Stanley and 21 for 14??? Or Stanley and third rounder??

Club has been clear that we want to stockpile talent in 2014 & 2015 which is what we did in 2013.Richo also said we will take 4-5 selections in draft plus rookie list. I strongly believe we will see

Stanley to Geelong for Pick 21
Pick 1 to GWS for pick 4 & 7
Membrey for our 4th rounder or PSD

This gives us 4,7,21 & 22 which pretty much falls in line with what the club's been saying...

It's all starting to fall into place...

The Saints remain an interested observer in developments at Greater Western Sydney and in particular with the Tom Boyd-Ryan Griffen negotiations as well as Kristian Jaksch's likely move to Carlton.

And the Pelican waits to swoop

This will be another big boy-esque back lash if it happens, then everyone will take a breath, look at the deal and realise that Pelican knows what he is doing.

If Geelong has offered pick 21 that is just the start IMO. We will be trying to get pick 14 out of them.

Stanley + pick 40 for pick 14
nope this will be worse for me and better for the masses, everyone knew mcevoy couldnt ruck, and the majority of saints supporters hate rhys instead of loving mcevoy, totally different

We can't get rid of Stanley now surely not adter we played out best footy when he played his best footy.
the majority of poeple just want any trade it seems and willing to settle for thier whipping boy.

elite contested mark, elite kick, elite tap work for a backup.

its called the riewoldt factor thats killing him

Brett Anderson nominated McCartin as the likely current #1 pick on SEN yesterday. Apparently Paddy skittled a few Vic Metro kids & slotted 3 goals in a Jonno Brown like performance.

A mate (hello LP) who has a close friend in recruiting at one of the Vic power clubs, says his mate reckons Wright is still clearly #1.

At this stage I think McCartin probably suits our forward structure better (especially if Rhys Stanley is to be in red white & black in the long term). I love what McCartin potentially brings to the table but am very nervous about his reported kicking yips. Are they as bad as reported Rahul ?

If we do get the opportunity to draft Wright then you'd assume that Rhys will be moved on. I can't see how we could have 4 200cm+ blokes in the same side whereas having Hickey & Longer rucking & drifting forward, with McCartin playing the Jack Darling deep forward role & hopefully Spencer roaming everywhere is pretty enticing.

No jumping the gun yet but the Stanley trade because we want to draft Wright has been in my thinking since May.

I hope we push Geelong for pick 14, even if we throw in pick our 3rd rounder (Stanley & 39 for 14 & my boy Taylor Hunt ;))

Agree. He's just sit around 55 for the cats who would go to him for a ping from 65 or Hawkins if he was open. I'm not a fan of the trade for a speculative pick 21.

Rewind 12 months

We can't get rid of McEvoy now surely not after we played our best football when he played his like against Carlton earlier in the year.

If we do trade Stanley, then we really need to make the trade of 1 for 4 & 7 happen, and take Wright with pick 4. I prefer Wright over McCartin anyway, but there is not guarantee that Wright is still there at pick 4. If we trade Stanley, and don't pick up Wright or Boyd (unlikely) than there is a huge hole in our list.

Would prefer to keep Stanley and pursue a trade for Armo personally, but just have an uncomfortable feeling this one will get done:(

Not keen at all on trading Stanley. He's just starting to get into that games played zone where he could become good. Look at how shithouse Hawkins was for so many years. I'd hate putting all these games/time with injury into him and then seeing him flourish because we trade him for another tall player who'll need years to develop. At least wait one more year.

Let's say multiple trades go down and we shift #1, Armo, Stanley, #41 and #60 for #4, #7, #21, O'Shea and Membrey...

Further, let's say we take Wright, Lachie Weller and De Goey with the picks...

Feasibly our Round 1 side could be:

FB: Geary - Delaney - Dempster
HB: Newnes - Fisher - O'Shea
CR: Savage - Curren - Montagna
HF: Billings - Riewoldt - Membrey
FF: Wright - Bruce - Templeton
RK: Hickey - Dunstan - Steven
Int: Ray - Wright - Ross - Schneider
What suggests Wright will be ready to go Round 1?

I understand the structural component for Stanley, but we're not exactly fighting for a flag right now. Otherwise, I don't understand the love for Stanley. I think he'll still be off and on for his career. Surprised if we actually could manage pick 21. I bet most Cats supporters would be aghast.

I would definitely like something more than 4 and 7 for 1 though.

In the next two years, Stanley will either become a very high quality player, or a waste of talent (note: I said the exact same thing about McEvoy 12 months ago). If this goes through, it'll be years before you can tell who the trade winner is.

Pick 21 doesn't quite get me excited enough. Pick 14, probably with steak knives from us, does.

Still, the Cats better be careful, pelicans can be dangerous

Think i'd be way more upset about losing Stanley than I was about McEvoy last year. We knew what Ben's ceiling/potential was before we traded him, Stanley could be anything.

Also we trade him for 21 and we're essentially flipping Stanley for Mckenzie. Is that worth it?

GWS don't have anything left...except maybe a player?

This is an interesting stat. Very interesting:

He was also ranked 5th or 6th in the comp for marks per game for those who played mostly forward in 2014, ahead of the likes of Buddy, Pav, J Riewoldt, Kennedy, Petrie, Taylor Walker, Tom Lynch, etc.

12.45pm:
“We have had inquiries about Rhys Stanley from several clubs, as we have had about a number of our players. We will continue to explore any potential deal that is in line with our list management strategy," List Manager Ameet Bains tells SAINTS.com.au.
