Cripps, Anderson, Hardisty, Bevan would be the only others, but it's a long shot. I'd have McGovern and Abbott in that group too.

McGovern will defs be picked up interviewed by a few teams will be 3rd round- rookie and Abbott will get picked up by the eagles or not at all IMO

Wasn't considering the rookie draft, probably more would be a chance of getting picked up there, including the mature agers.

Eagles first rookie pick worthy?
I would certainly consider it has a lot of traits we are missing but being a mature aged player and given his past history counts against him.
Would go with Abbott if avaible at our fist rookie pick

Pickett, Blakely, Garlett, Kietel, Smith, Abbott, McGovern, Waterman All likely to get picked up but I think you have a valid point

Abbott is a late/ rookie pick i think.

I think you can just about cross off Hardisty from that list and add Deluca.

I'm a massive fan of Cripps, has a lot of the tools to make it. Would be disappointing if he missed out.

Surely frampton is some sort of chance after going to the national combine?

Watched this game, was good fun as Swans led but then the Sharks came back and did a "Port" in the last quarter to win the match easily.

Blakely didn't look out of place in the league team. 11 touches in the first half but he took a knock before the break and wasn't the same since. Finished with 18 all up. Once he bulks up and gets a tank he should figure in an AFL team's midfield. Definitely an early 2nd Round pick at the moment. Incidentally his brother Nathan had a good game too, lots of possession, most off his own ruckwork. Only 22.

Cary meanwhile kicked 5 as well as hitting the post. Has a very good mark on him and showed versatility by going back occasionally. Definitely helped his chances of being rookied.

Didn't see much of Howard, couldn't get eyes on him all the time. Not sure who his direct opponent was but the little I did see he had no effect. The Swans defence was terrible after HT.

I think Cary an interesting one and I wonder if Gunston helps his case. Plays a similar way to him for mine and I just think that roaming fwd who plays tall and is clever might be one that gets rookied. I have him as one of the more likely WAFL guys to be drafted but to be fair I think a few would have to be on the radar. Howard is one, Yarran a must, Nelson must be looked at again and am a real fan of Black. SChloithe would have to be in mix again wouldn't he?

Overage, very very big key forward who moved to South Fremantle for a game this season. Has been a fairly prolific goalkicker all season, but I don't see him being drafted.
What makes you say that?

Because he simply isn't as dominant as his goal kicking tally makes him out to be. In the games I have watched him play, he was often left one out on defenders who would be a good 15cm shorter and much less physically developed yet they managed to quell his influence. He's not overly agile or athletic and despite a substantial size advantage he is surprisingly ineffective in the ruck.

There are positives - he's generally a lovely kick of the footy being one of the few players going around in the colts who you would expect to make the distance from a 50m set shot. He's also very vocal out on the field - can tell he is thought of as a leader. But for an overage guy playing in the colts with considerable size on everyone (and can only really play one position) he's just not that dominant.

Pretty comprehensive that. Ta.

a really good article on three subi boys. featuring not only deluca who i keep banging on about but also george hampson who i have been talking up for 3 years now. i still cant believe he hasnt been given a chance. if he can beat eagles listed players and kick two match winning goals with a grade 1 hamstring pulled at half time and a torn quad then you have to sit back and wonder what he'd do when fit:

CLASSY midfielder Josh Deluca all but sealed an AFL career with a scintillating WAFL Grand Final as Subiaco pulled off an upset win over hot favourites East Perth this year.

If the clever left-footer hadn’t already been looming large, he was after 20 possessions and a goal in a near flawless display of clean disposal in wet and slippery conditions.

“He’d be a good draft choice. It depends what recruiters are looking for tough, but he’s of good character and he’s got genuine speed and good agility.

“He’s an all-round package and he demonstrated that in the AFL testing.

“He’s hard at the football and he’s an aggressive type but like all players they can have something they need to keep working on and in Josh’s case it’s his kicking that needs some work.”

Schofield anticipates Deluca to be taken somewhere into the second or third round of selections to be conducted on the Gold Coast on November 27.

“I more think he could be a later choice,” he said.

“His Grand Final with us in only his third ever WAFL final against the AFL alignment side, definitely shows that he can match it with the best.”

Schofield says he has other draft hopefuls on his books.

AFL scouts have made inquiries on Deluca’s older brother Chris as well and rangy mature-age goal opportunist forward Shane Yarran.

“Chris is a similar type of player to josh, but probably more explosive and more powerful and he’s had a really consistent year and Shane Yarran has had a really consistent year,” Schofield said.

Colts and WA under-18s Adam Creeper is also understood to have highly impressed talent scouts on the hunt for versatile big men.

Hard nut half-forward George Hampson is another borderline Lions draft chance after his 37 goals from 19 senior games.

Hampson, 24, won recognition from scouts with a courageous Grand Final outing when he suffered recurrence of a hamstring injury after booting a lively early goal and returned to boot another two majors as one of the Lions best in a 16-point win.

“The recruiters bring up his name and there’s a bit of “X” factor about him and he can kick goals, he’s proven he can play back and half-forward, but he probably needs to get physically stronger to go to the next level,” Schofield said.

“Adam Creeper is an exciting type and with our colts played in the ruck but then with the state 18s he played centre-half-back.

“He’s got good speed and vertical jump with a good head on his shoulders as a kid who is continuing to learn the game.”
