The AFL has released the vets lists. we have 6 this year, freo leads with 7.

this is an extra 700k or so on top of the salary cap that we pay, compared to say St Kilda who haven't listed any which means they want to include it in their cap, so we are coughing up big bucks more than some clubs which is interesting.

Clubs are then able to pay a fixed amount per veteran – $118,380 in 2014 – outside the salary cap

$710,280 in player payments made outside the TPP limits.

Its a lot of extra cash but also mean that we can pay them out and not effect payments to other players. Will help giving Hawk his due ( thats an extra 710k) we can use for someone else as opposed to the Vets ( all 6 of them).

Every little bit helps.

In simple terms, if we pay all our peeps to the TPP limits we can throw 710k at Danger.

Happy to be corrected if my abacus is crap…

That's my understanding as well. It benefits other players a pay increase.

Helps with Patrick's salary too :)

If that's the one that was stolen from my office it will need new batteries.

yeah i believe your maths add up. my point in the OP was more in line with we ran a loss this year, and next year we are paying 3/4 of a mill more than the saints, just in player payments, so it is easy to see how a few bad days at the gate and low hospitality numbers add up to a big loss.

Do we have a list? , some of those Vets may not even be here for Danger next year. Interesting point , not 120 for each player but the total. To me this is a bit like the deal the Swans got

Sorry- I just borrowed it.
Where do the batteries fit in, exactly, ypo? I couldn't find an instruction book.

Thanks, dazbroncos , for the explanation of what the vets list means in terms of dollars. I would have had to ask ;)

When is the veterans list being abolished, which is one of the equalisation measures? I thought it was for 2015 onwards, but obviously not.
I understood that, once the club has no vets left from prior to the vets rule being changed, they must then go onto the new TPP rules. Until then, a club can stick with the Vets list rules. Once they change over to the new rules, they can't go back.

Call me a sap, but I'd like to see that money go directly to the players that have earned it.
Instead of being used to recruit a player like Dangerfield?

Hasn't this been happening for the past four years, since Ablett left?

I want to see Hawkins justly rewarded, and Motlop, but who else?

Whoever qualifies as a veteran. They will have left enough on the table over the years to allow others to be looked after. It's the least we can do for them. Being known as a club that looks after its own has its advantages.

If we really want to get Dangerfield and he really wants to come here as long as we're offering a competitive contract, we will be able to make it happen, simply by back-loading the terms.
