Brett Anderson has just put out his 1-25 big board/power rankings.

surprises are probably, Ainsworth a bit low at 7, English too high at 6, Ridley at 14 (i haven't read much about him), Berry a bit low at 21? i realise this is not a phantom draft but if it went that way on draft night it would be great ie. McGrath, Florent, Berry and Powell-Pepper not taking into account academy bids.

1. Hugh McCluggage
2. Jack Bowes
3. Andrew McGrath
4. Jack Scrimshaw
5. Tim Taranto
6. Tim English
7. Ben Ainsworth
8. Will Setterfield
9. Sam Petrevski-Seton
10. Will Brodie
11. Harry Perryman
12. Griffin Logue
13. Daniel Venables
14. Jordan Ridley
15. Jy Simpkin
16. Oliver Florent
17. Alex Witherden
18. Shai Bolton
19. Josh Rotham
20. Todd Marshall
21. Jarrod Berry
22. Sam Powell-Pepper
23. Will Hayward
24. Luke Ryan
25. Cedric Cox

Isn't the problem with English that he can't actually ruck that well?

just watched the view of witherden in brett andersons top 25 board....skillls definetly overrated, was big on us getting someone like him as we need better kicking skills in our side but he looks very below average

Cumming's speed and skill would be handy. Wonder if we could pinch him from GWS.

in one of his write-ups i read they mentioned how his skills are quite poor, but then somewhere else mentioned they were solid....not sure really

given gws have shaw, most likely mcgrath, zac williams, nathan wilson, deledio and buntine to cover that position (jesus that depth) they probs will overlook him even in the rookie

They apparently rate him though. And they seem to be working on the basis that they need to load up on multiple options because some are destined to leave.

In his video on the AFL website his kicking looked excellent; low, bullet passes. Maybe there's a big gap between his best and worst kicks.

Hmmm, he averaged 22.4% hit outs to advantage when playing this year for the WAFL colts. That sounds low.

This is going to be a really fun draft..

Top 3 is just about locked in but the order is not..

GC have total control of the direction of the draft.. they could take 4 of my favourite prospects and draft night may suck a bit, or they may take 4 guys I am not high on and 1 I like slips through to us and I say sucked in Suns and its a great night..
Plus, being a Cairns boy myself, I am totally pissed that my hometown is part of GC academy zone, especially with Bowes up for grabs.. His resemblance to the great Simmo Black is uncanny to me..

Then you have the academy bids and how they will shape this draft and next year's..

Then you have us with back to back picks at 21,22 which will be the perfect spot to grab a 'slider' or 2 and make us apparent 'winners' of the draft..

And considering I like a solid 15 prospects it will be a bit like Christmas regardless.. cant wait!

Same. :(

Can't say I'm a fan of him going to Saints though...

Yep, I'm getting pretty keen now. Why doesn't the AFL website have new articles every 5 minutes at this time of the year?

One thing that I find interesting though is this idea that the top 3 is locked. Here's what we know.

- Ainsworth has said that he wants to come here.
- The Lions have NOT said that they want Ainsworth. The only name I've heard the club mention is McCluggage.
- We've been told from LI that we can expect surprises. People assume this means a sneaky pick at 21/22.

What if it turns out that the Lions have Ainsworth 7th on their board? I've seen a few recently with him there. Sure, him wanting to come here makes him more valuable, but not pick 7 to pick 3. I'm going to laugh pretty hard if it goes McCluggage, McGrath, and then we take Taranto or Brodie.

And that's not even starting on the Bowes bidding conversation. I think the club should bid only if they have him at 3. Have seen so many supporters adamant we won't bid though. Maybe we will, maybe we won't.

Read an interesting article yesterday about GWS's academy zone being redrawn and them losing the traditional AFL areas of country NSW.

Going to add a few high quality names to next years open draft pool.

Read that too!
About time.

I think we made the trade with GWS knowing the player we wanted at 2 would still be there at 3. At the time all signs pointed to Ainsworth but now I'm not so sure...

Usually I rate Brett Anderson's draft analysis really highly (probably only second to Emma Quayle) but this year he seems a bit off...
Well from his article he states 'gut feel' and also that recruiters are better at hiding their intentions. It's a pretty open draft and with GC having four of the top ten it would also change things.

Maybe he's on the money and the others are off. There is a fair amount of group think among the draft watchers.

Schwab mentioned McLuggage specifically by name after talking about trading pick 2 to GWS though many people just officially figured Essendon would choose him at 1 now it looks likely that Essendon are choosing McGrath
