Not questioning what you've heard HBF
Just saying that there's often more than just one mistake beyond the exposed mistake............may not be for Curnow and it may be the first time he's ever had a little to drink behind the wheel.........but we sort of don't buy that, do we?
Cannot imagine Curnow slipping to #19 because of this, as talent is too high. Will be interesting to see how much this action affects the draft in a PC World

What's interesting is last year there was a huge rumour we'd take Boekhort, maybe not so high but his name was heavily linked to us.

And the year before that we knew Cripss was going to Carlton.

this year though, aside from the obvious Pick 1 and SOSOS no such name is so heavily linked to us. Perhaps the player most linked to us is Harry McKay so maybe he will go to CFC?

Another query I have is - is there a risk Curnow Jnr will be a Master of Nothing type player? Some query his pace as a forward. Some say he doesn't have the tank yet for midfield... just saying ...
I don't think that's going to be an issue with Curnow, although a lot of people will want him to be something he is not.
IMO he'd be the big bustling half forward I wanted Bell to be - but with more footy nous and better overhead.

Harry McKay worries me a bit, I'm cautious of 'versatile talls'. How similar is he to Gorringe?

I think we've all done silly things when we're 18, but it doesn't mean we're bad people. He comes from a very good family. I used to work with a guy who knew the Curnows (through their athletic days) and he said they were great kids.

My list would cover many pages but it still doesn't make it right.

Curnow...........and his 'mates'...........really should have known better............like, a lot better. Seriously.

No way we end up with those 4.
If we managed to snag those 4... at those picks... I don't think that there would be enough lube in the world to keep Carlton supporters from getting friction burns.

Completely different... Harry is a tall forward who, like Casboult, pinch hits in the ruck if needed. Gorringe is a ruck(ruck rover maybe) who can pinch hit as a forward maybe.

The McKays have bolted up almost as far/fast as Oliver has in the past few weeks. I gather they interviewed well - heard them on radio and they were articulate and sounded like they had plenty to offer.

But are they just getting pumped up way too high because they're 200cm?

By the way, whilst we're at it, how many good KPPs are there in the league who are 200cm?

Whether we consider taking Curnow with our 8 or 11 pick is debatable. Surely SOS would have gathered some insight into Charlie's background from Ed. He would be the best .person to discuss whether he would likely transgress again. Besides, if Charlie is convicted for refusing a breath test, I think it's an automatic suspension of lic of 2 yrs. How does he get to and from training, games etc. A risky pick IMO.

If anything, it may mean he'll have to stick to the schedule of his brother (who can give him a lift), which would be more professional than most draftees.

Except when one is playing VFL and the other AFL.

Could get interesting...

Ed: "One more lap of Princes Park before we go"
Charlie: "Bugger.. may as well as I have to wait anyway..."

Charlie may get as fit as Nick Reiwolt!

I don't think you're describing any great distinction between them. It sounds like they're both versatile talls who can play ruck or forward (and happened to play where their team needed).

Does Harry have steady hands like Casboult?

I very much doubt we would draft Collins before Mckay, whom the latter would seem to have much more upside especially when we have already drafted Weitering, really depends how it falls, but still think Burton is a huge chance at 11 or 19 if still there, fantastic mindset to succeed & huge upside if his body is fine.
I've only seen snippets of highlights of most of the top picks so not as qualified as some but for me I don't want carlton taking any risks on players that may or may not be injury concerns. Long term Burton may turn into a gun but for the position we are in we cannot afford to be selecting a player from this draft ending up lame in the future . This draft is crucial to our future let's not take risks on players fitness . Burton not for me .

Agree Ed isn't the future , but he will still probably have a role to play next year before being superseded by higher quality players going forward ...

I was actually referring to this in both contexts. Next year with Charlie in the VFL and Ed in the AFL and the possibility of the reverse the next year. Charlie will have his licence back thereafter.

I think that is harsh by Q.
Though I do agree a lot of the NAME players have gaps in their game, but that doesn't mean they won't be good players, just that development will be even more important for this draft lot.

Balic is a classy player but lacks the tank for midfield and isn't totally racking them up yet.
Gresham is a midget.
The McKays are raw, esp Ben.
Injury clouds over Weideman and Burton.
A lot of other Mid types are more HBFs right now.
Milera not a true mid yet, but ranked top 10.
The list goes on...

Like your work 1981 - seems more so this year than usual!

Lynch, Tippett, Cripps...
