We absolutely needed to smash this rookie draft given our drafting sanctions.

I'm liking our 1st 2 picks. Now we have to develop them. It would be great to have a few rookie upgrades putting pressure on players to be delisted or moved on.

Given the sheer volume of retirements & dead wood we need to clean out next year, we need at least 2 of these rookies to put their hands up for senior promotion - even taking our return to the first two rounds of the draft into account.

Both Cameron (15) and Batto (11) have played senior games in 2013 - would imagine these 2 will slot pretty comfortably into the ressies and push for that round 11 upgrade.

I agee with the club on not drafting a young ruckman and instead going for mids. Next year is a far better big man draft than this one. We wont have draft restrictions and so can get a good one early. Also we need a ruckman now, and no skinny 18 year old is going to be able to step up next year and not likely.for 3 years at least. Plus we will go after Lycett next year and maybe Day.
If the draft had good mids but no talls, you take the mids.
My massive issue was not taking Garlett even as a Rookie last year. Will be a gun and some of our board will be eating Crow. Worst decision ever.

We obviously went into this rookie draft with a reasonably organized plan in mind.

We've taken 2 quick small forwards in Cameron and Spina, who can both do stints as a mid-fielder.

We've taken a mid-fielder in Battersby with elite disposal who can also play in defence.

We've taken a tight checking, smothering type defender in Kelly who has a bit of height and can play on both smalls and talls. Also a left-footer.

We've covered small forwards with pace, mid-field and defence. Next year is obviously going to be the year of the talls for us.

Would have loved for us to take a punt on Conlon and Wilson, to me they're perfect rookie list players with loads of upside, but happy we got Battersby, and Cameron sounds promising.

Seen a few mention something along these lines although I'm not sure I agree with it fully. If we draft a ruckman next year, then he'll most likely be another skinny 18 year old ruckman who is going to take a few years to develop. By getting one now (Darcy Cameron seems like the best one that missed out but I'm sure there were a couple of ruckman maybe even a tad older then 18) it means we could put a whole year into developing them so they're one year closer to being able to play at AFL level.

Hopefully it won't matter either way as Jacobs can bounce back to his 2011-2012 form and remain uninjured. Only time will tell whether we made the right move or not.

No point having the PSD anymore since we now have FA
No. There will still be the digruntled player who doesnt qualify as a free agent that will want to move on. Today there was only one, but there will be more in years to come. If you get rid of the PSD, do they then have to go into the ND? Can they still name a price then?

I think with Pods in the side McKernan will concentrate on ruckwork. We have Smack for another 12 months so that may also be why they didnt go a tall.

We've actually got 4 rucks on our list;

1. Lead ruck - Jacobs
2. Back up - McKernan
3. Emergency break glass - Graham
4. Developing - Osborne

Not sure why people are getting bent out of shape about not getting a 5th

I agree re Conlon. A player well worth the punt in a rookie draft. Its a 50-50 on him but jeez if he makes it, we are laughing all the way to the bank

And you can be certain that Jenkins will be doing some ruckwork! I have been very vocal that Jenkins is not a ruckman's arseh*le but the clubs seems to be pushing him into the ruck at every opportunity they get.
