Don't be so quick to put the suggestion away, there's no doubt our guys would have considered all the variables when discussing trades. If we trade 5+24 for a top 10 pick and 1 later on, there's a distinct possibility we secure Mathieson anyway. This essentially means we lose our 2nd round pick for Carlisle... A win in anyone's eyes.

Yep, see above, I was reading that as what we pass for JC was both the teens pick plus our second.

I've got a feeling Rice is going to pick the Saints as his number one option. The fact that he is even considering us is a pat on the back for the club and embarrassing for the Blues considering his old man won a flag there and he's been a Blues supporter his whole life.

Might be a good cheap pick up if we do land him.

He is a very private kid , my step daughter goes to school with him and NOTHING no inside word ,
He does speak very highly of StKilda tho if that means anything .

Freo might need to trade out a little extra as knvies, but that whole thing seems to work out reasonably well. I like it. It's a pity that 3 way trades are a pain to sort out.

Really depends on GWS wanting someone specific.

GC trade is far more plausible though as them having 3 and 5 in the draft helps them ease the pain of losing Bennell, and Dixon (actually Bennell makes it likely that freos pick goes to GC) so this is the likely trade

Honestly I look at it this way

If it's 5 and 25 for matho and Carlisle, it would be seen as the same kind of result as Paddy and Goddard for 1 & 20.

So I'd be happy with it.

Really worries me the idea of losing 5, we still need high end draft picks along the lines of Billings quality.

The question is how desperate are we to get Carlisle.

We put up an offer, and let's say in the likely scenario- essendon is going to refuse everything we offer:-

A) would we let Carlisle go to PSD and potentially get drafted by someone else.
B) give in and pay a high price

It really comes down to whether we are bloody minded enough to risk not getting Carlisle. I would say, we need to be willing to walk away, if the price isn't right. It's as simple as that. If we can't do that, then we will pay overs.

We won't pay high, doesn't make sense to. We've offered the coin and the time, in essence we've offered security to the player and the player has accepted, Essendon have lost this, they deal with us, they deal with Carlton or they lose him for nothing as either of us two get him, Essendon do not retain him, they cannot retain him. Dons inflate his price to want picks 1 & 5 we walk out the door and tell them to enjoy their time with him, then watch as Carlisle nominates for either draft.

We want him, no doubt, but Essendon are dreaming if they think they'll get what they're expecting and currently asking for, it's posturing to say that you will fight for your club, but as soon as an OOC player comes to you with the ending Carlisle has (ie how he can't wait to GTFO in public, refused a contract and nominated another club) you deal, because otherwise you get nothing. You get as close as you can to parity and then you sell that outcome to the public because you fought for it and got the best you could and well, he was going to leave any way, so some view it as a win and your posturing paid off because a small section believed it.

Take out pick 24 and it's not bad. Mccarthy and pick 24 for 2 late teen picks is a massive win for freo

So my head is telling me the obvious 'fair' deal is Carlisle and 23 to St Kilda, 5 to Essendon. Then we ontrade 23 to Collingwood for Freeman. But that black hole where my heart should be is screaming differently. As Essendope fans have pointed out in their 'HARD TO DEAL WITH' rants, Dodoro may start out strong but he has a massive history of caving. Ryder. Crameri. Monfries. Carlisle is no more going into the draft than Dangerfield. We use that knowledge to nail him to the post. And then there's Collingfilth. The club who notoriously screwed us on the Ball trade. A club where the stench of arrogance can be cut with a knife.

Stick it up 'em Ameet.

Sorry but reality is we screwed ourselves with the Ball trade.

i just worry that this will be the last year we have a top 5 pick and as you said other clubs have given up less for the dons talent. i mean look at port with ryder
