A serious question, do you as supporters of what is a proud club know the direction of the club?
I felt for my club I it was hazy in 12' and 13' but now its taking shape.
Not trying to stir anything up but would love to gauge your thoughts on it.

Only way is up.

Or so we were led to believe.

Please reference an accurate diagram below of the direction we are headed at the moment.

Surely they can't keeping denying it now. Surely the club will get their heads out of the sand & just admit this list is cooked. It peaked in 2011. Admit we stuffed up the Judd era with all our high picks. Admit defeat & start again. It's bloody draining watching this train wreck. Everyone knows where we are but the club. Wake up.

When you love something, you give it the power to hurt you. Sigh. I love the Blues. They're hurting me right now, very much. I *really* hope you're right and we accept reality, take our medicine and make the changes to our attitude needed to improve.

Who on our list right now will form the leadership core of the next team? Murph, Hendo, Menzel... After that it gets murky.

Let's face it: to rebuild this list, we need to bring in leaders. They don't just grow on trees. Port were smart in drafting Wingard, Wines, Boak, and guys of that ilk. We need to start thinking like that. Even a few older ex premiership types would be useful, just as teachers/trainers out on the ground while the kids learn. We need Judd back in the side ASAP. Draft big strong midfielders and bring in some kpf through trading. Then add some leaders, maybe a Chapman type or a Bolton or someone like that for a year or two as a playing coach. Because is there is not much leadership on the ground at the moment.

Is it most alarming how poor our recruiting has been in the last 10 years?
We just haven't drafted the right players at all!
Not to give it to the guy, but Bootsma probably wouldn't have been drafted if we didn't take him, yet we used our first pick on him. McCarthy, Mitchell, Kerr, Bower the list goes on.
Every (note:most) team seems to pick up gems or decent players, Kyle Hardingham kicked 3 goals last night and he was a 7th pick from the pre-season draft!!

In Bower's defense he was looking great prior to injury and mismanagement by the club....

Great minds think alike. :)

But seriously. Is one of the most damaging players in the team once near the forward 50. Once Docherty cements a spot, would love to see Tuohy playing as a high half forward.

Well he wouldn't need to get much of the ball to do some damage. Looks to be struggling in defence a bit at the moment (that's understandable). Seems to always be in the right position to recieve the ball on the run when near the forward line, he may actually chase and put pressure on, unlike the rest of our forwards. I wonder what position he played in Gaelic.

Yeah, it's a combination, I think.

Drafting has been poor and then compounded by mismanagement of players and injuries and a policy of wallpapering over cracks instead of fixing the foundations.

I'd place us in the bottom three sides for list management over the past seven years. It's all come home to roost, but at least people are taking off their blue tinted glasses and accepting the truth.

Wait for the point this season we win three games in a row (it will happen) and everyone starts talking us up again and saying that we only need a key forward to be top four material.

Have known this list isn't top 4 quality for a while, thought maybe we'd sneak into the 8 this year, it seems we are a bit lower than I had suspected. Think we might be able to play some good footy when we get a full team out there but even so we are nothing special.

To put it in perspective we are about where you guys were in around 2004. You'd just come off the back of a successful era and had the remnants of an older team that was no longer up to it (this is us now), heaps of good old players retired over the next few years while you guys floundered down the bottom with a young team and drafted your arses off for a few seasons. I think there is a chance we may need some more time to build but all in all this is where we are at.

What concerns me is that important people may not realise this. If the board or who ever starts blaming the coach and he gets the sack then we are in enormous trouble. It will kill us. Whether or not Mick decides to rebuild or not is a different story. Mick will never use the word rebuild, he will just dump a heap of players at the end of the season get active at trade period and give our recruiter heaps of ammo at the draft ;).

We have a small group of capable young players to kick of a rebuilding phase, it just seems like the right thing to do.

My biggest frustration is the club still seems to take shortcuts to success that just don't work in the modern era.

Drafting a top up player (admittedly a gun) in Daisy Thomas speaks volumes for how delusional the club is about its prospects.

We are miles off.

There are no shortcuts. Off field too needs substantial changes, it feels like there is a massive disconnect between the power brokers and the supporters. A fish rots from the head, the club is not healthy at the moment.

The recruiting and the subsequent development at this club has been nothing short of disgraceful for the best part of 10 years.

Our top picks haven't delivered, Murphy is nothing withoud Judd doing the heavy lifting for him, he looks scared and timid without him, Gibbs is a big disappointment and doesn't do enough, if he wants to take the money good luck to him, it'd be like winning the lottery and he is not worth anywhere near 700k let alone the 500k we are probably already paying him.

Kruezer is injury prone which is just unlucky, Yarran at 6 is too inconsistent, Walker at 2 has had 1-2 good years and looks out of it, not enough reward. That's 5 our so called good players, top line picks that just have not delivered consistently enough, and they are all as soft as butter nice boys.

There are a handful of players on our list that I say have been good pick ups and have given every ounce of energy to the cause, Judd, Simpson, Scotland, Henderson and Carrazzo.

4 of those players are now at the end of the road and not one of the pre mentioned 5 is interested or capable in filling the void, not one of them. Mental application is the reason for most of it, which is inherent in their personalities, deep down these supposed gun recruits of the last 7 years don't give a stuff, apart from MK.

Then much of the support staff around these guys is Z grade standard. Bell, Robinson, Ellard, White, Rowe, Casboult are barely VFL standard footballers, skills and decision making of all of these players is so far below AFL standard it is not a joke, it is actually sad that we have recruited these players, none of these them would get a game in any top 12 side. FACT! They all must go and now, back to the VFL for the rest of the season and then gone. Play kids, play anyone, I don't want to see any of these players in the seniors.

2E, Garlett, I'm not sure what has happened, Everitt and Thomas too early to tell, Daisy is short of a gallop but we know he is capable. Warnock 206cm of shit, can't do anything apart from tap to the opposition midfield.

We are in a diabolical mess. Clean the place out, put the primadonas on notice, everyone apart from Henderson should be on the table in order to get a forward such as Patton to the club, everyone, if GWS wanted Yarran and Murphy for Patton i'd do it in a heartbeat. Doubt he'd want to come we are that far behind them it's not funny.

The list is done, it's cooked and we are as far away from success now as we were in 2006 plain and simple. Too many pansies taken in the top 10 and the support we've recruited around them is the worst in the AFL. The time is now to fix this and if they don't take this path from now and play kids such as Menzel, Cripps, Graham and Watson for the rest of the year in place of the spuds I'm keeping the $850 i spent on my captains club membership in my pocket next year, they can get stuffed. The fish rots at the head and it's time for everyone to have a good hard look at our recruitment and development and take responsibility and put measures in place to fix it.

Could not care if we lose to Melbourne next week that's how fed up I am.

Getting a forward isn't going to solve our problem.
yes but it will solve one problem and its one problem that has been on going for how many years now? fix it once and for all and then we wont have to have this discussion year after year.

its a lot easier to draft midfielders than quality KPP. get it done

Wow, I strongly disagree that Walker has only had 1-2 good years. He has been one of the only players to show integrity week in and week out (When not suspended, of course)

I don't understand why Walker hasn't had an extended run through the midfield. Always seems to be a half back or half forward.

Well there was last year and 2011 in the forward line. Not sure anything else would be considered an abover average year.

This is why we need to draft Jake Lever this year. He is a 192cm defender who would most likely be third tall at AFL level (i know we have 1 million), and his leadership skills are excellent. He is a captain in waiting, he captained U18 Vic Metro in a game last year as a bottom age player. The kind of leadership we need.

This is only if Gibbs goes, cause we definately need a key forward with out first pick

Now we're drafting for captaincy needs? We NEED KPP - the end.

Players that are 20-25 is where our improvement should be coming from, but if you break down our players in this age bracket it isn't pretty.

25 years old
Ellard
Everitt
Garlett
Gibbs
Kruezar
Robinson
Tuohy
White

Kruezar & Gibbs still potential but are solid enough players yet still disappoint considering there draft selection, Garlett and Everitt get pass marks, the rest of them if they are in our side we will never be a top 4 team.

24 years
Casboult
Curnow
Henderson

24 years
Hendersen is a star and Curnow solid, If Casboult doesn't show more very soon I think he should go

23 years
Lucas
Sheehan
Yarran

Yaz can be amazing but doesn't do it often enough, too early to call on the Irishman, Lucas is not good enough

22
Bell
Cachia
McInnes

None are currently AFL standard

21
Bootsma
Buckley
Watson

Buckley looks great, the other 2 the jury is still out but looking more and more pessimistic towards them.

20
Docherty
Teemay

Both should be given an opportunity to prove themselves, but would want to make an impact fairly quickly.
