I remember hearing on this board that we were interested in Sam Bevan at some point. He'd be a good pick up - raw talent.
Someone said actual interest or he would be a good fit?

I would probably prefer him over Keitel, Bevan gets up the ground more and is a lovely set shot

Just out of interest and to add to the discussion, in his phantom rookie draft Snoop Dog had us taking Mitch Brown, Adam Marcon, Zac Ballard and Darren Shillabeer.

Obviously didn't take into account the commitment to Daniel Pearce and also doesn't include people he had going in the main draft such as Keitel, Eddy, etc. but just throws a couple more ideas out there.

Out of curiosity, how many players are we eligible to draft through the Pre season draft, and how many in the Rookie and does anybody have any info on weither we will re draft players in Pearce and co again as rookies?

We should get Nick Rippon. 17 clubs are gonna look foolish when he gets picked up and kills it.. don't understand how someone who dominates every level they play keeps getting overlooked.

FWIU ... no pre-season draft picks. 4 rookie picks (Austin, Greenwood delisted, Jong and Redpath upgraded). Pearce certain to be rookied. Goodes and Greenwood a chance as well. There will definitely be 1 new player to the list, most probably 2, as I'm guessing either Goodes or Greenwood will be put back on the rookie list.

Agree I think Goodes or Greenwood could be retained. Maybe both. Are we definitely keeping
Pearce? I would have thought he's less likely now considering the types we drafted.

I think we will keep Greenwood and Goodes and take 2 KP types. Possibly a KP forward and back.

I think Keitel, Hammleman, Eddy, Bevan, Payne, Hartley, Mclaren look good to me.

People will rightly question why would we keep Greenwood and Goodes, I think Goodes offers us some insurance because we are a very young team now, if we get injuries, he's able to come in and play a variety of roles. Greenwood is an inside mid who is starting to emerge. Again a few injuries and he's in the mix. But again wouldn't suprise if we kept neither but instead go for a mature age guy a marcon, Cain type. I like Billy Evans as an 18 year old.

I believe so ... off the SrS list, but told he'd be re-drafted as a rookie.

ok....so in that case I can't see us keeping both Goodes and Greenwood. Although I wonder how much thinking goes into a clubs limited development resources available when you think about a young list, loads of kids and now 5 more plus another possible 3 on the rookie list. Perhaps it's good year to stick with guys who have already had a lot put into them, focus on the new young kids and the 2nd and 3rd year guys. I'm not sure.

We should get at least 1 KP rookie. Makes sense. The debate is what is the rookie list for I guess. No point keeping a guy on you list who you know or feel can't make it so Pearce and Greenwood may fall into that category. Goodes for mine is insurance, certainly playing well enough to stay on a list, but clearly not a long term prospect.

So Pearce, Goodes, Eddy and Mclaren.....bit of everything there. Mature age kid with a few years already in him with some potential, mature body insurance, Mature age KP forward, and a raw KP defender prospect. The Eddy spot could go to Billy Evans, or another KP in Hartley/Keitel/Hammleman/Payne. Or to a mature age mid 22 to 26 like Marcon or Cain. Really like Hartley. 21 years old, 198cm, decent skills and good mark

Be interesting to see what we do.

Goodes would be a total waste. If we wanted a mature player I'd rather take Lower. I really hope neither of Greenwood or Goodes get picked up by us again.

I hope that they're just training with us so they can get a headstart on training for Footscray this year and AFL.com just put two and two together and got five by guessing that we were planning on rookieing them.

I would love us to pick 4 big boys as rookies
Show some faith in our listed mid fielders there is enough there: liber, boyd, macrae, Bonti, Dahl, smith, Wallis, stringer, hrovat, hunter, jong, Picken, Honeychurch and Daniel,

There is a lot there, but remember some of those guys are in just 2nd and 3rd years and then we have the first year kids. We have to be careful on the load with these guys so immature. Very young list, a mature rookie makes sense to me to come in a carry some load if needed. Whether that is Goodes or Lower or someone from outside who knows. Goodes works for me because he's still playing great footy and could play anywhere.

Couple of big guys makes sense to me also.

After the main draft i will refrain from any predictions for the
rookie draft, i have done a left over list which contains some
145 players of which 40 are classified as ruck, tall back or
tall forward. This list does not contain de-listed players.

Care to put the list up?
