The rookie draft is Monday. I'd love for Goddard to get through to give us another developing ruck. If he doesn't then giving Nate Dennis a year or 2 as a professional footballer might be worth a shot.

I get the vibe that Dennis was nominated with the intent of being our rookie ruck after Archie's promotion.

Just imagine the meltdown on here if McCluggage goes 1, McGrath 2 and we decided to take someone other than Ainsworth?

Eh, I'd be ok-ish with Taranto. SPS or Brodie would be bleh but sure. Anyone else and I'd be storming the barricades. :D

A young bloke falls in and out of favour with this board based on the most recent media reports.

yep. Pretty simple if we get McCluggage we should be damn happy. Need to stop playing the victim
Amazed some one hasn't mentioned yet. I wonder what GC would do if we bid on Bowes at pick three, giving them the choice between Bowes an McCluggage.

with a huge smile on their face the GC will not match

On the links to Jack Graham, I had a look at the other recent Larke Medal winners and it's a pretty handy list. Excelling at the U18 championships looks like a serviceable predictor of AFL success.

2006 Vic Metro Tom Hawkins (Vic Metro)
2007 Western Australia Cale Morton (WA)
2008 Vic Metro Jack Watts (Vic Metro)
2009 Western Australia David Swallow (WA)
Andrew Hooper (Vic Country) /
2010 Vic Country Harley Bennell (WA)
2011 Vic Metro Stephen Coniglio (WA)
2012 Vic Metro Lachie Whitfield (Vic Country)
2013 South Australia Dom Sheed (WA)
2014 South Australia Christian Petracca (Vic Metro)
2015 Vic Country Josh Schache (Vic Country)
2016 Vic Metro Jack Graham (South Australia)

Some rumours starting to reappear that McCluggage is the Bombers man with pick 1 again as opposed to McGrath so tomorrow night will be very interesting. McCluggage or Ainsworth it is a win win situation.

Doing my head in. Normally the number 1 pick is pretty clear this close to the draft and we have a fair idea of who we will take.

Are you kidding? It's great. It's taken what's normally quite a dull affair and given it some spice. In fact the entire draft promises to be the most interesting in years.

So Jack Graham played for Vic Metro but is from South Australia?

surely we would be backing eagles in as the rookie ruck, and backing using guys like j walker, close in the position if we have major injury crisis

Also $$$. I reckon who ever has the rights to broadcast the draft will be making sure clubs won't announce anything until draft time. Of course things do leak though...

Eagles is 26. Dennis is (IIRC) 19. A project/rookie ruck is someone you look at after three years as a rookie, in general. If Eagles doesn't impact within a couple of years, he's done - he can't really be classified as a true project ruck. Dennis has plenty of time by comparison.

I think if Eagles plays half decently in the reserves it'll be a bonus. I wouldn't back him to be on our list in 2018. I'd like another ruck with a couple of seasons under his belt before Stef retires.

I think the team to the left won the tournament and the team in brackets is the team the player represented.
That makes a bit more sense.

Anderson just on SEN- 16 minutes and did not mention the lions at all, spent half the time talking about the pies and bombers.

1) gut feel for a few months that McGrath goes at number 1 although he rates McCluggage as the best player in the draft.
2) sounded very sure Simpkin goes before our pick 16.:(
3) very confident his first 5 or 6 will go that way. ie. McGrath, Taranto, McCluggage, Ainsworth, Setterfield, Petrevski-Seton.

There hasn't been much talk about us bidding on Setterfield. Is he clearly a level below McGrath, McCluggage, Ainsworth and maybe even Taranto and Bowes?

I wouldn't have Bowes in that group but I would have him clearly below the rest of that group. A lot of the journos seem to love him but for me he is not in the same category as the other guys being talked about as being in the top 6.

Dennis would have to be a rookie chance, especially since we are still thin in the ruck

The strength of this draft seems very even. There seems to be 4 tiers. Top 1-5, 6-20, 21-40 and 40 plus.

I think the picks at about 1-5, 10-15 and 30-40 seem the best value.

I like knightmares updated phantom draft

has us taking Mcluggage, Witherden, Venables, and Ridley (we also bid on Cummings but GWS match which sucks)

interestingly has Sydney taking Tom Stewart at 20

we should note clubs like sydney, geelong, adelaide who have been quite successful dont mind going against the consensus opinion and taking who they rate early

I'm not sure about Witherden and Ridley. Two half backs. I'd like Allison to start in that role. We also have a lot of defenders who can't defend that well.
