I meant KPDs as well once you look at our KPP stocks we need to add at least 4 more IMO.

Absolutely we do....that is why I am keen on Jaksch as he can play both ends. If we can get him in the PSD then that would be a real result....

Richo came out and said we need another fwd and some outside run so you would think they will be the two key aspects addressed with our first two picks unless a slider comes along like Acres last year.....

I just hope we can grab another couple of picks in the top 30

Fair call.

But there have been some decent KPP taken later in the drafts and i think we could possibly find one or two ourselves.

Worth looking at Featherstone?

This year's leading tall goal kickers
Port : Schulz - Originally Pick 12.
Sydney: Franklin - Early pick, Tippett - he's the one , pick 32
Hawks : Roughead - Early pick Gunston - pick 29
Cats : Hawkins F/S
Tigers : Riewoldt - originally pick 13
W Coast : Kennedy pick 4, Mc Govern, Rookie
StKilda : Nick, Pick 1
GWS : Cameron, special choice pick
Crows: Jenkins , Rookie
G Coast : Lynch , pick 11

There are a couple of exceptions. But most are early picks.
Then there are 2 second rounders Tippett, Gunston, and a couple of Rookies.

While McCartin didn't really have any massive games people seem to be forgetting that he still kicked 7.4 from 3 games while looking pretty underdone after coming off an injury. It will be interesting to see how he, Wright and Petracca go from here. A big end to the year from any of them could determine who we pick.
That is all very true and with regards to McCartin, not only did he not do badly, but he was playing in a very ordinary team (especially against SA) and we've seen how hard it is to play key forward for us this year, for instance, and I noticed that he was also getting regularly double-teamed (or had someone put in the hole in front of him) which would have made things even more difficult. That said, if he's good at AFL level he'll get double-teamed and so-on there as well.

As for how many more games they have, their season goes about as long as the AFL season, so there are plenty more games to come, including finals for the teams that make it.

which is fine for our 3rd or 4th pick..............but IMO we need a tall fwd and some outside run MORE than another key defender wouldn't you say? (we do need another key defender but as I said in a previous post we have so many holes we have to prioritise - unless we can wheel and deal before the draft which I'm sure we will do....

We could still find the next Tippett late in the draft!! :D:p

Would have been interesting if Father/Son bidding was put in place in 2006 would Geelong be here now with Selwood + Hawkins still?

We drafted Billings more on his 2012 form over his injury interrupted 2013 (even though he was AA in both years) and it has worked out well for us.

Could it be the same for McCartin? I looked up his stats from 2013 and he averaged 2 goals a game in the Championships and kicked 21 goals in 8 games in the TAC cup. So while it seems he didn't set the world on fire this year he still managed to kick a few goals coming off an injury and playing in a poor team. To me this shows his class and talent and also the Fox articles highlights that he knows his weaknesses and is doing the necessary work to fix them (ie. his goal kicking technique). Seems like a player knowing and willing to work on his weaknesses in order to become the best player he can be, an excellent trait.

Edit; I haven't been able to watch him play so just going by what people on BF are saying as well as the 'experts'.

McCartin or Petracca for me draft either and i won't be disappointed.

It was Wright or McCartin but gone very cold on Wright.

What looks better o_O

HF: Jack Billings, Spencer White, Daniel Markworth/someone
FF: Darren Minchington, Patrick McCartin, Tom Lee

C: Blake Acres, Christian Petracca, Eli Templeton
R: Tom Hickey/Billy Longer, Jack Steven, Luke Dunstan

(I still have hope Markworth can develop into a nice HF/Mid and Minchington to become an handy small forward/mid).

IMO reckon in most drafts, there is usually only a couple of standout performers, which normally go at 1 & 2.
Then its KPF`s, Midfielders (which you only have to shake a tree & a dozen good ones fall out) then KPD. With most clubs believing if there aren`t any top defenders around, then they can change any surplus fwds into backmen.
So reckon we should go for the best KPF early/

Tall forwards are often maligned because they take so long. Clubs love it when they draft an Ollie Wines and straight away plays good footy.
If Jack Watts turns around and ends up being a leading goalkicker in 2 years time , the rest of us will be going....ohhhh why don't we have a jack watts in our team.
Talls are also more injury prone. Longer limbs and higher weights means more load on the joints, but the joints are made from the same stuff as everyone's.
So you get your Gumbletons, McIntosh's, Lleuenbergers, and start getting them up to AFL standard. ( this could be a problem with Stanley ).
This would be more of a risk when you draft an 80kg 200cm guy and expect him to build up to 100Kg, while running with the pace of Jetta and the tank of Rob Harvey.

I'm quite interested in the idea of picking up Rahul's boy Hugh Beasley with a late or Rookie pick.

'Only' 192cm, but monstered Tom Boyd last year and has had another great season for Oakleigh, including going forward and kicking a bag a few weeks ago, which is what we have tried to do with Simpkin.

Was the fastest bloke at Oakleigh last year, despite being a 'KPD', is a great intercept mark and spoiler. Would be a superb replacement for Sean Dempster, who ain't getting any younger...

this is a very important point. something that i think people are forgetting. i reckon we'll look at the bigger picture and not just form in the comps

i remember in the jack watts draft the biggest debate over here in WA was who was the better of:
Daniel Rich
Nic Nat
Stephen Hill

would be interesting to see how people rate them now
