When comparing guys around the 190 mark and the 198-200 mark this is a fair point, by an extra 2-3 cms on the lead is literally meaningless
Could keep arguing the point but time to move on; you have your views and I have mine so we will not change each others' thinking. We have no doubt bored everyone else so need to get this trhead back on track.

My tip is he'll end up a very good AFL player. Sticky hands, good kick, fast on the lead.

I'd seriously question this.

Admittedly, I'm looking from the outside, not as a Saints or Melbourne supporter, but it looks pretty obvious that in terms of impact on games Petracca is miles ahead of Billings at the same point in their careers. I don't actually support the view that Billings is affected by Bontempelli's success, I just think he's underperformed considering his talent.

Billings won a game off his boot in his second season, Petracca hasn't done that yet, albeit having done a knee

But people will argue the toss either way

Petracca was the reason we beat Collingwood on Monday. He got us back in the game.

Both coaches gave him 5 votes, so they both seemingly found him the most influential player on the ground.

In a 4 point game when you're down by 28 in the second I call that being a "matchwinner".

Yes, but he literally did nothing worth note apart from that game within his first three seasons. Having only played one-and-a-half seasons, I could safely say that Petracca has shown more matchwinning capabilities than Billings.

That's not to say that Billings won't be a gun. He will. But he will never be in that top echelon of players that Petracca will probably be in.

You seriously need to watch more games if you think Billings isn't in the elite category for young players. Incredibly damaging by foot and is certainly a match winner. Has had a much better season than Bont this year too.

Billings is certainly improving...looking more confident and match fit this year.

Always had a nice kick on him but displaying it more regularly now.

I feel like this is the Boyd thread mark 2. All the Boyd naysayers have a big smelly turd on their faces now and they probably will again.

Tom Boyd has a premiership medal and stood up on the biggest of days.

That said, he's had an ordinary career to date and is back to his ordinary best.

He could be ordinary for the next 10 years and Bulldogs supporters will point to 2016. That doesn't cut it for me, but fair enough if it's all that matters to you.

No, he's one of our most important players. Been fantastic this year and getting better.
Dohhh... got dragged into a Boyd argument again

I hardly think an average of 11 disposals, 2.5 marks, 18 hitouts as well as 6 goals from 10 games constitutes being "fantastic".

Unlike, of course, you're exceptionally easily pleased.

So premierships & standing up on the biggest day of them all 'doesn't cut it for you' ?

Obviously premierships don't matter over at Melbourne.

No.

If he is ordinary for the next 10 years I won't say he was a good player off one very good performance in a grand final.

Did you not watch QB?

Thank God GWS came along and prevented us from having the top pick in 2013, the humiliation of drafting Boyd there would have killed the MFC

After the disasters you've inflicted on your supporters, it wouldn't have rated a mention.
Other than Toumpas we've really just been unlucky with top picks - Watts, Hogan, Oliver, and Petracca are stars, Scully is a star somewhere else, and Brayshaw and Trengove have been cooked by injuries. Boyd would easily have been our worst.

Went out to dinner with a St Kilda staff member last night.

Said McCartin will never be able to get into AFL shape in the true sense of the word.

His Type 1 diabetes means it's too dangerous to shed off all of his weight and he simply can't operate like a normal AFL athlete.

Sorry to sound rude & i'm not at all implying he didn't say that to u at all ! But shedding weight for him wouldn't be dangerous at all , the condition does put u a little behind the 8 ball butt shedding a little weight would not be an issue at all

Watts is a good player now. I'm one of his biggest fans, but he's not a star.
but in any case, shall we really have a Melbourne drafting discussion? I'm not sure that's in anyone's interests. But yes, your drafting over the last 2-3 years has been good. Up til then it was, frankly, abysmal.

Watts is a star, without doubt. Was our best on ground today until he went and injured himself.

Wayne Carey rated him B+ last week. Not many stars are B+. Having said that, I love his talent. He just lacks application.
Wayne Carey says a lot of things, it doesn't make them true. Watts is on track for a 40 goal season averaging almost 20 disposals a game, and that's despite a handful of quiet games when we've played lesser sides. He's not consistent enough but his best is up there with any other forward
