not necessarily a bad thing, I was more highlighting the fact that he uses the ball pretty well for a taller bloke
and Zaine probably still has some growing left to
it's a good thing. Most people think he's just going to play on a third tall, but if Hamling is KP size and most think he is, then Zaine is too. He will fill out too.

I still think we could do with rookie-ing one (KPD) , we have been pretty fortunate with getting some very good players from it

there a few I like, but I can see reasons why the club might overlook them

such as Christian Buykx-Smith, he is an agile KPD who uses the ball well & clean below his knees; but only played the 8 games this year
because of stress fractures he had in his back (I believe)

since we would have been following Webb at Gippsland Power, our scouts have probably got a good look at Buykx-Smith

it's not a bad idea to have a bit of maturity on the list. We have lost a lot. Aside from Matty Boyd, Picken, Murph, Minson, Morris perhaps Wood we are light on for hardened bodies and mature heads. Very very young list and if you have seen anything of the latest young fellas who all look about 12 then there will be little relief there.

All for giving our kids experience, exposure and responsibility but not at the expense of there long term careers. I would like to see one mature age mid on the rookie list and Goodes is extremely capable and can play multiple roles. I know he's not the future, but it's not what he's on the list for and never has been.

I appreciate that, but Goodes repeatedly butchered the ball and panics at AFL level. If we are going to pick up a mature body, I would rather go for Brad Sewell.

After looking at the rookies available, having looked at a few more options I think we might go this way. I doubt we will pick up any more mid size players other than Pearce and Goodes.

Hartley 198cm mature age KP defender.
Eddy 25 year old KP forward (good agility could play CHF)
Brett Goodes (Pure mid size insurance)
Daniel Pearce

Eddy at 25 is ready to go, and I guess it will be a case of do we grab someone like that or bring in a youngster who needs more development.

I think in the mix will be.

Christian Buykx-Smith 193cm KP def/forward (very agile)
Rowan Marshall 198cm ruck/forward (very agile)
Sean McLaren 197cm ruck/forward/Defender (very agile)

I really like the 3 above and if we don't take Goodes or Eddy and can't get Hartley or another mature mid then I will not be upset to get one of these guys instead. Certainly will add some height and versatility to our big man stocks, they all look to have really good skills and the ability to mark. They will need time to build their bodies and so makes them ideal for the rookie list.

I also like

Payne KP forward
Keitel KP forward/defender

I like the sound of McLaren on paper. If we took him, Eddy and a mature mid like a Goodes or Marcon I'd be satisfied.

Anyone got any insider Goss on what we may be doing tomorrow? I'm happy to go with 1 mature body, but I think we need a young tall forward and a tall defender with the other 2 picks

Think we like Marcon as a mature mid. Not sure on who in the talls we'd look at maybe Payne & or Ramsey/Kietel. Dark horses for one of our picks is Billy Evans and Taylor Grace, both are mature bodies and fit our recent recruiting models of the past few seasons.

I'd personally like to have Goodes back on the rookie list. He's very good insurance and considering the age of our list, I think he'll be pretty important. What happens if Libba or Bont or Boyd go down with injury? We need players who are ready to go and our recent draftee's aren't up to that level. I'll support giving him a rookie list spot.

Retaining gooses is a retrograde step

Goodes was our best VFL player last year with Campbell. Both should have played a lot more AFL than they did. I can see the point in keeping Goodes as we do lack maturity and leadership in our group and he is a good player. I can't say the same about Greenwood and Pearce. For me, I'd delist them all but if we did keep 1, Goodes makes the most sense to me as I believe none will be playing AFL in 2016 anyway.

Are the Footscray listed guys currently training at Whitten Oval?
If so, would Greenwood and Goodes possibly be getting permission to train with us so that they could be considered for a VFL-listed spot, rather than an AFL-rookie-listed spot?

Media have obviously linked off-list guys that are training with clubs currently as possible pick ups tomorrow in the rookie draft. Could this just be lazy 'journalism' when the real truth is related to our Footscray list?

Yep, they came back last week or the week before IIRC. So I'm holding out hope that they're just training to get a headstart for the VFL next year.

Is it bad form for opposition clubs to take a rookie that had been promised a spot on anothers list?

Tanner Smith :p

None whatsoever IMO. Melbourne were stupid to think they had dibs on him just cause he was training there. I loved what Freo did. (this was the guy who was training at melbourne and pulled off the training oval when he was drafted to freo ?)

Its why I wouldnt be totally against recruiting Shaun McKernan.
Covers ruck and Key Forward positions and in my opinion has shown every bit as much as Ayce has at the highest level.
Just cause he is training at Saints wouldnt detract me from taking him.
