It begs the question, why would they even consider using the ground of a club that is in finals contention ?? Surely the obvious answer is to use Yeronga, a guaranteed neutral venue as Yeronga are not in finals contention, as well as being a ground that is run by AFLQ. Even if it is the back oval, which was seemingly good enough for the Grand final last year.

I agree with both outandabout and Thommo42. The GF should be at a mutal ground. Just play it at Yeronga. Good facilities, home of AFLQ mad not to uterlise. I guess thats what you get when you have underskilled people running competitions they dont care about. I was offered a job 10+ yrs ago after moving from melb with Aflq and they wanted to pay me $32k a yr. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys.... AFL in qld will never be a premier sport.

On another note went out & watched Kedron v Woodsmen. Not sure how Kedron didnt play a friday night home game all year, then come finals time passes an Audit?? The ground was terrible, i couldnt even see the other end it had a big shaddow across it.
Kedron were always going to win, they were to skillful & to fit. The Woodsmen ran out of puff by the 1st qtr break and from there didnt handle the wet. Kedron were just more hungry and too good.

I dont go for either side but was disappointed i had to move from my seat. I was sitting behind the goal infront of the club. The crude disrespectful comments coming from the kedron supporters was disgusting. My son is 8yrs old and i have been following Kedron as i was looking at joining him in the juniors, not a chance. Bunch of grubs, even the players were going each other. And there were a heap of other kids playing there also. Maybe it was their parents dropping the F* & C* bombs at the players. Wasnt a very inviting place to walk through crowd to get a drink.

Disappointing if this is what community football has come to. Maybe they sbould go back to Div 2.

Kedron to win GF regardless on next weekends results... unless they choke!!

I'm sorry to hear what happened. I get the yelling out but I won't accept swearing. I will bring this up with the people who run the bar. I can assure you if I would have heard it I would have done something right there and then.
I coach juniors at kedron as well mate and can assure you its a great place for your kids to play. Don't let one bad experience be your only judgement of the club.

If I ran my business like that. I would be in big trouble. Don't carry stock are you kidding me. Tell dodgy stories and expect people to cop it.
Mate i will be mad as hell if we have to play zillmere on thier ground in a gf. Especially when we were told it had to be a neutral ground.
Not zillmeres fault I must say but I will be asking for us to get the home sheds. Wonder how that will go down.
If you tell people one thing then follow through.
Unacceptable in my opinion and I'll wear the consequences as I'm sick of it all.
Not just my club but the whole bloody thing.
I'm sure I'm not alone here.
Maybe they are the only club that put in (and paid for the right) for the Grand Finals and Prelims...You çan't make a club host a final if they don't want too just to be neutral ?..I'm not sure neutrality is a big deal nobody wants it like last years prelim Sandgate and Wynnum at Collingwood Park which was a total joke 0 atmosphere and rubbish return for Collingwood Park...I would personally prefer it close to both teams and neutral but if its comes down to venues Zillmere is very good facility for night football and I doubt anybody at Zillmere even trains so I doubt there is much advantage...The bigger ground would probably help Kedron (fitter) anyway...

The thing is though, that this should not be a discussion point. Sandgate v Wynnum @ Collingwood Park as seen last year, is a much better option for a final location, rather than Zillmere v Woodsmen @ Zillmere, and potentially Zillmere v Kedron @ Zillmere in a Grand Final. This is basic stuff, which AFLQ themselves advocate, that prelims and grand finals will be played at neutral venues. As for "Zillmere putting in for the hosting rights", any coincidence that that ground is managed by AFLQ ???

Yeah mate whatever driving to Collingwood Park on Friday night for both Wynnum and Sandgate was a joke and definitely not better entitled to you opinion but both sides were livid about it...

Sure it's not the best ground going round, but how happy you think Wynnum would have been if it had have been marked down to be played at Sandgate ??? The debate is around finals being played at neutral grounds !!!

You guys can live in fairy land about your neutral venues and perfection scheduling but if no club besides Zillmere has put in and paid for the hosting rights for finals then AFLQ ain't gonna just force some club to host a final just because its neutral it is club volunteers (even at Yeronga they get the cut of the profits) that run the set up for finals in lower divisions not AFLQ they show up and do nothing...My guess is AFLQ charged too much to host a final so most clubs have just baulked at it...

So coming up with a bogus story about Zillmere being the only club to nominate to host finals, suddenly now that has become fact ???

We were happy to host the Prelim.

I've told AFLQ this.

But given I've repeatedly been told by AFLQ this year (and in previous years) that Grand Finals and Prelim Finals need to be neutral I didnt follow it up much.

I would have absolutely no issue finding multiple neutral venues fir this week's game. The great irony is that AFLQ asked a favour of me only 2 weeks ago to arrange for Jimboomba to play Sandgate at our ground, then screw us conpletely only 7 days later.

So will you be contacting AFLQ regarding this issue, asking for the game to be moved ??

Well you can have our ground and rooms.

Yep, allocation of finals venues seems to be a joke again this year. What a surprise hey?

Although what can we expect when they allow a 3 team club to consolidate into one team and drop back two divisions after being denied their application to drop back one division? The same team couldn't host Friday night games except when it got to finals and all of a sudden the lights were magically good enough to play under, but were really the same shit that everyone had to play under the previous year.

If Kedron has to play Zillmere at O'Callaghan Park in the GF then it's all just swings and roundabouts. Kedron has had it's fair rub of the green this year, no need to throw the toys out of the cot.

Woodsmen are entitled to a good old fashioned hissy-fit though, cause they have clearly been stitched up.

When does all the speculation about whether the games are going to be cancelled due to rain start? They've forecast rain all week, surely a few of those tired old chestnuts about how Queensland cancel at the first sign of rain should start filtering in to this thread again shortly?

Post of the year.

I spent all weekend watching footy, so until now I hadn't realised the folks at AFLQ had once again confirmed themselves as a haven for incompetent staff that make a local council office look efficient. What a complete cluster **** of an organisation just treating everyone like idiots, rather than the actual stakeholders who pay their wages. It's common knowledge and a mantra repeated by AFLQ employees ad nauseum that prelims and GF's have to be at neutral venues. If you do decide for some reason to ignore this rule, surely the benefit should go to the highest placed team who get first right of refusal?

Back to the footy....

What a weekend, I watched the Kedron vs Woodies game, then caught Kenmore Ressies and Seniors vs Springwood, and then enjoyed Broadbeach taking down the silvertailed Panthers.

Woodies vs Kedron was an interesting game. Once again, the older heads that aren't all that fit came out and dominated the first 1.5 quarters, but couldn't put a score on the board. I saw both Thommo 42 and Mihalpolous miss very easy set shots, and the Woodsmen small forwards gave them absolutely nothing despite it being a nice wet night for them to get plenty of ground ball. The umpiring was absolutely disgraceful, not bias to either side in any fashion - but just regularly guessing, making incorrect decisions and worst of all, having the hottest holding the ball calls I've ever seen, especially considering it was a wet night. I saw both Woodsmen and Kedron blokes penalised for a fumble!

Fitzgibbon was being well held, but went into the middle in the 2nd half and changed the game. Most of the Kedron goals were scrappers from sustained pressure, but with Fitzgibbon on the ball playing like it was a dry night, they just kept pumping it forward and eventually the wall had to burst. Woodsmen forward line was too tall, and both Moore and Forbes simply don't work hard enough and really only provide stationary targets.

Until Fitzgibbon went into the middle, the Woodsmen had been fairly dominant around stoppages, with Yorston and Powell found out a bit in tougher conditions - not prepared to put their heads over it at all, while #1 for Woodsmen and Mihalpoplous and McEvoy (where was he in the first quarter?) showed their hard edged experience. However, the Kedron half back line was setting up the game for them and their 2 wingers absolutely killed their respective opponents and when the game opened up a bit, Kedron just constantly outnumbered them at the spill of the ball and were prepared to work harder for longer.

Kedron would have to be very strong favourites now, but you get the sense that the Woodsmen weren't all that switched on and have a bit left in the tank. Perhaps the old blokes only have one last hurrah in them and don't want to waste it yet!

The key for Woodsmen or Zillmere against Kedron is making sure they put a score on the board when they have the upper hand early. The talent in those 2 teams allows them to get the upper hand, before the Kedron youth and fitness kicks in. I'd suggest they need a 4 to 5 goal lead, not just a 1 or 2 goal lead. Had the Woodsmen kicked straight early in the 2nd, they could have been out by 5 goals and it really cost them in the end. Gotta put scoreboard pressure on.

You'd have to be happy forcing Fitzgibbon out of the forwardline, as it did seem to dry up their scoring options a bit going forward - but gee he was good in the middle too!
