Just on last nights discussion which I missed as I was at the Origin, I'd like to have my two cents on a PP.

IMO we've shown too much already this year to receive a PP. If we went four or less wins, we should ask and a good chance we would've received.

It is interesting to note though, that last year for the majority of the year - we were decimated by injuries. Take a fit Steven and Armo out of our lineup this year, those wins probably aren't there.

As for Melbourne, how would the AFL look if they gave a priority pick to a club the fine for 'tanking not tanking' a year or two before. IMO, the Frawley compo, was a conveniently packaged priority pick in disguise which was able to give the club what they wanted without the negative publicity. It also allowed the AFL to release a cleverly worded release which set out the rules for why clubs won't be able to receive a PP, therefore, setting a precedence. Ie, AFL said Demons didn't get a PP due to an improved percentage, St Kildas percentage has also improved, they mustn't be eligible.

I'm not usually big on the conspiracy theories, but there is little doubt in my mind that the priority pick was factored in when deciding compo for Frawley.

Webster, Savage, McKenzie, Newnes, Roberton, Goddard, Lee are likely to make that much less the case going forward though I'd suggest.
You know my policy, you can never have too many! :D

Id be very happy getting Rice.

He would probably jump ahead of Wright in the depth chart and he is every chance of pushing up the ground as that accurate kicking, outside mid/wing option that we seem to lack.

Him choosing us also signals the decline of Carlton and gives us a massive tick in terms of culture, professionalism, environment etc and goes some way to helping us talk to FA options.

If 18yo TAC players can see how good we will be,who wouldn't want to jump on board??

Odds that the Blues will be mediocre to moderate for the next decade? The supporter base and club leaders don't have the stomach to assess the list properly. They need to find 15+ good young kids. That doesn't happen in two or three years.

Lol....that is really funny!!!

Our salary Cap is full - and we are still bottom of the ladder
We don't want to offload our senior stars - to create cap space/get high draft picks
We want to bring in elite talent via Free Agency - even though our cap is full
We want as much Elite young talent as possible - but won't give up anything good to get extra picks
We don't want to become "Vulnerable" - even though we are 1 - 10 and bottom of the ladder

To be fair, they probably just don't want to be making any rumbles within the playing group so far out from the end of the season. What they say and what they do are two completely different things.

I personally like Wright a lot , think has huge upside given run without injury.
Very underrated .

St Kilda have joined Collingwood, Hawthorn, Sydney and Gold Coast in supporting the idea of trading future draft picks, according to the Herald Sun. I think that's brilliant, the club's trying to be progressive with its list management strategies.

Great! We'll be able to trade next years first pick for Treloar and still keep our first pick for this year...

Jake Kolodjadhnig rumours if leaving the cats at the end of the year is growing legs. I think I read earlier someone post that the Saints were keen on him.

We definitely need another key backman.
Doesn't strike me as a genuine KPD; 193/88 puts him more in the Dempster (191/87) to Robbo (194/88) category.

He'd need to put on a LOT of bulk and maybe even grow an inch to be a genuine KPD.

EDIT: maybe scratch that, Inside Football has him at 193/93... Got a huge wrap from Scarlett in the Geelong Addy too...

Why does he want to leave? He's only been at the place for 18 months.

That is really really confusing. They have a full cap, while others such as the Saints have 95% so will have 500k more to spend than them on FA's.

They dont want to offload their highest paid players with currency but want to attract FA's with a full cap

Want elite young talent through the draft. So they think other clubs will give up first round picks for their spuds because they wont trade out their players with currency.

SoS still thinks he holds all the cards like he did at GWS. Bones of his arse at Carlton, cant command anything.

If Carlton fans fall for this load of crap more fool them.

He is only 1 cm shorter than Alex Rance and hopefully still going. He is actually 1 cm taller than Matthew Scarlett. He will be a genuine KP player. Had a really good year in Geelongs VFL side last year and as you said, has got a massive wrap from Matty Scarlett himself.

Why does he want to leave? He's only been at the place for 18 months.

Not sure of the reason but I have heard the rumour a few times so there must be something to it. I think it was Patrick Smith this morning on SEN when talking about Dangerfield that said he looks likely to leave.

He may be looking for more opportunities with Lonergan and Taylor there, or he may just have a really good offer from another club in front of him?

Maybe part of our plan to get his brother? :p

I'd be much happier if he was 195cm+, but as you say, he may still be growing.

I went back to the draft profiles penned about him by various people and they seem to say he's good in a physical tussle, surprisingly athletic and a good intercept mark, but will kill the ball first and mark it second. The opinions differ on his kicking ability, but don't suggest he's by any measure a poor kick.

Was compared to Colin Garland at the time, which isn't a comparison I'd consider negative, and is a former state teammate of our own Jimmy Webster.

Was 6th with 87cm in the running vertical at his Combine (there were 4 tied for 2nd), so he's got a leap.

FURTHER; he has been named in the VFL Bests 5 times in 7 games so far this season, and averages:
15 possession per game (70.5%)
3.4 handball receives
6 marks (0.57 contested)
1.86 tackles
0.28 goals

Wright's problem though is that he can't kick. Easier to build a tank, train for sprints etc than it is learning how to kick.

That's not writing off Wrighty either. I just think Rice would do to him what Lonie and Sinc have done to Saunders and Minch.

Are there any KPDs not getting a game at the other clubs?
Jack Leslie.

Undersized ruck made key defender. 198cm 94kg - or 197cm 98kg, depending on your source - and aggressive, former teammate of Tim Supertatts at Gippsland. Held his own physically against Travis Cloke a few weeks ago.

When in doubt, choose a Jack.

Contracted to 2016 though.
