I seriously doubt that McKenzie is much slower than Boyd, Patton, Hawkins, Cloke etc. He is a power forward. Kicks nicely and has good hands. Can't believe anyone is jumping off him because of that one video - he was running into an open goal.
This. He didn't exactly look like he was going at 100% either. He might not be fast but I wouldn't be ruling him out over that.

Also just can't see us passing up Cordy. 190cm (anyone got his latest height/weight? I reckon he will end up a bit taller than 190) athletic player who takes intercept marks, has really nice skills and can lockdown on talls and hopefully smalls sounds delicious.

have you seen Brayshaw live?

not saying Blakely is better/worse over Brayshaw

but Brayshaw will probably be playing AFL for a couple of years before Blakely, is massive for a midfielder
so there is that

No I haven't, just going of the Metro games and highlights. He just seems to miss a lot of targets, which the stats back up. Blakely just seems a lot more composed and smarter, and has played well in the WAFL. If both are inside mids, I prefer him.

think he is about 192cm
definitely a long term player though, the kid can be picked up by other players by the scruff of the neck
and moved like a chess piece by other players and I'm not just talking about other KPPs

I wouldn't rule McKenzie out either, but as a first rounder
very iffy

He looks quite fast to

in his highlights videos he took some real dangerous kicks

if we DID downgrade our picks to GCs, I'd be very happy if we took him

Good to know, cheers mate, hopefully he can get to around the 194 mark. Yeah no doubt he needs some size, or at least strength. I like him a lot though and feel we're lacking a Morris replacement.

Any idea where Jarod Garlett goes in the draft? I probably like him just as much as Pickett tbh, would it be fair to say he's a bit harder at the ball? Wouldn't cost us a top 10 pick either like Pickett.

Garlett? 15-30. Got a feeling that GWS take him before our second rounder. At least that is where I have him atm.

Maybe the second round, early

might suit a teams needs perfectly so he might be reached for possibly even earlier
hard to tell

not sure Cordy would make it as a Morris KPD, maybe a Hargrave type though?
still not convinced yet that he is worth our second round pick...although if Higgins does leave and we're compensated, eh :P

Not sure if everyone else is the same, but who I want for us at our first pick keeps fluctuating!!

Firstly, I see us finishing 13th. We will beat GWS, and Carlton won't win another game. So either pick 6 or 7, depending on Frawley, who I anticipate leaving and the AFL will make sure its a first round compo in order not to give a priority pick...

So pick 7 for us.

I bounce around between players, but I think I am finally settling on Laverde. He sounds like a great compliment to our young mids already, being a slightly more outside type, but being a similar draft year improver to both Macrae and Bonts.

My next pref is probably Lever. A play reading 194cm KPD who can rebound would obviously fit in at any club.

Bit of a gap after those 2, at times I have liked Goddard and Duggan, but just not sure...

don't be seduced by the highlights reel ;) rookie mistake

but I agree with what you'd said

I insert every appearance I find in the 'highlights' - good and bad. It's more a 'match log' than 'highlights' but the latter sounds a bit better :P

you could just link to Skippos phantom draft you know?

I made the videos public on youtube (and disabled embedding - sorry about that; making me a cheeky bit of cash atm so probably worth being a bad bloke for unfortunately. Guess videos with ads > none at all. but again, sorry!) so chances are he found it that way instead of through my mock; not sure he knew :P

~~~
The more I think about it the more I think Lever's just the perfect fit. Just have to hope Carlton don't pounce at 5 (or they win a game!) or even GWS @ 3. Really hope you guys get him.
We will be on top of Carlton as they have Essendon in the last week...
So have a look
this is what im hearing-None of st kilda Melb GWS and Brisbane Carlton want a ruckman so we will get Wright...
St.kilda-McCartin
Melb-Pettracca
Melb-Brayshaw
Gws-Lever
Bris-Weller
Car-Durbin
Bulld-Wright
G Coast-laverde
W coast -Picket
Rich-Ahern
Good job
Absolutely no chance roos takes picks 2 and 3 to the draft. Wouldn't surprise me if he even traded both picks.
It's hard to trade top picks in the AFL. No one wants to give up their elite talent. It's not like NBA where you but up pick two and get some unreal offers.
If I was Sydney I'd be trading Mitchell and Malceski (who will probably go anyway) for pick two, especially with Heeny coming in.
I'd be very, very disapointed if we took McKenzie at pick 6. Very.
Lever, Lavarde and Durdin should be our three options presuming Wright, Petracca, McCartin and Brayshaw are gone.
FWIW, if Brayshaw is at our pick I would not be surprised at all if we take him.
yeah seems to much of a stretch for pick 6, but one of the other clubs (e.g. Freo) prob pick him up late first round so wont be there for us in the second.
Then we don't pick him at all.
I haven't really followed this years crop at all, so am mostly reading these names for the first time.
Where is the best place to see some footage of each of them - are there any videos on youtube/afl.com?
Brett Anderson saying Paul Ahern will go top ten, and is his smokey for #1.
Hmmmm. Also should add Lachie Weller as someone I'd happily take at our pick.
If we miss out on McCartin / Wright, i'd be more than happy to grab Pickett with our pick. Watching guys like Isaac Smith for Hawthorn, Christensen / Motlop for Geelong, Hill for Fremantle cut open the Hawks or even Yarran burst away from Varcoe on Friday night, Pickett could really give us an element that we don't currently have. The best teams seem to have these great run and carry guys who kill you is you give them too much space and Pickett could be that guy for us. More than happy to back our recruiters in if they think he is up to it.
If we wanted that I imagine we would go Ahern before Pickett, we really seem to have a Victorians first policy.
The issue is that his defensive awareness and willingness to work hard is bordering on atrocious. He really doesn't offer much in a defensive sense and I think that's a problem our side has at the moment - we don't play defense tightly enough and we front-run too heavily when we get on a roll. So many players on our list have poor defensive awareness and adding another - no matter how much they offer offensively - with a high-end pick just doesn't appeal to me at all. He's a talent, but I'm pretty harsh on one-way runners as I just think they have to be a) truly exceptional talents, b) in the right system, and c) surrounded by the right teammates in order to not be a liability at times. The names you've mentioned aren't defensive powerhouses or anything of the sort but they do provide better coverage than Pickett does in my opinion.
Would be staggered if Ahern goes at pick 1. A pick in the 7-15 sort of range is about right for mine.
Yep I agree with what you're saying. I think that kind of thing can be learnt pretty easily and a lot of it is about effort, which i'm extremely confident the coaching staff could quickly rectify (ala Macrae).
