I feel like we need to add more to out defence.. Not only on the half back line but other spots too.

Right now in our defence who look to be quality and are young are: Roughead, Talia, JJ. ( I can't remember anyone else).

So you would think that we would have to bring some relatively young lock down defender etc as well as a half back.. Our forward line atm seems full of fire power.

Agreed, this is why I like the Kolodjashnij's.

Jake Kolodjashnij||| Roughead||| Young
Kade Kolodjashnij||| Talia||| JJ

Or what about this for next year

FF Grant Stringer Dal
HF Crameri Jones Billings

With Campbell, hunter and Gia to rotate

Another of our supporters chopping out existing talent/potential in favour of an unproven kid. Geez we have some fanciful thinkers.

Hey Twin, if draft Billings, are you telling me he goes into the team AHEAD of :=

Lachie Hunter ?
Shaun Higgins ?
Clay Smith ?
Damiel Giansiracusa ?
Tory Dickson ?
Bob Murphy ?

Where is Campbell "rotating" to & from ? He is either ON THE FIELD as a forward, or relieving Minson in the ruck. MINIMAL time on the pine for big blokes nowadays as it limits the runners' rotations.

So many posters use the term "rotating through.." either as a throw away 'cos they can't fit them in their best forward 6, or do not understand rotations in the modern game. It is common for teams to have "blocks" of players who may rotate through HB, FWD, MID and the bench. SO for example, JJ, Griff, Grant and Macrae are block 1, then maybe a couple of blocks of players who rotate via FWD & MID (and bench) only.. ie Gia, Stringer, Hunter, Hrovat etc. It's akin to having teams within teams.

We have PLENTY of FWD/MID types, so I think if you read between the lines (look at Dannnnnnnnnn summation) draft watchers are questioning his value to OUR team (not as a player) as most believe we need a mid with silky kicking skills and a high endurance capacity. Billings may not be that player, whereas Aish et al may be.

Similarly, I believe our forward structure may be too tall, BUT, we have benefit of those tallish players being fast and mobile (Grant, Jones, Cramers). Thus with a big bloke (Cambell/Minson) and smaller rotating/permanent forwards (Dal, Hunter, Gia, Macxrae, Cooney etc) we will be awkward...nay...difficult to matrch up with. If Billings info is on the money (intimating he is a small/mid forward predominantly, there are better options for US.

comes in cycles... how long before the BERGER is back as the one we all think we need?? I give it another 2 weeks.

I have been on the Berger for 3 months. Haven't changed my mind once.

And I'd be disappointed if we picked Billings at the expense of a Berger, Aish or Kelly.

We get one serious pick this year. Should use it to fill one of our list holes, imo.

I don't think we should be reaching for players.

In order, who we should take.
1. Aish
2. Kelly
3. Scharenberg
One of them is certainly going to be there at our pick.

I give it until the Scharenberg write-up finds its way into the AFL website. :)

I'd love a taller mid (188+) at pick 4 as we already have a plethora of smaller guys, Scharenberg or KK. This will only change if Aish drops cause he is a complete freak. throw in a Reynolds or JK at 40 and I'm happy

Agree that a running defender would suit our needs over a medium forward, all depends on who we see as best available.

When I look at our midfield down the track. Taylor just suits what it needs so well. Really hope we look at him.

I'm sure he will get more of a buzz when his draft profile is released.

Sounds like us ending up with Aish is a real possibility and he compliments our midfield beautifully. Could see his career following a similar path to Griffs. Highly rated SA mid, starts off on the halfback flank as an outside player before turning into a gun mid who can win his own ball and use it well.

I think my preferences for now (will probably change again) are Aish > Billings or Kelly, can't split em :p

Jeez I can't wait for next years draft. All the top prospects fill our needs whether it be a KPF (Boyd, McCartin) or an outside mid (Smith, Duggan). Really exciting. And it's a non-comprised draft, first one in ages!

As for this year I'd be ecstatic with Aish.

I can see St Kilda taking Kelly and been a really good fit

Something like 1- Boyd 2- Bontempelli 3- Kelly 4- Scharenberg/Aish

i'd be pretty down if we took Berger over Aish. really sold on the idea that he is what he is going to be as a footballer. A solid player to have in defence. Like an Enright. Thing is he moves like he's a bit taller than Enright. Bit lopey.

Aish however gives us what we need, which is line breaking ability, a special kick in the midfield, and could easily build on this inside game and become a complete mid and potentially the best in the game or thereabouts

Edit: Scharenburg does fill a need too to be fair. Can break a line too. I just see the problem of our half backs in the future as a problem we're going to be able to control

Does not this Aish find it hard to get his hands on it enough

The highlights I saw, the Berger is a very strong mark, very strong - like the cut of his jib

But really I have no idea - yet

traditionally no but he was coming from a tiny fitness base this champs so didn't win it prolifically. Has done though in his two years in the SANFL seniors well enough.

Berger is a strong mark but that's about it. If we were to recruit someone for that spot i'd go KK. his foot is unbelievable and he's also a pretty strong mark

Well if Aish was doing well in the SANFL seniors it seems unlikely he would fall to pick 4 - that would be enough to sell me on him.

I think Aish's kicking efficiency was at 86.7% at the Championships. That is probably better than the 60% efficiency a majority of our players are probably averaging :D If he can win more of his own ball/contested ball, and grown into the game, he will be a very good player, and it would be good having a player with a foot like that on the team, especially the ability to do it with both feet.

DE% figures hugely inflated by playing 90% outside. SA were set inside so he played a much more DE friendly role.

I asked here a few months ago to compare the Berger to Goddard at 18 and current. Most saw him as a potential shadow of the player Goddard is/was.

Has the general consensus changed?

Frankly the prospect of Aish slipping is pretty exciting. Aish/Shar/Billings/Kelly will all go great in our premiership team.
