“It is not as black and white as some people believe. While Petracca is a very exciting forward/midfielder I think McCartin’s claims on being the top selection have been undersold as he’s a quality key forward and they don’t grow on trees."

I take that comment to mean that picking Petracca wasn't as easy as everyone thought, and that McCartin would have been a worthy pick 1 if we had gone with him.

;)

...........and why not? :)

Don't worry too much about Petracca. There are other things that come into account here.
Is it cardboard? Cos we don't want that either... :P

Change of thinking in the last week or so

Range of factors -

Petraccas testing not up to scratch for a pick one

McCartin leadership qualities and potential captain

Don't want to make the same mistakes as the Bulldogs and have to pay overs for a forward in the future when their is one right in front of us

Unless something drastic happens between now and Thursday McCartin will be picked at one

No not cardboard and nothing to do with Carlton.

Petracca may well be the best player in the draft but he may not be the best bet.

Saints may just be looking at the whole package of their first three picks and the sum of the parts may be better served without Petracca.

If the worst case scenario for getting mids at 21 and 22 is ANB and Lamb then we will be fine.

Maybe just maybe the club knows more then all the "experts" on here. Gotta laugh people saying they'll walk away from club if pick a player over another one. Seriously, it's one bloody player. For most of season McCartin was clear number one then all sudden everyone was on Petrecca bandwagon. Bet 99% of people have never seen either play a single game.
Who on here claimed to be an expert?

If we go McCartin and also snag something like Duggan and Ellis or Lamb, and one of Webb/Lonie/Nielson with the remaining picks I'd be pretty damn happy...

Also, McCartin into #4 surely?

I caught most of it, but not the start. Is it based on word or a certain amount of guessing?

Thought Petracca tested well for the style of player (and level of development left) that he is.

Did McCartin test at all?

Riewoldt 'Saints will take the best available regardless of position'

Give him a high number then can take over 12 in a few years.

This is absolutely disastrous.

Trust the club?

Stuff that. I have been trusting this bust of a club all my life.

Seems like they got rid of Pelchan because he had brains and didn't fit the profile of being an incompetent idiot down at Seaford.

Absolute ****ing disaster.

Lol calm the s%#$ down. The club actually knows these players instead of the general public watching a 3 minute video and making up their mind

yeahhh ok! who would you go with mate :)

Agree. I thought you were just taking the Mickey while everyone is still raw!!

If not one of the top 15 or so slides, next best for me would be the likes of Ellis, Garlett, R McKenzie or Marchbank. Then a group including ANB, Blakely, Lamb.

He was short of a gallop at the Champs, and overweight, but you could still tell Paddy was a very talented lad.

Sure, Petracca/McKenzie is still vastly my preference, but it's hardly a disaster.

I'll just sit here and pray for an extra 2cms to come his way... ;)

Calm down mate. Nothing is set in stone yet. What does 3AW know?

What is happening I actually agree with you :O

Jesus imagine taking Paddy and Reece with our first two selections. The positive is both could be ambassadors for Jenny Craig in a few years. Why don't we rookie Darren Jarman while we are at it?
