2014 Western Australian Draft Prospects

Overage, very very big key forward who moved to South Fremantle for a game this season. Has been a fairly prolific goalkicker all season, but I don't see him being drafted.

Keitel dominant this morning with 8 goals in an utter thrashing down at Peel. Not sure how much to read into that given Peel didn't kick a goal in perfect conditions. Looks like Della Franca dominated the ruck and Dent perhaps injured early going off the stats. Giblett playing reserves again, seemingly not a lot of enthusiasm for him from clubs given he didn't get a combine invite but I really have liked the way he's developed this year.

Callum Ah Chee with a bag of 5, hopefully he can continue to kick on with his good form next year.

anyone know who the bloke is that was playing south freo seniors on friday night. did a couple of 4 bounce runs down the wing to set up some goals.

very quick. bald or short blonde hair

Description sounds like Haiden Schloithe.

Whilst we're talking East Perth, it's good to see a couple of recent colts graduates in Beau Chatley and Julian Ameduri make their debuts on the weekends. Heard that Chatley played especially well, which is good considering the number of AFL listed players involved in the game.

Re Blakley, nearly every club has spoken to him, with a number of clubs said to be very keen.

Expected at this stage to go late first round/early second.

Great information footy man, I think you forget sometimes to look at those colts playing League and Reserves level footy, some great performances there also.
League
Jarrod Pickett
Jarrod Garlett
Josh Deluca
Brad Walsh
Dylan Winton
Aidan Anderson
Conor Blakely

Reserves
Jack Cripps
Lindsay Murray
Nathan Morton-Smith
Brendan Tingey

Just some more names that seem to go unnoticed. Obviously all colts agers ready for the next level.

Having had such good success WA picks for us, Joel Corey, Mitch Duncan, HT, Jared Jansen, are there any more big bodied MF types coming from the region.

Wells has done very well before…

Go Catters

Was Waterman injured during the Champs? I think he's had the tap on the shoulder by West Coast and is sandbagging. Posted some great numbers this year, could easily go in the second round after talk of being a first round selection early, but seems to figure as a third rounder now in phantoms.

Next week is Claremont v South Fremantle, who both have deep lists of prospective draftees so that will be interesting.

Went and watched SF v EP this morning. Was a pretty tough, scrappy type of game with plenty of aggro. Both sides skills lacked a bit, but can probably put that down to finals pressure.

Thought Kade Stewart was extremely good for Souths, just seemed to be always threatening up forward and kicked goals when the team needed them. Looks a very good prospect.

I didn't actually notice Pickett until midway through the second when he kicked a beauty against the run of play and the wind with a four bounce run. He didn't get a lot of it, but when he did he did some remarkable things - caused a goal late in the last through a ridiculous steal off an EP defender, took off and ended up kicking the goal. Dunno if I see him being a top ten pick he's so spasmodic, but the tricks he has are stunning.

Frampton was the most impressive big guy on the ground. SF parents in front of me were bagging him out, but he took some excellent marks, broke even in the ruck contests with Della Franca and kicked a terrific running goal from outside 50 to start the final quarter.

Dragovich was good as usual, Ah Chee pretty quiet and Ah Sui ok. Conditions didn't really suit Loersch so much, but the EP defenders had him covered whenever the ball was down there and he wasn't that influential in the ruck either.

EP were pretty tenacious throughout the day and Souths seemed to resent this, particularly early by responding with some pretty undisciplined moments.

Thought Giblett was excellent at full back, kicking isn't all that reliable but he's a very good defender which when combined with his athleticism I can't see why he didn't get a state combine invite.

Miller was really good in and under, disciplined performance and got forward and kicked a goal.

Keitel had one of those days where everything he did was a disaster. Missed an easy shot which would have put them in front in the last quarter, then gave away a silly 50m penalty. Just wasn't to be his day. When he was down forward the ball just wasn't getting to him so he got moved up the ground, started getting involved but then went quiet again.

Dent got a big knock in the second quarter which I suspect hindered him but still did some noticeably good work. Decke was creative off half back and for a time was on Loersch which is a good effort considering there was about a 15cm height difference.

Watched this game, was good fun as Swans led but then the Sharks came back and did a "Port" in the last quarter to win the match easily.

Blakely didn't look out of place in the league team. 11 touches in the first half but he took a knock before the break and wasn't the same since. Finished with 18 all up. Once he bulks up and gets a tank he should figure in an AFL team's midfield. Definitely an early 2nd Round pick at the moment. Incidentally his brother Nathan had a good game too, lots of possession, most off his own ruckwork. Only 22.

Cary meanwhile kicked 5 as well as hitting the post. Has a very good mark on him and showed versatility by going back occasionally. Definitely helped his chances of being rookied.

Didn't see much of Howard, couldn't get eyes on him all the time. Not sure who his direct opponent was but the little I did see he had no effect. The Swans defence was terrible after HT.

Wasn't just the ridiculous steal, was the fact he was one against three at the time and the goal iced the game.

Shane Yarran performed well at the State Combine aka draft camp:

AFL talent manager Kevin Sheehan judged Yarran, who is a cousin of Carlton's Chris, the standout of a raft of strong performances at yesterday's combine.
Yarran produced a blistering 2.82sec. in the 20m sprint - the second-fastest time this year and equal fifth quickest in draft testing history - watched by recruiters from the 18 clubs at Revolution Sports in Shenton Park.
It continues an extraordinary turnaround for the 25-year-old who was in jail two years ago, then played for South Mandurah last year, before booting 39 goals for the Lions as a key member of their premiership team.
