Between Pick 2 and Pick 17 only one Victorian club has a pick (Carlton #5).

Looks like the parents of top draftees will have to face the realities of the draft sooner than anticipated, rather than living in denial and believing their kids should be able to pick where they play.
North have pick 11.

Hahaha... oh, you made me laugh.

We all know that it just means the trade period in two years' time will be busier than usual.

Who thinks we'll bid on Bowes with pick 3?

Random mock draft:

Pick 1 Bombers McGrath
Pick 2 GWS McCluggage
Pick 3 Suns(Lions bid) Bowes
Pick 4 Lions Ainsworth
Pick 5 GWS(Blues bid) Setterfield
Pick 6 Blues Taranto
Pick 7 Suns Brodie
Pick 8 Freo English
Pick 9 GWS(Suns bid) Perryman
Pick 10 Suns SPS
Pick 11 Swans Logue
Pick 12 Suns Berry
Pick 13 North Scrimshaw
Pick 14 Eagles Powell-Pepper
Pick 15 Crows Villis
Pick 16 Port Marshall
Pick 17 Lions Florent
Pick 18 Port Venables
Pick 19 Dogs Rotham
Pick 20 Swans Simpkin
Pick 21 Bombers Battle
Pick 22 Lions Drew
Pick 23 Lions Bolton

Nice list, but surely a team will snatch Galluci and Witherden somewhere in the top 23?

Who goes out for them though? I also left out guys like Clarke, Scharenberg, Cox and Kerr just to name a few. It is such an even draft that all the guys in my mock selected from pick 11 onwards plus the guys we've just mentioned that I didn't select could all fall anywhere from 10-30.

Looking at it from our point of view, we get Ainsworth, Florent, Drew and Bolton. That would be a great result.

I agree, such an even draft from the top handful out. Going to be an interesting draft night thats for sure! Especially for the Lions :)

Going from your mock draft and those few that you left out, can understand why we didn't bundle those picks and try to move up (as we didn't have the currency to make it to the top end)

There's a good spread of talent, with different attributes too. Get that feeling, that a couple of really good player will come out of that 12-30 range, hopefully it's someone we select.

Yeah we are really well positioned with 4 picks in the top 22 and even more so when you factor in the fact that this draft is stacked with midfielders and our KPP's are pretty much sorted. If we can draft 4 quality young midfielders to add to Mathieson and Keays we can start to set up our future midfield.

Interesting situation:

If we do go into deficit to take Allison and/or Watson after a bid in the 3rd or 4th rounds, what happens? Remember Collingwood owns our picks in those two rounds.
  • It gets taken off our original 3rd or 4th rounder and Collingwood gets screwed (a little).
  • It gets taken off our first round pick.
  • It gets taken off our next available pick that is actually assigned to us (fifth rounder, which might not be worth any points).
  • It gets taken off our next available pick (Collingwood's fourth rounder).

I was pondering how that works as well. I assumed it would be off our next available pick but who knows.

Surely it's (a) off the picks we traded to Collingwood.

obviously the afl does not have any clauses on rules in play for these and as per usual will decide these as they go, one that will benefit victorian clubs

Was thinking the same. I'm sure the club would've clarified before approving the trade.

Personally I would think it would just come off our next available pick, considering the point values are near irrelevant at that stage of the draft

1.
Dylan Clarke should still be available in the 20's. Both Clarke and SPP have the same knock against them, poor disposal by foot.

2.

Just my opinion, but:
1. Clarke has elite handball delivery and wins the ball in the trenches. I'd much rather someone with those traits than someone with elite skill by foot that needs the ball won for him.
(By the way, Clarke by foot is not exactly poor, just not always elite)

2. In the example above, if we don't take Brodie at 3, I'll be very disappointed if we don't take Clarke with any of the next 3 picks (provided he is available). Except for club's picking for needs, I don't see him lasting to 22/23 (and maybe not to 17 ....not on my board at least [prelim. assessment stage])

(ps As per usual, my preferences will be in a state of flux until 25/11/16 puts me out of my annual pre-draft misery)

NOTE: the above commentary is relevant as at 1645 Thurs 20/10/16 ................subject to change ........ at the drop of a hat ........ at any moment in time ....... (thus remaining true to BF draft recruiter historical practice)
