Thank god this thread exists.

Turned an acceptable if still a little poor 2100+ into a turd of a 1966 with the two most rookie errors I've ever made.

1. Switched Goodes and Saad when Goodes was named sub, looked at my team later and found that Goodes was still on the field. No idea how this happened, but I have no-one else to blame. 80 point penalty.

2. Initially planning to use Bartel to loophole GAJ into Fyfe. Bartel named, decide Murphy into GAJ or Fyfe. Bartel confirmed out Friday arvo, fail to realise I can go back to initial plan, Murphy flops (no great surprise). Decide to put the C on Fyfe for obvious reasons, then with literally 30 seconds to go before GC players lockout and still steaming from the Goodes thing, put C on Ablett. 75 point penalty.

Don't make those mistakes and I'm ranked just inside 15K rather than 45K. Ouch. Season over.

Yeah I know it's not terminal, but it's certainly winded my optimism. I'm like 600 points off the lead, my biggest issue is that Fyfe is my only mid premo that is doing anything at all, so if the others don't step up soon I'll be a long way behind. At least my rookie picks are looking almost spot on.

Regrets?

A few minor ones.

Having Miller (spud), Cripps (possible spud), Goodes (spud) but traded to Hunt last round, Lamb (spud) traded to Bonts last round.

Also starting with Ablett which is looking like a bad move.

Apart from that pretty happy.

Choosing N. Browns usually dependable 50 over the random number generator of a Rookie defender. Brown scores 34 with Oxley's 116 on the bench. What hurts more is Saad scored 90 when I could've (and should've) trusted him in my backline rookies. Between this and missing McIntosh's 120 last week I've missed 180 points from McIntosh and Oxley, while not using Saad's 89 or 90 point games either.

It's all well and good to get your rookie choices right in selection, it's another to put the right ones on the bloody field!

These things happen. If I didn't **** around with my back rookies round 1 and played oxley over mcintosh this week I'd comfortably within the top 1000. They're just too hard to pick this early in the year

Brown is on my bench because he will cover the eventual 0s that come my way thick and fast. 40-50 points is better than nothing, he even may appreciate and be replaced by a better rookie and make you 100K. Great scenario IMO, considering how hard the Defs were this year.

I'd be 150 points better off in both rounds if I could crystal ball my rookies. Possibly 200 in the second round.
Always a flip of the coin, easy to say these things in hindsight however.

Clarke or any forward rookie in an average team will get SFA against powerful teams.

Brown was never going to score well, and Clark scored 78 round 1 which is more than both Heeney and vandenBerg this weekend

Nathan Jones as captain vs GWS. Assumed he'd scored 82 pre-multiplier, just saw that already included C bonus. This resulted in the Nathan Theorem:

Nathan Jones was a bad C choice.
Nathans Krakouer and Freeman are not yet in the mix for selection.
Nathan Brown in the starting line-up with Oxley stranded on the bench was not the right call.

∴ I must resist all temptation to trade in Nathan Van Berlo. It would only end in tears.

I could never vent about GAJ after all of the service he has provided fantasy coaches over many years. Even the brightest stars dim at the end.
