So geelong taking harry taylor with pick 17 in 2007 or whatever wasnt worth it..?
Probably only won them 2 grand finals.. But if you think pick 17 is too much.. Fair enough
its not the norm to draft mature agers with first round picks. the last one was what 7 years ago? and if you look at that particular draft it wasnt a very strong one. they obviously didnt see anything better out there.
normally mature agers are second round picks, pre season or rookie picks
it was a surprise he was taken at 17

Dean Towers is the last one to go quite high from memory.

I'm super high on wright, for a guy that big that can move as well as he can and has excellent hands, I think he could be a big thing at the next level. Could be an upgrade over Day potentially?

He gets beaten in contested situations far too often by smaller guys for mine. Has no mongrel.

Also, Wright is a 4-5 year development proposition before he will perform at AFL level. Which isn't a bad thing but I can't see him replacing anyone especially not Day in the near future.

After some reading and watching highlights like most of us, I would be happy with the following:

Pick 8 - Wright - Giant tall with accurate kick (let him develop in the 2's),
- DeGoey - Big bodied inside mid could use another on the list
- Duggan - fills a number of roles, supreme kick and great tackler
(if passed on 1st preference would be Pickett or Laverde)

Pick 15 - Cockatoo - raw talent utility with development upside
- Langford - Utility + development upside

Pick 29 - Garlett outside run + x factor
- Connor Blakely Inside mid

If not wright, then a key position player but I think Wright has all the attributes to become a dominant force at afl level, and pick 8 would be a steal.

He doesnt need to break into the team straight away, our best 22 looks very, very strong and there's not 1 draftee that in my opinion would slot straight into our line up.

Rory was great in 2013, May was excellent this year but too much is depending on these 2 staying fit and playing well. Durdin/Goddard/Lever/Wright are the 4 that I would want at pick 8.

This sounds outrageous but I would almost take Caleb Daniel with pick 29. Or if he is available, pick 66 (if we have room). Really want him to be in the AFL system and even more so at the Suns.

Could be a point of difference..
A Ablett dwarf down in the forward pocket..
Couldnt really be a bad thing.. We dont really need more mids i spose..
Best avail at 8, KPP at 15 and abletts dwarf at 29?
Not really fussed anymore, Were going to tear the AFL a new hole next yr beating everyone!!

I actually think Daniel is too good to project long term as a forward. The kid has ridiculous athleticism and ability to hit targets under pressure. His disposal is elite. I would be over the moon to take him and watch him prove his doubters wrong. He will prove a lot of people wrong.

What is everyone's thoughts on Day? Super talented by doesn't seem to have the mental ability to play at the top level just of yet. Would you back in Day to take his spot in the team or would you draft Wright and let those two fight it out?

We still need to find a smart lead up forward (would have liked to see Stanley play that role more), a KPD and possibly another inside bull if Lonergan doesn't work out.

Pick 8 Lever/Durdin
Pick 15 Lamb/Langford/Weller
Pick 26 Neal-Bullen/Maynard

My gut says Day is going to be a dud. He has his moments of greatness, but he has too many hopeless games for him to be worth his spot. I HOPE that Rocket beats the lazy out of Day and turns him into a superstar, but I honestly doubt it. I'd prefer to draft a young forward and mould him into the role - at least it'll give Day some much needed motivation, because at the moment he's really our only option.

i reckon you're right with day. wouldn't say we need to find a replacement for him though. hope we're looking at drafting a ruckman though, not first pick but.
he just needs to get some confidence, find a position that suits him. he's done alright in the ruck occasionally. hoping it's his break out year this year, but KPP's always take a while to develop that old-man strength needed to effectively win most marking contests. :P

i say best available at 8, forward flanker at 15, and ruckman at 26.

What ruckman are you shooting for with 29? I like preuss but in the rookie draft.

Day's best is unreal. Would love to see him played purely as a forward. Has kicked some good bags when he has had the opportunity. Certainly worth persisting with. Most teams would kill to have him.

Supporters here criminally take his talent and versatility for granted. He has some flaws but I cannot wait to see what Rocket can do. I am still on the Day train. Then I can laugh at all you guys writing him off when he comes good :)
