I think the AFL really missed a trick by not having any kind of preseason cup on the line. Even if it was just as esoteric as having the two top sides (on wins/percentage) play off for some money and a bit of silverware, it would create some interest in the games, rather than just a meaningless procession of pointless matches.

I think even if a cup was available it would still be viewed as meaningless as well.

Something important needs to be attached to this competition, something that makes Clubs want to participate and win.

Do the top 4 teams have points attached to it, the winner gets 4 points, the runners up 3 etc???

Maybe bottom 8 Clubs get a weighting for points should they get through to the semi's.

The draw is already compromised, adding another variable is not going to change anything.

I am not sure just putting it out there.

However, the one common theme that is expressed in almost every gameday thread I read, supporters would rather there team lose by 10 goals than win and lose a player for a couple of weeks. ie. Winning is irrelevant as long as no players get injured.

So we've got Essendon vs Port in the NAB Challenge at Etihad Stadium tonight. Port seem to have loaded up on their stars, and Essendon going in with a strong team too, including Chapman.

Don't know whether it's my strong hatred for Port, but I sense Port will be beaten comfortably tonight. Essendon will want to make up for last week.

They're looking terrible so far, Bombers completely dominating them.

EDIT: stupid tackle by Baguley after Westhoff kicked a goal gave him a free kick and another goal in the square. Only down by 2 goals now.

4th to 15th is going to be anyone.

Swans, Freo and hawks speak for them self as top 3 and Lions, Giants, Dees and Saints down the bottom.

The rest are so even this year. Too hard.
Don't think the Swans are even a monty for top 4. They are a monty for the 8, top 4 not so much.

Polec is a good player when on the park (which has been rare so far), don't think any Crows supporter ever denied that. He didn't just lose the talent he had as a junior overnight, playing close to a full season is when he can be judged.

Did it say if he had any AFL accreditation?

If he didn't, why the hell are Port granting any interview. If he doesn't need it, why is the guy imposing as a sky reporter.

Just really odd all round.

polec 16 touches at 100% effiency

MOD UPDATE: blatant trolls get banned.

cmon one innings doesnt make a summer or a career

surely you would want a big year from Polec before you claim success

I actually found it amusing that your board was having a bonner over Polec last week and he only got 21 touches, even Matty Jaensch had more touches than Polec last week
