List Mgmt. 2016 AFL Draft

There has been some concern that our older recruits have pushed us to being the oldest list but these have been skewed by Mitchell and Petrie who will be gone in a year and who haven't even played for us yet. Importantly, we haven't neglected the draft in the past few seasons despite recruiting experienced players and so we haven't sacrificed our future for the short term. We drafted deep this year and in my opinion, we did a particularly good job of it.

While the list profile is on the old side, most of our core players are on the right side of 27. Kennedy and Priddis are the two core players closest to retiring. Replacing the former is probably our biggest medium term concern. If possible we should look at a key forward with our next first rounder.

Bang on. Exactly this.

Props due to dajesmac for being one of the few of us to keep from totally losing his shit during this draft period (full disclosure, while I wasn't all that actively posting, I too was in the SPP or end of days category). You're a zen master mate.

Didn't get Liam Ryan, but we got other explosive talent.

What a big trade/draft period. Glad we brought in a bunch of new players (and some old)

Agreed on the Caveat that Terry Venables is a lot better than SPP. Loved the picks of Rotham, Rioli and Waterman late.

And our new Disposal Overlord Frances "Elementary my Dear" Watson

We've brought in Mitchell & Vardy through trade. Venables, Rotham, Rioli and Waterman through the ND. Gorter & Petrie through the RD. Plus Bayok & Watson as Cat B's. This is the most amount of players we've brought in through a single off season for as long as I can remember. I like it!

And we didn't have to order any new Brandt licence plates

We will probably draft him with pick 30 in the national draft next year

More likely the Swans will pick him up with pick 14, get his best years, then trade him to us for a ruckman/fwd, who isn't actually good so we can pay him decent coin while he sucks the joint up. I call it the Jetta.

What did we get for Darling. Where did he go?

The King is primed for a big 2017.

Will continue to be one of our most consistent performers and with an improved midfield he'll benefit greatly.
Entering his prime, he'll show the competition why he's the most under-rated fwd in the league.

If the injury gods are on our side next year Petrie won't get a game in the AFL side, however it's just obvious he has been put on the Rookie list purely as insurance. Scotty could have complications and not come back as soon as expected, and in the past Vardy has broken down. Don't know why some are being so negative. Also as East Perth lost Johnson at the end of last year due to retirement and Giles will be playing AFL, I think East Perth will be happy to have him on board. Thirdly doesn't Petrie have coaching ambitions. He may be used at East Perth in some sort of development role in the future?

I'd rather go in with one ruck than Petrie as a second, and that would require a wretched injury run. And even if we were to have Petrie coming in, he's not a ruckman's arseh*le. 47 hitouts in 3 years (60+ games)? We'd go better by lining up with 4 midfielders and shark the opposition teams hitouts.

If he's there to be a back up forward to Kennedy and Darling, I think we're heading in the wrong direction (that is, further away from building towards a premiership). Him stepping in to cover either of those two is like substituting tofu for steak. Yeah nah.

I suggest we missed on Liam Ryan because we were knocked over in the chase for his services by every other club in the AFL wanting to draft him.;);)

Recruited some serious speed this offseason. Venables, Rotham, Rioli, Watson, Bayok are all very quick

Indeed we did but the real big time + to add to that is we also added in some seriously good foot skills.

Rotham , Rioli and Watson are all elite by foot.

Venables is a pretty good kick and good on his non preferred, bayok is as two footed as they come and a very tidy kick as well abit lacking some penetration. Skill levels and speed definately a big tick for me

For those too lazy playing at home, is there a good summary of those that have come in and off the list, including category B roomies?

For the lazy reader, here is the lazy answer.

We done good.

Good melt, would read again

Didn't mind Brown, he had some good tools to work with and had a great half a season as a lock down defender

The game's moved past lock down defenders though, as eMac can testify
Yeah feel disappointed for Brown that he never reached his potential as an AFL footballer. I remember watching his first game in an Aussie pub in Dublin in 2007. A nail biting win over the Swans and he killed it. I thought what a recruit for the defending premiers. Back to back is on here. We all know how that fell to shit as the year went on.

Alas he won't be the first or the last player to have an underwhelming career. Two knee reconstructions hurt a lot as well.

Was told the only club really interested in Liam Ryan was us.
Freo did not have that much interest all year.
All interstate clubs where worried about him adjusting to move interstate.
His beep of 10.1 really hurt him
Wce would of looked at him if Mcinnes wasn't retained.
Funny enough going to play for subi instead of us east perth was a big mistake by him.
