Wow, with the Phil Hughes incident and me going out, I had completely forgot the draft was on at all.

What did your expect when we had 2 players pre-picked and one live pick in the 60's?

I never referred to just our picks. I meant the whole draft was uninspiring.. apart from the top 10 there were only 1-2 smokeys.. last year i'd say most picks even up to 30ish were pretty good.

Some post Draft thoughts.

Interesting Draft by the "team" - not a lot to dislike.

Pick 65: Very happy with the Watts selection. I had him inside the top 65 on my Draft Board, and the next best Genuine Tall Defender available. (I did have Beasley ahead of him, but he is more a "third Tall Defender" than a "Genuine").

Pick 73: McGrath is also a value pick here. A talented small (179), he was in the AIS side at the start of the year, but was out injured for most of the season. You can see him here:

vs Collingwood Reserves at the MCG. He had a reasonable game (he is No.4 for the AIS).

Pick 81: McGuinness was talked about pre-Draft as someone we were interested in, but I have to admit he wasn't on my radar. To have used this pick, when every indication was that we probably would not, suggests to me that we didn't expect McGrath to be there at 73, and having taken him, we still wanted to get a guy we had "earmarked". Happy to back Conole's men, and this late there is never any "failures".

Footnote:
I would think that the Watts/McGuinness selections puts a lot of pressure on Bourke to step it up. I expected us to pass at 81 and elevate a Rookie (Bourke). Maybe he has not impressed with his pre-season running (if the reports from those watching training are any indication).

Not a single ruck. Either we rate Smith super highly and/or there's a Kristelly type heading our way in the rookie draft.

Possibly, but I don't think it's outside the realms of possibility they also view Andrews as a possible ruck.

Worried that Watts won't gain the size required as the KPP I think he is 10kg lighter than Paps who is same height... Maybe they drafted him as a tall midfielder/winger. has some wheels and good agility for his height.

You really take your name rather seriously don't you

After securing Beams, Christensen, Dawson and Andrews with what would have been our draft picks (losing only Patfull); it's a free hit @ pick #65 for Conole an Co. - the pressure is off; I think they'll pick a dead-set roughy that no one has mentioned, but has one excellent AFL standard trait :footy:

Personally, hoping Jaden McGrath slips to our first live pick

Close enough :)

If our remaining academy boys slide through we instantly get all the nominees on our rookie list, right?

We can. It's not automatic, we can now choose which, if any, we want to prelist. We also have our Qld zone selections if there's any non-academy boys that look interesting, plus an early rookie draft pick.

Still a better Watts than Jack.

Can't hold a candle to Fergus.

Wonder why we didn't touch McKenzie?

Wonder why 17 other clubs also let him slide and slide and slide. It's hard for me to get worked up about a slide like that when every other club passes on the same player at least once.

Anyone concerned that Tasmania, since they have not yet got their own side, are slowly replacing our side with their own?

The Tasmanian Lions, coming 2019!

They've been at it for years (Lynch, Sherman, ACorn, etc).
