Weren't you arguing against this?
This was what a lot of people were suggesting, "get more bang for our buck"

I was arguing with people who were saying we could have got him with a later pick, people who were saying it like it was a fact. But I also know that Doedee wasn't the person we hoped to get at that pick so making the decision to take Doedee at trade week when we had hoped to get someone else who went higher would be a tough decision to make.

I agree and the way Geelong are using him in their domestic violence campaign seems like a ploy to attract more memberships given what has happened with Dustin Martin. His smug smirk and continual comments about the greatness of Geelong doesn't strike me as someone respecting Walshy's legacy. Just tone it down you selfish campaigner.

Maybe do some research first instead of slagging off Danger for the sake of it. The AFLPA produced a series of videos and articles regarding domestic violence earlier this year - http://www.aflplayers.com.au/article/the-line-dangerfield-talks-real-courage/

That was Paddy's article about it and he joined Marcus Bontempelli and Shaun Burgoyne as the 'faces' of The Line campaign. It is something that he has long been passionate and strong about. Geelong aren't 'using' him. He was already the face of the AFLPA campaign.

What I did find weird was his Twitter video of him slagging Mardi's cooking. Whilst it was joking it didn't seem the right fit for someone associated with that sort of cause.

Agree on that point and that is part of the ingrained culture that pervades that most don't even think or consider. I've been guilty of saying things as well that afterwards I wanted to smack myself for saying.

looks like the Crows are at it again ..copying Port with Christmas theme ideas .. Port started that several years ago by announcing players contract extensions etc. and not to be outdone I see that AdelaideNow are using it as well with McDermott.
Well we all know that Port were the trend setters of this in Adelaide and the others are now following Ports ideas :)

Bless Port Power.

The tradtion of celebrating Christmas stated almost 1700 years ago, but they started with the "Christmas theme"

was it something like

"wow this sandwich is terrible, I should really slap myself for serving this up, I need to spend more time in the kitchen"

I go anywhere near my kitchen and my cat starts complaining that I haven't opened the pantry door so I can select something to feed her (even though I just went and put the food in her bowl). ;)

We have had a Carols event that raises money for charity for about 20 years. This was well before the 365/24/7 media cycle the paranoid AFL have created. Remember when AFL took a backseat between October to February and we barely heard anything from any AFL club in this period.

Port are not trendsetters in using Xmas as a marketing device at all. Although we do it for a good cause, not in a shameless self promotion.

Ports first Christmas thing is a 1 year extension for Boak. Hardly seems worth the effort.

Strange decision for sure, better players than Boak have retired at 30, why give an extra year to a 31 year old, 3 years ahead of time?

Because renegotiating his contract and giving him an extra year with only a slight increase in monetary value enables us to offer guys like Wines and Wingard better contracts that are back ended and therefore keep the squad together. Pretty much exactly the same thing that Hartlett did when he rejected overtures from Richmond and North to sign for less money but the security of an extra year.

It's the sort of thing that players who are driven by the pursuit of success do.

Maybe Mardi's just a shit cook and she probably knows it and it's an ongoing joke. Would be quite separated from domestic violence I would have thought.

Wonder if it was to try re-schedule his salary payments, and the extra year was the sweetener.

You're probably right, moving some of his pay for the next couple years to 2019 so they can fit in Dixon and Ryder. So probably instead of $700k, $700k, $700k he is probably now $600k, $600k, $700k, $900k.

Got it, "because of the creed".
