I don't really like discussing prospects we aren't going to select (which is why I'm not bothering with all this Freeman tosh), but Jonathan Marsh is really slipping under the radar.

Inconsistant? Yes. Terrible kick? Yes. But he's the fastest player in the draft & 191cm tall. I don't even see his future in the forward line, his future is in the midfield as a line-breaking wingman. His blistering pace & acceleration, complete with his height and some extra muscle built from a few pre-seasons would mean as soon as he starts running, he'll be nigh-impossible to catch at AFL Level.

However we won't be selecting him. It's still between Billings, Scharenberg, Aish, Kolodjashnij & the smokey, McCarthy.

McCarthy? I don't really rate him that highly, why do you think he's a smoky?

Well, this board is delusional

Another genuine clearance specialist with elite endurance and pace, Freeman tested impressively at the NAB AFL Draft Combine. The youngster from the Sandringham Dragons took out the repeat sprint event and came second in the 20m sprint testing, while also recording a top 10 result in the beep test and 3km time trial. An accomplished ball-user on the outside with an explosive change of direction, Freeman also has the ability to find his own ball with his strong build and ability to read the contest. He improved the defensive aspect of his game in 2013 and will be a tantalising prospect for any club looking for a line-breaking midfielder.
We get it, you like Freeman. Everyone else disagrees with you. Let it go.

I actually rate him. Good height, athleticism, and possesses great footballing instincts for a raw prospect. I think he's a class above Liam Jones in terms of talent.

I still wouldn't take him at pick 4 though, the only reason I mention him is because one of Callum Twomey or Sam Landsberger said we were looking at him (that's what a read a few pages back anyway).

I'm not sold on him, he's got good instincts but he seems a bit awkward a bit of the time. And as you said very raw. But there's no way he's worth pick 4, I doubt he'll be taken before pick 14.

Think he's a chance to go at Brisbane's pick to be honest. Will be Lennon, Sheed or McCarthy I feel.

Brisbane can't afford to take a bit of a risk with that pick due to losing their young talent, I think that they'll go with Lennon. Or they could end up with a slider, which could be Scharenberg or Aish. Say if the 1st round goes:

Boyd
Kelly
Billings
Aish
KK
Bontempelli

Then Brisbane will jump at Scharenberg with pick 7.

Lennon's still a risky proposition though, he's a long way from a sure thing. It just depends what they want. If they want to play it safe, they'll take Sheed or Crouch. If they want a key forward and are prepared to take a risk, they'll go McCarthy. Lennon is a bit of an in-betweener in all regards, so they could opt for him. I don't think Scharenberg will be there, personally, but if he is I agree they'll likely take him.

Lennon is a much safer pick than McCarthy though. And I'm still convinced Sheed is going West, but he would be a great pick for Brisbane if they decide to go that way.

Crouch would be a smart, safe pick (assuming Scharenberg isn't there). They're not blessed with inside ball winners, and Crouch will be ready to go from the start of the season, and he's good enough to forge himself a pretty good career.

FWIW my preference is still Scharenberg.

With you 100%........... The "Ice Berg" floating across half back is exactly what we need, big, strong, skilled, versatile ready to go. He ticks all the boxes imo..Will be the Ollie Wines of this years draft if allowed to slide??

Nothing against Scharenberg, but the best player career wise should be the thinking .
Wines had a great year last year, but doesn't mean he's going to have a better career than those picked before him.
I'll say it ad nauseum pick the best player

Good bulldog man Sam, but Emma Quayle is more on the money with draft selections.

Agreed…. Daniel Rich had a blinder first year too :)

I understand and I'm not advocating Wines is going to have a better career than those before him however he had a great first year just doing what he does week in and week out including 2 finals... Simply doing the basics well with 100% effort..... It's a safe bet I know but doesn't mean it's a wrong one?

I think Wines will have a better career than most in front of him excluding Stringer who will be an absolute gun through the midfield and possible whitfield when he puts on size

Wines just might be a lot better, Scharenberg will be a good pick at 4. Aish would be a good pick 4. Tough call for mine.

we can add him to the list of inside mids then. Smith, Wallis, Libba, Stevens, Boyd, with griffen, hrovat, and macrae being 50/50 inside/outside. while our stocks of guys to deliver it to our forwards is..... cooney and hunter?

^ my point being the board has been calling out for 2 things all year, a goal-kicking forward and some pace and polish. we already have enough good young mids to do the grunt work

He's one of the best midfielders in the comp.

I'm not sure if your actually serious… He still can't break a tag and after winning the rising star had a quiet few years… among the best midfielders in the comp… maybe if the comp consisted of melbourne and brisbane!

I know exactly nothing about this dude, but a well kicked ball travels faster than anyone can run. You can forgive extractors for having a poor kick, but an outside player who cant kick shouldnt go anywhere near first round.
