward is probably third on my needs list, behind some outside pace and a third tall defender.Nope. I don't see the need for him at all.
