With all due respects to goodes
We don't require him filling a spot on the rookie list

Last year the young on ballers carried the load adequately and with another year in the system they simply have to pick up

Retaining gooses is a retrograde step

Last year we had Griffen, Cooney, Gia and Higgins.

Yes that is a fair point.
But lets be serious - we are not going to challenge for finals this year and can only benefit from getting games into youth.
Whether or not there is significant experience around them doesnt bother me.

Maybe the bigger concern is bigger bodied mids to take the battering - but doest seem the club care too much about that after our initial drafting so far.
IMO we will finish bottom 4 with or without Goodes - so given that fact Id say go with and develop youth in his place.

None whatsoever IMO. Melbourne were stupid to think they had dibs on him just cause he was training there. I loved what Freo did. (this was the guy who was training at melbourne and pulled off the training oval when he was drafted to freo ?)

Its why I wouldnt be totally against recruiting Shaun McKernan.
Covers ruck and Key Forward positions and in my opinion has shown every bit as much as Ayce has at the highest level.
Just cause he is training at Saints wouldnt detract me from taking him.

Plus St Kilda have eight players on their permission to train list, can't draft them all

Is it bad form for opposition clubs to take a rookie that had been promised a spot on anothers list?

Tanner Smith :p
He cannot be a huge priority for Freo as i think they have put their eggs
in the Alex Pearce basket, a 15.5 beep and 10.06 3km time trial no wonder
not bad for a 198 cm KPD. Tanner Smith is easily better than any of the
KPD's being discussed on this thread.

Why re-rookie Goodes when we could take a ready made 19yo midfielder like Grace and with development could be the next boyd (better skills though) to come off the rookie list? Would be disappointed if we did only has a year left at the most and any kid we take could have ten makes no sense

Evans would be better ;) or Bampton, if we want more Adealide boys

Yeah but who would be around late in this rookie draft worth a shot? I'm talking about a latish pick. Grace averages 31 disposals at the TAC Cup level and had a 26 disposal game against Geelong in the VFL and could come on very quickly if he is there at our third pick why not take the risk if no decent KPP or Rucks are about?

eh, I just think he is 'vanilla'
not a Dal pick at all :p

I have some concern - but we have Morris & Murphy in defence, Boyd and the AA Libba in the middle, Crammers will be 27 this year and we are changing our forward structure anyway by having a genuine gun KPF for the first time since Hall's retirement plan - I'm not sure lining Goodes up on the HBF with stints in the middle offers us much on-field guidance.

I would prefer one more veteran in the middle but Goodes - who I rate off the field - rarely played in the middle last year.
A mature bodied genuine mid state leaguer would provide better value.

Goodes would not be on the list because he's the future, it would purely be to have a mature body about to handle the load should we get injuries. I am not saying we must keep Goodes on the rookie list, though it makes some sense. You only have to look at GWS, GC and Melbourne who soon realised they needed more mature players to help a younger list.

It is the rookie draft so you better get use to some pretty vanilla players and golden players disguised as vanilla.
I think he could be a good AFL player dispite being a little bit vanilla you can't teach a player how to win the footy like he can.

well, if he can be a good player
I'd rather him at the Bulldogs, then anywhere else

still don't think he is a Dal pick, Payne on the other hand... ;)

Yeah Payne is more likely, maybe Billy Myers or one of those oakleigh mids (Answorth?) later too there's a few that should get a look in I just hope we go and get the best talent we can in the areas we need to improve.

At the moment I've got a good hit rate for drafts and players I like from the 18's so hopefully I can continue my form and then if people want to know who dally is going to pick just look at the TAC Cup players I ramble on about for half a season :P

Panos for a second crack.?

Pity we couldn't lure N Krakouer across the border. Some REAL outside speed and goal sense.

Off files issues would be a problem

If we rookie Greenwood, Pearce and Goodes ... this highlights that the recruiters don't rate who is left in the talent pool. At least with the 3 for-mentioned players, there is cover for injuries at senior level. This will be important with such a young list, instead of throwing McClean, Webb, Hamilton, Dale and Daniel to the wolves early.

Surely we have enough cover? Hunter, Darley, Wood, Hrovat, Grant, Jong, Dickson, even Clay Smith. Thats 8 mature bodied players who only played a handful of games for us last year who will be chomping at the bit to play and are as good or better than Goodes or Greenwood.

for me, please I hope we dont re draft Goodes because he wont make a difference to our teams chances between winning or losing, or wont make a difference between making finals or not making because I beleive we will be a bottem 6 team next year.

Id rather replace goods with Billy Evans and select another KPP and ruckman along with Pearce
