So he has gone from being worth 1161 points to -2 points in three years? That's not good!

The freo trade is the only trade so far. What have the hawks done other than put their best player out to pasture and sign Vickery of all people?Yeah if we are to believe that trade calculator was used at all, it would be showing us that McCarthy was worthless. And that's ignoring the fact that it falls down at the top end of the draft, when bands of players start emerging i.e. this draft class is said to have a couple standouts, followed by a pretty even 3-10 class.
Cannot believe the trades Freo and Hawthorn have pulled off this year. Just once I'd love to see our club get away with highway robbery like these clubs have.
But given the very high quality top 10-12 picks a downgrade on pick 3 to 7 isn't really that much this year, it skews from the draft pick rating system points. If you need any proof big blokes and in particular KPP's and especially KPF's hold their value and actually increase it without having to do a lot, just look at Cam McCarthy.

OFFICIAL: The @GWSGIANTS have received pick 3 from@freodockers in exchange for Cameron McCarthy and picks 7, 33 & 71
So McCarthy is taken pick 14 in the 2013 draft by GWS - our original pick before trading away to get Polec - and for improving pick 7 to pick 3 and virtually guaranteeing another gun youngster turned 200 gamer. He played 21 games in 3 seasons, well 2 that he was actual in Western Sydney.
Using the draft value index pick 14 is worth 1161 pts. The trade below shows they tried to match the DVI calculation.

GWS will probably need it to get one of their academy kids whose name escapes me. Yeah I reckon Freo got the better end of the stick but this sort of deal wouldn't have happened with a club from Victoria or SA because of the whole academy set up. GWS would have got even more for McCarthy if they didn't have the academy set up which was my main point - KPP's especially KPF'S hold and improve their value and why it's worth draft good ones and stockpiling because if they become surplus you can trade them away. But given the very high quality top 10-12 picks a downgrade on pick 3 to 7 isn't really that much this year, it skews from the draft pick rating system points.
Think Freo would be absolutely thrilled by that deal and GWS would be only fine with it.
We had pick 29 and had picks 30 and 31 as compo not sure which one was for Pearce and which one was for Chaplin. We traded away 29 for Hombsch and Neade but it then became 28 when the crows were stripped of their 1st and 2nd round picks for Tippett cheating. Compo picks 30 and 31 then became 29 and 30.Troy Chaplin for pick 30 FA compo followed by pick 29 for Jack Hombsch was some pretty great highway robbery.

Is it possible that one year we could actually organize a trade prior to trade period and go bang......
The Tom Mitchell for Pick 14 + late round draft pick swap which they've verbally agreed to. Absolute steal. The freo trade is the only trade so far. What have the hawks done other than put their best player out to pasture and sign Vickery of all people?
In hindsight we made out like thieves, but at the time Hombsch was a relative unknown suggested to be too short for his preferred position. Pick 30 for an experienced KPD is about right, even knowing it's Chaplin.Troy Chaplin for pick 30 FA compo followed by pick 29 for Jack Hombsch was some pretty great highway robbery.
GWS will end up with 3 of the 10 best players in this years draft. Just let that sink in after they made a prelim this year.
If I were GWS I'd be trading those on for future first rounders as much as possible, they'll have enough players demanding coin without more top 10 picks coming through. And they will bag a slew of first/second rounders for players like Marchbank, Steele, McCarthy and Pickett who played no or minimal part in their charge up the ladder this year. Just wonderful.
Their salary cap and the fact they play in front of 10 fans will catch up to them eventually. If I were GWS I'd be trading those on for future first rounders as much as possible, they'll have enough players demanding coin without more top 10 picks coming through.

they are also having a look at trying to get Brisbane's pick 2 and Carltons pick 5 ...
so they could have 2, 3, 5, 15 & 16 in the first round ...
in the 2nd round they could have 36 as well
A guy that dumb couldn't afford crack.Tell this reliable guy to stop smoking crack
Yeah I think you are right in terms of draft pts. But I don't think Freo would have given away 3 if they thought there was a decent KPF in the draft and GWS given up 7 if they didn't have the need for the points to get one of their academy kids via the new academy pts system and the 20% discount rule . Pick 71 has no value to GWS as they have enough top 20 picks and 33 is a similar situation given the picks they have and might get if one or two of their high rated kids move on and how little delistings they will do outside the forced ones to reduce the squad as per their concession conditions.Actually if 3 = 7, 33 and 71, doesn't that prove that McCarthy was just steaknives? It would have been 7 and McCarthy for 3 if he held his pick value, just like Boyd was 6 and Griffen.

Greater Western Sydney says it would not make sense for Essendon to use its No.1 pick to bid on Giants academy gun Will Setterfield unless they are willing to go through with drafting him at that position.
The Bombers have reportedly been planning to bid on both Setterfield and fellow Academy player Jack Bowes at No.1 to force the Giants to use multiple picks to secure the pair.
GWS football manager Wayne Campbell said the move would not make sense unless the Bombers genuinely had the players in their sights.
"If they (Essendon) have Will at one they will pick him at one, but if they have him lower than that just to force us to bid it wouldn’t make sense unless we’ve got him at No.1 ourselves and that is a work in progress," Campbell told The Daily Telegraph.
Campbell said clubs that were unhappy with the Giants' Academy system and the growing stocks available to them still had the opportunity to bid for those players.
"It’s not like you can’t get them because they are in the academy players can go anywhere. If Essendon pick Will Setterfield at one he’s not going to say he’s not coming."
What a bunch of smug arrogant campaigners GWS are

Yeah I bet they are. I dont think they have a host of academy players this year or any massive guns like the last 2 years.Interesting.... Would we look at this ??
On an unofficial Port fan Twitter this morning the guy claimed Ah Chee has officially requested a trade to us... Can anyone confirm anything like that? Do you guys want to see him leave or prefer to keep him?
