Oliver Wines:
12th in total disposals (in the AFL)
10th in total contested possesions (in the AFL)
16th in tackles (in the AFL)
18th in clearances (in the AFL)

for a second year player he's ok i guess. if only we had one of the best midfielders of the modern era coming to one on one coach him.

oh wait, we do.

Bounces:

Effective Disposal %:
1) O'Shea 80.2
2) Jonas 79.9
3) Hombsch 79.4
4) Broadbent 74.7
5) Carlile 74.6
6) Trengove 74.5
7) White 74.2
8) Pittard 73.7
9) Cornes 73.5
10) Cassisi 73.2

Clangers:
1) Ebert 3.1
2) Lobbe 3.0
3) Wines 2.9
4) Polec 2.6
5/6) Hartlett, Impey 2.5
7/8) Boak, Gray 2.4
9/10) Westhoff, Cassisi 2.3

Wow, show this stat to all the Pittard bashers who question his disposal, for someone to be the 8th best for effective disposals and still be a massive whipping boy for the supporters is amazing. Yes he does some stupid things and I clench my ass cheeks everytime he tries to bounce the ball but he is not any different to anyone else.

Joel Bowden used to rack up effective disposals too. When you are the designated quarterbacking back flanker you bloody well should - kicking sideways to a pocket and back is the easiest disposal in football.

i am one of the biggest Pittard supporters here but the disposal efficiency stat is useless. defenders always dominate the stat because they predominantly have uncontested possessions and kick often to maintain possession. especially when an effective kick is counted as a kick that goes more than 40 metres to the opposition, the stat doesn't really have much use. the fact Hartlett and Polec are not in this list and Chaplin is very high in the AFL at this stat pretty much debunks it.

clangers are even worse because frees against are paid as a clanger, so naturally the ruckman and people high in the tackle numbers lead this stat.

Spot on. Seven of the top eight in that list are defenders.

I hope Pittard continues to improve as he did towards the end of '14 but I've said it before and I'll say it again. Pittard was touted as an "elite kick" before coming to Port. So far on what my eyes tell me and on what I consider "elite" he has a ways to go yet. I suppose this puts me in to that stupid "Pittard hater" category when in truth the only thing about Jasper I really can't stand is that piss poor excuse for a mo!

LOL i seen a picture of him on Facebook in casual clothes at Boaky & Grays new pub, the guy looks like he is 12, the mo atlest makes him look like has hit puberty.

Marks inside 50:
1) Schulz 3.4 (10)
2) Wingard 1.8 (6)
3) Gray 1.7 (5)
4) Westhoff 1.6 (4)
5) Monfries 1.2 (2)
6/7/8) Boak, White, Hartlett 0.6 (1)
9/10/11) Mitchell, Ebert, Wines 0.5 (0.75)
Hmmmmm.....

Western Bulldogs circa 2006-2010 looms in my mind.

While I agree with the 'DE is useless to measure players who just kick the ball sideways' line of reasoning generally, I'm forced to ask whether you've ever seen Jasper Pittard play if you think that line of reasoning applies to him. He probably takes more risks disposing of the ball than anybody else in our team. To be top 10 in DE the way Jasper plays is very impressive.

Between 2008 and 2012 I would have agreed that the player in Pittard's position was racking up unwarranted possessions that way. But by the lack of booing when the ball comes out of defence we know that this is not happening. when Broadbent and Pittard sweep the ball out of defence, Pittard gets it out with his runs up the middle and long kicks and Broadbent with his wide switching kicks.

Additionally, to bash an old cliche its not just the quantity of turnovers, but the quality that counts.

What make me not only clench my arse cheeks, but gives me total intestinal collapse is how his turnovers often seem to fall into the waiting arms of a cluster of running/marking oppostion players who usually kick a goal as a result.

It's probably got a lot to do with the way AFL football is played these days as well, because if you turn it over coming out of defence the opposition are often positioned to take full toll. And maybe its just me because I think he is a wingman being played as a defender. It would be interesting to see stats of how often players turnovers result in opposition scores, or something similar, but that might be a step too far for most statisticians.
